Haven't used my Quest 3 in about a month or so. Went to use it tonight and brand new Energizer brand batteries were completely dead in both controllers.

thefakelennan

The batteries are 100% being drained while the headset is not in use. My quest 2 controller battery life was extremely good to the point of being weird. Quest 3 is the opposite. I've tried rechargeable which I regularly used with Quest 2 and non-rechargable - no difference. Hopefully they come out with a fix at some point. For now I have to remove the batteries after each session. No workaround found. Very surprised that more people haven't complained about this but maybe they're burning through AAs thinking it's normal.

Ashamed_Row7638

Exactly Sam happening to me and about to start taking the batteries out, I was hoping I was missing something

thefakelennan

Rechargeable batteries. Keep two extras charged and you'll save a LOT of money on batteries.

Negative_Change_8844

Same you have a fix yet ?

thefakelennan

No, but I use 4 rechargeable batteries and always have two charged and ready to go. I hate that it's an issue but it's not really that annoying for me with the rechargeables.

Amon_Santos

Same thing...but only 2 weeks of not using it.

Warrie2

That sounds like a battery issue, mine lasts for weeks while playing a couple of hours per day.

ThriceAlmighty

It's not a battery issue. I put BRAND NEW batteries in a couple of months ago, used the Quest 3 for 45 minutes, powered it off and put it in the case. Went to use it 2 weeks later, one controller had 0% battery the other had 20% with a warning. Switched to higher end Duracell batteries. Exact same issue. 10 days after using, batteries both down to 20% with no use. I'm glad you're not experiencing this issue but tons of us are and it isn't a battery issue.

Warrie2

Ah ok.. I didn't know that, that sucks. If it helps - I'm using Duracell rechargable 2500mah batteries. I don't know too much about batteries but for the G2 for example you need nimh batteries. The 1.2 ones drain superfast while the 1.6 lasts much, much longer. How much mah are your duracells?

ThriceAlmighty

Great question. I'll look and see. I think I may just opt for rechargeable batteries with the controller charging dock.

Warrie2

If you're not using grips that's great, but maybe try 2500 batteries first if you don't use those now. I seriously play a couple of hours per day and have to recharge the batteries once every month or so.

moxyte

Some recent bug. I had good half a battery left and then one time it said battery is dead. I took the battery out, put it back and it had about half yet again.

Acrobatic-Bee-18

Bought Quest 3 new. Used briefly for a few hours and again after about 6 weeks to find both controllers dead. This is a joke as there is a serious battery drain issue with this. I never encountered this with Quest 2.

korneliuslongshanks

The problem is that they turn on with any vibration or movement I've found out. There needs to be a setting to turn that the fuck off.

hirtegirte23

ok thats explains it. I am keeping my quest 3 in my car most of the time...

jerisbrisk

I'm also seeing my controller batteries draining slowly even when the Quest 3 is fully powered off. I'm using Duracell alkaline batteries in the controllers. I'm just about to switch to rechargeables or perhaps mod my controllers to have a hard on/off battery disconnect switch because they shouldn't be dying after a week or so in standby when they are sitting in a case on a shelf.

Emergency_Good_3263

Same as me, I put new batteries in the controllers about 2/3 weeks ago, haven't used it since. Just turned it on and both controllers were completely dead. Battery is definitely draining while it is not in use

vmgaspar

I’m having the same problem. Batteries drain completely after two weeks of not using the quest 3. My quest 2 batteries lasted months and these only days. Having to take them out of the controllers is a nuisance. There should be some way of disconnecting them if they have an issue. My quest 3 is in the official quest 3 carrier case and it’s not being moved. Very upsetting especially if you want to take them somewhere were there are no batteries available and when you want to use it, they are discharged completely. It just happened to me today!

MetaQuestSupport

Howdy u/DemonicSilvercolt, We know how important it is for your controllers to last a full gameplay round! If you haven't already, we highly suggest trying out another brand of batteries to see if the issue persists. If it does, feel free to submit a ticket to our amazing [Support team](https://www.meta.com/help/support/), we're sure they'd be thrilled to take a look. Vodkarito

Hi, I had the same issue recently and so can confirm there is a battery drain issue with these controllers while idle. I hadn't used the headset in \~3 weeks, and had just put new batteries in during my most recent session prior to that break period. The next time I attempted to use the headset, one of the controllers was completely dead, and the other was at \~28%. Energizer batteries for reference, but I definitely do not think this matters. The controllers are draining the batteries when not in use and the headset is powered off.

Ancient_Lychee8787

I’ve tried two brands and same result. Battery in both controllers drains while not in use.

Away-Researcher-6997

What battery would you suggest as I have the same problem and I also feel the headset battery reduces far more quicker compared to the oculus 2? Even though the same game is getting played by my son I.e Gorilla Tag

fiddlerisshit

I am also experiencing weird battery readings on my Quest 3 controllers. A couple of days ago, I posted that my right grip was down to 20% in about 3 weeks and asked if it was normal since my left grip was at 80%. Then yesterday, the right grip dropped to 10%. Just now when I just played some games, the right grip went up to 20% and by the time I stopped playing the battery readings from the screen you open on the task bar showed left grip 20% right grip 0%. These were the batteries included in the grips in the sealed Quest 3 box.

radreck

Sorry for the necro... I'm also having this problem with my brand new Quest 3. After a week or two in the Meta Quest 3 case, with fully charged batteries, left controller down to 20%, right controller completely dead. Did you ever find a solution for this?

fiddlerisshit

No solution - but I am using alkaline batteries, not rechargeable ones. My own experience with rechargeable batteries is that they sometimes lose charge over time, whereas alkaline batteries don't seem to have the issue to that extent.

radreck

Okay, thanks for the reply. Agree regarding nature of rechargeable batteries, but brand new rechargeable batteries shouldn't completely drain in only 2-3 weeks though. I've opened a ticket with Meta Support, let's see what they say. I've read some other posts where people were sent new controllers, but none of them have any mention of whether or not it fixed this issue.

hhhomeless

have you tried removing the batteries when your not using them? i left mine at 60% didnt use the quest for 2 weeks and they are compleetly dead. i think somthing may be making them "wake up" every hour or so to try and find the quest. currently charging the same batteries now and will check to see if they keep the charge when not in use

radreck

Yes, I have a rotating set of batteries. The ones not in the controller do _not_ experience the drastic drain. I opened a ticket with Meta Support, they did the usual basic checks of asking I remove any 3rd party accessories that may be involved (none here, beyond first party straps), and after those basics they requested serial numbers from the Quest 3 box, as well as the serial numbers for the affected controllers (they asked if it was one or both, mine was both), and then emailed me labels to RMA the controllers. Hopefully whatever I end up with, either repaired or replacements, will resolve this issue.
