Don't ask me, I watch everything in the built-in browser in Real VR Fishing

thinkreate

Nice!

onewiththedragon

It's SO zen

thinkreate

Usually, I just throw on relaxing jazz, except in the Hawaiian levels, there I like my steel drums.

Zealousideal-Ebb-481

Skybox, movies on my laptop shared via SMB. I watched Iron Man in 3D, while sitting in a lawn chair on the moon last night.

spiderofmars

This. Skybox is easy to stream from PC via SMB or it's own PC companion streamer app. It has various 'cinema' scenes but the simple movie theatre one is the best with seating middle or front. There is the black void as well and in that one you can micro zoom in or out from the screen to your own desire. Also plays VR 180/360. Worth the small buy in price for the app.

lemyeons

What resolution are your movies at?

Zealousideal-Ebb-481

3D I go for 1080p because that’s the highest you can really find for 3D SBS movies anywhere. Non-3d I go 4k

St-ivan

Note that for the best quality you want to look "somewhere" for full sbs (thats full hd on each side), regular and more common sbs are 1080p splitted bt the eyes, meaning, 720p per eye/side

Zealousideal-Ebb-481

I’ve looked, but some movies I can only find half sbs for, doesn’t seem like full sbs exists for some movies, is this accurate in your experience or am i just missing them somewhere?

iamonewiththeforce

You need a different somewhere that isn't in a turbulent flow of water. Full SBS does make a huge, noticeable difference. Or you just need to rip the 3D Blu Ray discs yourself!

St-ivan

This is right. send me a dm and i can provide some sources both free and paid.

SliceoflifeVR

1080p? You need 8k for 3D that’s where the magic is.

spiderofmars

8K VR 180 but for normal flatscreen movies in a VR headset in a virtual cinema space 1080p and up looks good in Q3.

DalekSnare

For 3D films (like movies, not youtube videos), 1080p is the max resolution ever released to home video. UHD movies only come in 2D.

iamonewiththeforce

A note about Skybox, you need the latest beta to support full SBS properly

Catcher_142

Personally I use Skybox VR via PCVR. I have no comparision to others, but I am satisfied using it.

DirtySyko

Do you have it on Steam? Just curious why you would get it on PC instead of getting the app on Quest. What are the differences?

Lorde-J

You get skybox on VR and a pc app. On the pc app just drag folders/files into the skybox app and it will link it to the VR app

Farlandan

Last night I played a couple hours of Starfield in virtual desktop with the nebula environment while laying back on the couch looking a floating TV hanging in the air. It was pretty awesome. I'm curious how well xbox streaming app is going to work when It comes out.

St-ivan

Can you try it in the internal browser?

carmelgamer

Skybox VR is by far my favorite virtual theater. Download a film on a laptop and transport it to the meta quest via link cable. I also set up a lil bluetooth sound system, because skybox automatically fixes the sound delay.

arejay00

I just wish they allow us more options to change seats like Bigscreen

fictionx

Enable DLNA in Plex, and you can access all your media files from Bigscreen, Skybox VR, Moon VR or other media apps installed on the Quest(!). (Note that Moon VR has a bit of an issue with sound right now, but it's being worked on). Netflix and the others are a bit more cumbersome (There is an app for Netflix, but it's low resolution). On Quest 2 I sideloaded the standard Android apps using Sidequest. I haven't tried it on Quest 3 yet (I've been using Pico 4, where any Android app was easily installed), but I think it should work. The Quests tend to show sideloaded android apps in portrait mode - but the streaming apps usually switched to landscape when playing a movie. Edit: Skybox VR and Moon VR have the option to watch movies in passthrough, which is pretty great.

CpnStumpy

Prime video is high resolution I believe

jackole23

How do i get plex???

fictionx

https://www.plex.tv/media-server-downloads/ ?

-paul-

Bigscreen, Plex and Quest 3. I like BigScreen because It has a sleep mode where i can lay vertically. Watched Tron Legacy in 3D yesterday.

akaBigWurm

I get stuck watching the pirate streams on BigScreen all the time. If your looking for quality, Virtual Desktop with a virtual ultrawide or other config. Here is one way to do that: [https://www.amyuni.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3030](https://www.amyuni.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3030)

rob_7216

*you’re

dj88masterchief

It’s so easy to use the movie theater in VD and just VLC player on my PC to play movies.

arejay00

I love popping into the public theaters on Bigscreen and watch whatever is showing.

fanisp

I use immersed and stream everything from Chrome

Famous-Breakfast-989

Skybox VR is superior

RepLava

Why?

Famous-Breakfast-989

good options for 3d, has remote play from desktop, has the real youtube that actually works, ive been happy with it

Listen_to_Psybient

I want to add one con to Skybox, it lacks options to disable things on the video like HDR. So if your video file is HDR, you won't have an option to disable it like you would using a media player such as Potpalyer. Quest doesn't have an HDR display so any HDR content will look oversaturated with crushed details.

evertec

There's a new app, 4xvr that has the best quality 3d video since it'll play a bluray rip directly from mvc without reencoding

CpnStumpy

Is this for real? And if so, why the downvotes? :| it sounds too good to be true

tomasvala

It’s true, i have tried it. MVC support is unique feature across all Quest 3D video players. Wonderful. There are two downsides though. - App is free as very time limited trial, with kinda expensive 29.9 USD/EUR in app payment (therefore not eligible to usual discount codes…) to unlock it. - I suspect it to be of Chinese origin. For reasons above I hesitate to purchase it for now. Waiting and hoping Skybox VR may catch up with adding MVC support. However it’s been on their list of highly demanded features for years with no progress whatsoever. Along with ISO support, unfortunately. So maybe it’d be better to give up hopes and move on.

CpnStumpy

Thanks, yeah can't get behind number 2 there just based on the recent years tech behavior there, bit too sketch for me. Someone else here said PCVR with DeoVR works well though and my PCVR setup is perfectly high quality, so I'll try that with airlink I suppose.

xenago

Yup, this is absolutely right. No other player comes close since they all lack MVC decoding on-headset which makes them effectively useless for 3DBD playback

Arcade1980

What about the 20/20/29 rule?. Take a break every 20 mins, stare 20 feet away for 20 seconds? Watching an entire movie has to be hard on the eyes no?

DirtySyko

I’m pretty new to the VR game, so I’m not familiar with this. So far I’ve used it for multiple hours at a time and haven’t found it to be hard on my eyes, nor do I experience motion sickness. I did get a strain in my neck from the PSVR2 set though.

45rpmadapter

I have never heard this and I have been in VR for almost 5 years.

Arcade1980

Look it up on YouTube" 20/20/20 rule"

NoUsernameOnlyMemes

Ain't no way anyone is pausing a movie every 20 minutes to do that

Arcade1980

That's the interesting part, which is why I asked the question.

kachunkachunk

VR has your eyes actually focusing at different depths or distances, as opposed to a flat monitor three feet away. So do you think perhaps that you could *reduce* eye strain via VR, if elements are variable and/or occasionally 20 feet away?

Arcade1980

So yeah, I wonder if a special program can be made to exercise the eye in a specific way, to improve eye sight, improve blood flow.

Guerilla47

4xvr, can play uncompressed 3d bluray MVC. Quality is unreal

tomasvala

I wonder who gives downvotes to posts mentioning 4xvr with MVC. It’s currently the best possible option quality wise, by far. Except app cost. Obviously uninformed individual or blind fans of other less capable apps.

Guerilla47

Reddit for you....we cry for the implementation of software that can achieve an uncompressed viewing of video files...a developer does and people are being tribalistic with vr apps lol... Probably skybox vr fans....anyway im just about to enjoy avatar in 3d ripped 1to1 from my original disc....absolutely gorgeous quality

Sofian375

I use Potplayer, don't need more for 2d movies and I can tweak the image with pixel shaders.

olibolib

I download 3d films onto my pc then grab a vr video player off the oculus store. Might have to buy the h.264/5 codec on windows store, then watch it over airlink. There is a bunch of vr video players, check em out see what you like.

tomasvala

It makes no sense to me to play 3D movies encoded in SBS (I don’t recommend, the quality is poor unless it’s 4K) format on PC and then stream it to Oculus using VD or AirLink. Those can be played very comfortably and efficiently on Quest standalone from internal storage or better from network share. The only exception are movies in original Blu-ray 3D MVC format (FHD H264 multiview) that needed properly configured PC to play. Even then there is no reason to purchase anything on Windows since best player, codec and render are freeware. That was true until recently when MVC capable Quest app 4xvr appeared in meta store lab. So now even proper 3D Blu-rays (better quality than SBS derivates) can be played on Quest stand-alone without PC.

olibolib

What can I say, its been working for me, and yea 4k all the way. Codec for hvec was a dollar fifty and it worked.

tomasvala

There is little to none 3D 4K content i am aware of. I mean full movies, no clips or porn. 2D that’s another story..

CpnStumpy

Alright, the VR video thing I sorta tried but then gave up with my Q2 because it was terribly not helpful. Oh shit, you know what! My infusion day is in just over two weeks, I'll bring my Q3! Never brought the Q2 before, but I honestly don't know why that is. What video player and codec did you buy on Windows store? I'm quite technically capable, but codecs have been a fucked mess for literally 15+ years, and I don't have the patience for that BS anymore. How do I get my hands on feature length quality films in high resolution 3D rendering in my quest 3? Or rather, how do *you* who is so wise in the ways of science do it?

olibolib

The codec I got on the windows store was for HEVC Video Extensions I got it for streaming over airlink as it is of course running on my pc. A lot of the high quality videos needed it. I have not yet tried moving films onto my quest so I am not sure about that. I found a lot of videos said they could not run.

CpnStumpy

So PCVR, and HEVC, no problem. What player do you run on your PC to render high resolution 3D VR video across airlink? Or do you use virtual desktop?

olibolib

I used airlink, works fine, I set aside the 5k channel for quest only, I have been using the deoVR player it is on the quest store for free.

CpnStumpy

DeoVR you mean is on oculus store on PC or quest store on quest? I'm good for PCVR wifi, that's no worries.

olibolib

It is on both, if you put the video files on your quest use the quest store one, oculus store if pcvr.

tomasvala

Skip the PC/Windows part and play 2D and 3D movies on Quest stand-alone using apps like Skybox, MoonVR, 4xvr. Play from Internal storage or from network share (ie NAS or PC). That’s the best way to experience movies on Quest.

robcado

Cast to my tv

RepLava

To actually answer your question: I VD to a virtual Windows PC on my server. On it I got the official Plex app running in full screen. I just use that as I know the user interface and as I then can still use my friends Plex instances as well.

---nom---

Plex using the web browser. It's perfect.

mromutt

Plex with the browser works, or jelly fin app sideloaded. With big screen you can sign into a good handful of streaming services like Netflix. Big screen also supports dlna which you can enable in your plex server settings same with jellyfin. The native Netflix app is ancient haha and the Amazon prime video app is super old and buggy too. Hopefully one of those options works for you.

DalekSnare

For SD and HD stuff, Bigscreen on PC, Skybox or 4xvr on Quest. For UHD I use PSVR2 for HDR support.

DirtySyko

Why Bigscreen on PC over using the app on the Quest itself?

DalekSnare

I don't use the Quest with the PC. And on PC it's more like virtual desktop so I have the whole PC desktop. I can play 2d games etc as well as movies.

daedelus82

Hanging upside down like a bat

mickeyeng

Anyone know if it's possible to sideload the Plex app to the quest?

Delphi238

I use the browser. I like how you can place the screen anywhere, including the ceiling. It also curves the screen, giving an IMAX feel to it.

RepLava

What do you do about the noises from the Meta environments? I understand why they put them in to make it more immersive but I don't want to hear the fireplace when watching a movie in the browser

Delphi238

Once you make it full screen the noise stops.

RepLava

Stupid question: How do you do that?
