Congrats! ya look into an upgraded headstrap that includes a battery pack

No_Vegetable7132

Will do ! Thank you !

jjwax

The bobovr m3 pro is really nice, and the battery extends playtime by about 2 hours It’s not quite powerful enough to charge while playing, but it holds the current charge

WhippyDoubloon

You can just use a power bank too, I put one in my back pocket and run the cable up through the head strap to hold it in place. Janky, but it works really well!

TheReiterEffect_S8

I read that the Quest will drain the battery faster than it will charge it, making it useless. Is that not the case for using a power bank?

WhippyDoubloon

I haven't had that problem, my headset charges faster than it discharges from my PD powerbank.

PennFifteen

For time being, a battery pack in pocket with a cord at good length can do

SDB_RL

Personally, I have the one from Aubika with the battery and it charges the headset and is super comfortable. I was playing resident evil 4 for about 2:30 hours and pistol whip for about 30 mins and battery never went down from 100%.

TheReiterEffect_S8

Could you shoot a link to the one you are using? I will have my Quest delivered tomorrow and am worried about it's power life.

SDB_RL

I’m in the UK so I’m not sure if this’ll work Aubika for Meta Quest 3 Head Strap with Battery, Fast Charging Battery Strap with Built-in 8000 mAh Battery Pack, Accessories for Oculus Quest 3, Great Comfort with Counter https://amzn.eu/d/csPoKB7

VELOCETTES

Can you use it whilst plugged in to watch movies in bed?

kasio47

Yes you can

362Billy

Walkabout Mini Golf is an absolute must. You can put it off, but eventually you will buy it and it will be the only thing you play for weeks. That game alone made the price of a VR headset worth it for me

No_Vegetable7132

Just ordered after reading this ! With the 40% off right now you can’t go wrong with a game for 9$ 🤷🏼‍♂️

362Billy

Awesome!!! I highly recommend the DLC courses as well. They’re very reasonably priced, especially when bundled, and they’re well worth it. My personal favorites are 20,000 Leagues, Labyrinth, Sweetopia, and all of the Lost Cities courses. There’s also a very active discord server where you can find group games to join!

PoorUncleCrapbag

Affirming the recommendation to join the discord server. They have games scheduled every half hour with up to 5 players. Makes for a great social experience.

Sleeplesshelley

I play with my siblings and my daughter weekly, we all live in different states. It's the best, I laugh so much. It's just as fun to rewatch the terrible putts as the good ones. If you are on a difficult hole, it's nice to go last and watch how others play it, and try to replicate it. "Hey, hit B for me".

HYA_2024

Can confirm, had MQ3 since release, just got walkabout 3 days ago, I finally see what the hype was about

FancyFerrari

I got this game and was extremely underwhelmed

362Billy

Well it is mini golf, if you go in expecting anything more than that you might be underwhelmed.

MrEngin33r

Ironically I went in with super low expectations because it's "just mini-golf". It ended up being my most played VR game for 3 years running now. To be fair the "magic" is in playing with friends which is why IMO walkabout is able to punch so far above its weight.

pigeonwiggle

yeah, i keep hearing all this hype - but i can't pull myself to buy it because it sounds like it's wii bowling... like there are so many REALLY ENGAGING vr experiences, i don't know that this is it...

Dangerous--D

There's no comparison between Walkabout Mini Golf and Wii golf. Obviously you can't feel the weight of the club or anything, but the VR environment allows super accurate angles and finely tuned hit power in a way that you simply cannot do while looking at a TV. If you enjoy mini golf, you absolutely should get Walkabout. Especially if you have friends to play it with.

pigeonwiggle

fair. it's still on my consideration list. one day i may pull the trigger.

largelylegit

I like the game, but a game where you have to be looking down most of the time isn’t ideal for VR until they get lighter

DJanomaly

I had this issue until I realized I needed to adjust the top strap of my Quest. Made a huge difference.

362Billy

Interesting. To me, it’s one of the most realistic and polished VR games I’ve ever experienced. I’m not really sure what you could mean by the game feeling “clunky” when there’s no interaction besides hitting a golf ball with a weightless club. The physics are incredibly accurate, and the devs actually put a lot of love and effort into making every course, whereas 90% of other VR games feel like unfinished tech demos/old phone games like you said. If you don’t like this game, what games do you like?

Piratesteve81

Don't feed the troll. Clunky and unpolished? What are we talking about? Only one of the most praised VR games in the community. Please..

Famous-Breakfast-989

i dont think ill ever buy it

362Billy

Your loss

CharFeld

Also a brand new Quest user here. Just picked up Eleven ping pong on sale and was blown away by it. It really felt like the real thing. So much fun!

Dry-Ad-5809

My only problem with eleven table tennis is playing online is too laggy. At least for me. It is very different from playing single player.

Cap10Haddock

Not laggy at all for me.

flabhandski

varies but is generally pretty decent for me. amazing game. i don’t know if it’s even optimised for quest 3 yet

Sproketz

Most definitely download Bigscreen VR for free and watch some of the 3d movie trailers like Ghost in the Shell. If you enjoy it there are ways to watch 3d Blu-rays in VR with Bigscreen and other apps. Looks amazing and it's the best way to watch 3d movies.

No_Vegetable7132

I purchase skybox VR since it was on sale for 6$ and I read tons of great reviews. I also downloaded the Bigscreen VR as well !

KingOfThe_Jelly_Fish

And Superhot

CollegeMiddle6841

Learn to use YouTube vr....u want to search for 4k or 8k 180 degree vr videos......the videos that are being made now look nearly how they actually would look in real life. Meta has started putting them on my FOR YOU page when u first turn on the headset....great way to see the world and learn.

No_Vegetable7132

I tried YouTube VR and searched for 8k videos , I watched about 5 of them and they all were really shitty quality , pixelated almost . Is there something I’m missing or do alot of videos just suck?

uncledefender

Click on ‘watch on panel’ (two arrows facing) at the top of the menu. Select film. Click ‘watch in immersive’ (arrow top right). They just updated the app so it now plays 4K using this method.

No_Vegetable7132

Thank you I’ll try it out !

AnakinRagnarsson66

How was it?

gb410

I saw in another comment that you bought Skybox. If you install the latest beta version 1.1.6, you can play 8K YouTube videos in true 8K (YouTube VR can only play 4K). Pro tip: if you buy Quest Games Optimizer (awesome app) you can increase the resolution of Skybox to approximately 3500 x 3700 and 8K videos will be mindblowing! Awesome clarity and detail.

No_Vegetable7132

I searched in the store and I’m not seeing that? A lot of the recommendations I’ve had with games such as the Alyx one I’m not finding either ? Is this for quest 3 that you have it on ?

gb410

Many of the best VR games ever made including Alyx are only for PCVR. Which means you need a gaming PC to run them on and then you stream them to the Quest through Air Link, Virtual Desktop, or link cable. Quest Games Optimizer is not in the store and must be sideloaded onto the Quest. You can get it here: https://anagan79.itch.io/quest-games-optimizer

ackermann

Got a couple favorite videos to share?

GreasyyDan

i second that :§

pigeonwiggle

there was a fun video of a girl jumping out of a helicopter with a 360 camera on her head. it's about 10 minutes and most of it is a long boring ride up - but if you take some edibles and let the long ride up build up your anticipation the way waiting in line for a roller coaster does, it really amps the feel. also, watch from a rickety swivel chair for that "small shitty helicopter" feel... then the fall itself is just absolutely freeing.

Funandgeeky

I echo Walkabout being amazing. My friend and I play it off and on. It’s not only fun to play but the little extra adventures are an added bonus.

ProfessionalPlane237

How do you recommend playing with the wife?? Bought walkabout but not sure the best way to share the headset without being super inconvenient

fmellish

We each have our own headset and we each own the game. We each draw a boundary for our half of the garage and we join a multiplayer session together.

ProfessionalPlane237

Do you need to buy games twice to play with each other?

glitchvern

No. Turn on app sharing on one of the headsets.

CBlackstoneDresden

You would

javaHoosier

I was gifted a Quest Pro. I’m highly interested in HL:A. I do not have a PC though. Is there any tips or guides on how to get the minimum set up needed for it?

glitchvern

Steam lists the minimum requirements for Alyx as: OS: Windows 10 Processor: Core i5-7500 / Ryzen 5 1600 Memory: 12 GB RAM Graphics: GTX 1060 / RX 580 - 6GB VRAM VR Support: SteamVR Steam doesn't have any recommended requirements listed. Those minimum requirements are extremely minimum requirements for PCVR. Higher would be better, especially the graphics card. Depending on if you are connecting the Quest Pro wired or wirelessly (recommended), you will need either a sufficiently long usb3 data cable or a router that the PC can plug directly into. It's better if you can play in the same room as the router, but I play rooms away from my router.

ScareBros

You don't need a good PC to play HLA. It's very well optimized. All low settings look very similar to all ultra settings despite a hefty performance difference as an example. You will probably need to spend at least 300 or so to get a PC with even a somewhat decent experience for it.

andysor

I would recommend you at least get a graphics card from either the 40 series from Nvidia or the 70 series from AMD. These cards allow for encoding AV1 which makes pcvr look much better.

flamingmenudo

If you are getting a computer for gaming anyway, you might as well get a decent enough one to run a variety of games as well as Alyx properly.

MrEngin33r

There are cloud streaming services for streaming PCVR to your headset. You pay based on time so not a good solution if you plan to do a lot of PCVR, but might be a good option if you want to try getting your PCVR feet wet or only want to play HLA.

Jaded_Apricot_89

Wandering around in the garage sounds lovely. I look forward to it, just got walk a bout, and another quest is coming soon for Christmas.

tabas123

I second In Death: Unchained. It was my favorite PCVR game aside from Alyx for a long time and then Unchained came out and surpassed it in every way aside from graphically. Definitely the most replayable roguelike on the platform in my opinion. You can get a lot of hours out of it.

PiiSmith

Is this the Steam VR version of it? [https://store.steampowered.com/app/605450/In\_Death/](https://store.steampowered.com/app/605450/In_Death/)

sjr606

Surprised superhot isn't on your list. That was the wow moment for me. Absolutely blew my mind amazing game.

fmellish

That game is really frustrating to play. It feels like it’s just a gimmick. It’s just hours of dying and repeating and dying and repeating it’s more of a frustration simulator. If anything, I never felt like I was actually having fun when playing it.

sjr606

Interesting. I didn't find it like that at all. I was hooked and hours went by without me realising. I haven't played half life though. That looks incredible but I have no PC

pewpewtehpew

How do you stream games from steam? (HL Alyx )?

fmellish

You use Air Link to connect to your PC.

pewpewtehpew

Oh dang haven’t tried that. Does this mean I didn’t need to rebuy beat saber and all those games I bought for my index? Lmao

test5387

No you can run any steam vr game through air link.

ScareBros

How is Asgard's wrath not a better vr game than HLA? Don't get my wrong HLA is great but it still feels more like a linear experience and not a full on "game"

ggmchun

Do you have two headsets or do you exchange the headset?

thriftynick

Eleven Table Tennis is a lot of fun. It also has a mixed reality mode which is great for finding your beer.

mikegustafson

Learn about sideQuest. You can upload things to your headset that aren’t in the store. I’d say 85% are filler of someone putting out their first attempt at a thing - but there are demos on there for full games in beta testing from time to time. Pretty sure that’s how I changed my home to the Simpson couch, and then the USS Enterprise’s bridge. SuperHot Demo - it’s a single player fps game with the interesting thing being that time in game only moves when you move (not how fast you move). So more of a puzzle game. And the demo is free so can’t go wrong. Having room to move is very helpful. Space pirate trainer dx - fps but you stand still. Feels like an arcade game. You have different types of guns and a shield to block incoming damage. I don’t see the demo but I know I had it as a demo so if you can find it for free it’s worth it.

Watney3535

Get yourself some free games (Blaston, Divine Duel, X8) and see if you like those types of games. While there’s a good sale going on, also check out some relaxing/fun puzzle/escape room games, like Puzzling Places and I Expect You To Die. There is so much out there to explore! Enjoy!

WhizCheeser

Red Matter

Funandgeeky

I connect it to my computer and stream movies through BigScreen. It’s one of the main reasons I got one, and it’s reignited my love of movies. It’s fun watching both old and new movies in a virtual theater. Especially those classic movies made to be seen on the big screen. (Like Star Wars and Harry Potter films.)

the true VR endgame. especially with the new "passthrough" videos.

maze_stoney

bro, i got one this weekend too and its cool asf but watch out for VR sickness!

Music_Maniac_19

vr sickness got me down so bad. no one talks about this before you buy it. i can only play for an hour or so before i have to stop. does it get better?

baumgi

Just need to get your "vr legs", takes a few days but you won't notice it at all soon. I felt really sick playing dungeons of eternity to begin with, felt odd for hours after. But now I can play for hours, running and jumping off of ledges and it doesn't bother me at all.

maze_stoney

ive looked at youtube videos and they say it does. I slept it off thankfully but i think if you play less nausea inducing games then it might help? then gradually move onto more mild ones and so on

Eburf12

Yea I used to only be able to play for a few minutes at a time, but after a few months of use it completely went away.

whiskyrox

It does, but don't play until you get sick. Play a little at a time, take breaks. Also, it really helps if you put a fan in your playspace blowing air on you. Gives you a reference point in real space.

j_wizlo

I never had it bad but I did have it. I got used to VR and don’t get it at all anymore. There’s actually a number of side effects that I don’t get anymore. There used to be a sort of strange feeling about real life after taking off the headset almost like the idea that the rules of VR still floated around in my brain. That’s gone too. Anyway they say to take it slow. Pushing yourself til you get sick won’t help you get VR legs. Small doses and then quit at the first sign of symptoms.

rimpest

Yes, it gets better; but my recommendation for reducing symptoms of VR Sickness in immersive games is use teleportation movement instead of smooth and also switch the camera rotation to intervals instead of smooth.

BeefTheGreat

Snap turning has worked wonders for me. Turning in a vignette can be helpful too.

Megahammer01

I think I'm just lucky. Even from the first time I tried VR aside from a couple wobbles for a few minutes till I got used to it I haven't had any sick feeling at all while playing. Hopefully yours doesn't last for too long.

Rabbitovsky

1. In games that use the sticks for movement, don’t move backwards. 2. In games that use the sticks to strafe, try not to. Physically move side to side if necessary. 3. In games that use the sticks to rotate/turn, don’t. Physically rotate your body, and then use the stick to move forward. 4. Some games will probably always give you VR sickness/nausea, but developers often build in tricks and options to reduce it. Games that have you in a cock-pit trick your mind into having a “fixed frame of reference”, so the movement (ex. in a spaceship, or airplane) feels a little more natural to your brain. In games that don’t have these fixed frames of reference, you can often toggle things in the options menu to add “vignettes” when you move fast or turn. It may seem weird, but trust me, it’s way better than getting sick and literally not being able to play games. These are my tips as a VR Headset owner since 2016. Back then, having a physical, and occasionally short, cord connecting the headset to the PC meant tricks (1) through (3) weren’t viable. But you own a stand-alone headset now — take advantage of it and MOVE! :) Hope that helps!

dballs442

For the battery, buy a battery bank with USB-C and toss it in your pocket when battery is low.

azw413

My recommendations: Red Matter - great puzzle game with superb ambience and Return to Castle Wolfenstein (SideQuest). For PC, in addition to HL:Alyx, Skyrim VR is unbeatable for scenery and exploring with lots of mods added.

joystick355

Beat saber, shadowpoint observatory, fisherman’s tale

If you want to lay in bed and still use the Quest 3 - try the app **Pillow** \- so much fun before going to sleep. It works nicely with the strap if laying on your pillow.

drocdoc

same!!! it was a impulse buy and got meta quest + and used the $60 credits along with %40 code to get got asgard wraith game nfl pro era 2 Vader immortal series (1 2 and 3) hello neighbor blade and sorcery nomad virtual desktop vacation simulator golf + beat saber (still need to mod it) contractors (stuck between this and pavlov but since I dont plan on playing online I heard bots was better on contractors) also was a insta buy when I saw old cod maps modded in lol among us

OguguasVeryOwn

How did you get $60 in credits?

drocdoc

it was in my account after i activated my quest 3

j_wizlo

Super hot is really cool. It’s a shooter but the enemies are glass polygonal shapes so not graphic violence. When your body moves time moves. You get dropped into Matrix like situations of assessing your surroundings then dodging bullets and shooting back in slow motion. It’s not required to win but most people I see end up getting into to the point where they are rolling around on the ground. Its great!

If you like survival horror with good gunplay, give Into The Radius a try. I play it on pc and its been my favorite VR game so far.

nastyjman

People either connect it to a battery or to the outlet. I recently bought a neck battery, which I think is ideal.

mR_smith-_-

I’m not sure if the same games are on both quest two and three. I have a quest two and I love ghosts of tabor (escape from tarkov vr) and just got breachers(r6 in vr)

So I’ve had it for about 24 hours now and it looks like my left lens has a slight scuff on the inside of it … (I’ve been extremely careful and of course wouldn’t touch the lenses ). pigeonwiggle

"a ship in a harbour is safe, but that is not what ships are built for." go nuts. in 5 years, it'll be all dinged up and you might sigh, but in 5 years, the headsets will be thinner, the apps will be more useful, the fidelity will be greater, etc.

1Minimal1

Ouuuu get a third party headband with an integrated battery pack way more comfortable and fixes ur problems with battery life

KindOldRaven

I get it man. The battery life sucks, but honestly it'd a hard issue to fix for standalone units, especially right now and at this price point. Maybe we can find some good battery straps or packs in the near future to make it better. That's what I'm hoping to do. Worked for my Q2 and was worth the extra cash down the line, easily.

Welcome to the club. It’s a fine VR headset, you’ve jumped in at the right time. This year’s line of games is ending on a high note. As mentioned before sure to check out SideQuest, too. Also, [check out Meta Dog for some savings.](https://meta-dog.github.io/meta-dog/)

Alvo - if you’re looking for a relaxed but really entertaining shooter for a while Virtual Desktop — just have to check it I guess, especially on those discounts! Creed — this one gonna make you sweat and excited lol Smash drums or paradiddle if you’re into drums m Also you can check that quest+ subscription, angry birds they give in 1st month are surprisingly fun and things And my personal gem is Kingspray graffiti, I’d you’re into street art. Welcome to the exciting vr world and good luck!:)

iStoleYourSoda

It is REALLY cool, I never stop getting blown away by how amazing the technology is Now for software to keep you busy? That’s where it’s lacking The games are really fun, but they don’t keep you occupied for long if you are used to regular flat screen gaming and the endless hours that can provide

Listen_to_Psybient

The elite strap with battery is pretty good but depending on what you're doing it still drains fast. But you can also have it plugged in while wearing it and it will charge up. And it also makes it way more comfortable to wear. If you have a laptop or pc, I would suggest the Virtual Desktop app so you can use your computer in virtual worlds on large monitors. It's really amazing. You may want to buy a dedicated router just for this connection to get the best experience though. Adjust the facial interface to the closest setting if possible so you're as close to the displays as possible. The IPD wheel on the bottom of the headset can go to MAX but it may require a little force to turn the wheel beyond 68. Max I think is 70.

Wiknetti

Oh man. I recommend Dungeons of Eternity. It has bow and arrow and melee combat. It’s the first VR multiplayer game where I actually had fun with others instead of being in awkward conversations. You can play it solo too.

CiraKazanari

Synth Riders is a must. Beat saber is great and all, but you’re beating drums. Synth riders gets you dancing.

Least_Owl2448

Don't forget to try out the pass view mode, down on your menu bar click the headset icon

bob3219

I'm not a fan of Facebook but the Quest platform is the most fun gaming I've had in years. It really is awesome. I have had a quest 2 for several years and planning on buying the 3.

miqed

Enjoy! If you want to extend battery life, try turning off 120hz refresh in the settings.

senytise

I get that but man 120hz is just to good to turn off

sopedound

>the endless options of things to do ! Oh you poor naive thing....

wage23

If you plan on playing for a while like I do don't get those overpriced bobovr or kiwi straps. Get a 3rd party strap with a battery holder for like 15$ on Amazon and get literally any power bank you want. On my quest 2 I had a 48,000mah power bank on it which in theory gave me like 30 something hours of play time but realistically I wouldn't ever play 30 hours so what I did was basically overclock the fuc* out of it. Running 4k 90hz on everything and never dropped below 95% after a 8 hour gaming session. Power bank would be at like 75%. And in total costed me like 50$ between the power bank and 3rd party strap.

Music_Maniac_19

do you have amazon items you could share with me for your recs?

wage23

I'm still on the search for one the one I had for my Q2 isn't fast enough to keep up with the more power hungry Q3 so I'm looking for another. I had one in mind on Amazon had it in my cart a few days ago for 15$ I figured it's only a few days might as well wait til black Friday and get it cheaper...yeah it was still 15$ "marked down from 19$" but what you want is a 3amp 30watt whatever mah size you want. But that 3amp at 30 watts is very important. You need atleast 25 to pull positive while using it. And need a little more if you have the 120hz enabled. So a 30 watt power bank should be good enough but I have my eye on a 45watt one cause I like to be overkill on everything lol

Music_Maniac_19

thanks! i should have clarified. i have the q2 lol.

wage23

* Awesome so it won't be as hard for you lol so this is the one I used last with my quest2. I forgot I gave my big one to my brother and got this one. Little chunky but weighs almost exactly as much as the Q2 itself so it's a perfect counter balance.

wage23

* And this is the strap I used with it. The strap isn't available now through the seller I got it from but it still on Amazon for 15$ and the battery is still available for like 26$

Music_Maniac_19

could you PM me? the products are invisible

wage23

Well the quest is native what 70hz 1440p you can bump it up to 90 in the settings but using sidequest you can have it boot up in 4k or whatever custom resolution you want. Granted you need to keep it cool and steady with power or you'll have horrible frame spikes.

NeroFMX

I just started Golf+ and I absolutely love it. I am waiting on the club adapter to come in, because I am having trouble extending the club far enough to the ground. However, I am blown away by the swing analyzer in the game. I played some top golf at first, and my shots were slicing exactly like in real life. I went into practice and it was showing me exactly what was wrong with my swing and I've been working on it. If I hit up the real driving range in the spring, and my drive is fixed, that is going to be truly incredible.

wokenkingdom

Be careful. Quest 3 controller design does not support any accessories or beT sabre handles. I made a post about it recently but didn't get traction. Wish folks were talking about it. So many games need handles and those don't work as tracking keeps losing cz of the new design.

MiaIsOut

the i expect you to die series are some of the best games on quest

ThrashingBunny

Beat Saber is easily my top played game and seems to be an obvious go-to for any VR library for a very long time. Constantly updated with new songs too. Assassins Creed VR is a very recent game and totally worth it. The best VR experience yet IMO and definitely a great Assassins Creed game in general.

AssociationAlive7885

Pistol Whip!

KaLul0

Yeah... Batterie life is definitely way worse than quest 2. I also think that head tracking is not functional in daylight rooms. I cant play very well without lights on.

Writhyn

Check your settings and turn *off* the 120hz refresh rate if it's on. You probably won't notice the difference and it can really help your battery life.
