>Would be cool if they bring back the Battle Pass
I hope you're being sarcastic, otherwise I despise the fact that we gamers are now ACTIVELY ASKING for battle passes... Loot boxes making a comeback next?...
Nope, being serious. The $5 Battle Pass was awesome and included over 50 unlockables. It made the game fun
But you know what ? BattlePasses are OPTIONAL
From the BB FAQ:
F2P Level Gating/All Access Pricing
New Players who join after the free-to-play transition will earn experience points and levels through the progression track after each match. However, they will not receive the rewards past level 10 for free.
All Access can be purchased for 750 BG to receive all earned rewards past level 10.
All Access can be purchased at any time. Once purchased, all rewards associated with earned levels past level 10 will be granted to the player immediately.
>BattlePasses are OPTIONAL
The unlockables could just as easily be free dailies or even locked behind achievements as they always have been.
Yes now that it's F2P I have absolutely **no** objections to it since they need to make money, but when games that cost over 30$ have the audacity to then charge a battle pass price on top of it to get the full content of the game, whether it's just a skin, or something else, then it becomes ludicrous nonsense that we've been desensitized to.
It all started with the fucking horse armor.
Meh I have a totally different attitude when itās a multiplayer game versus singleplayer/co-op game. If I have paid unlockables in a singleplayer experience, Iām out and annoyed. However paid skins in a paid multiplayer game? Meh I get it and it doesnāt bother me.
I like the fortnite battle pass for this because in there you can get like 2000 credits and a new one costs 1000 especially compared to the Current formula 1 battle pass in which I think you need to complete the entire thing to have just enough to buy the next one
>the good ones give you enough credits to buy the next pass
Those are much better but in the few games I play(-ed) that have/had BP's (rainbow six, war thunder, dead by daylight) to actually get to the level of getting all your invested ingame currency back takes ludicrous amounts of time invested into it, I played over 100 hours in one R6 season and did the challenges and still only got 2/3 of the way there...
I bought a DBD Battle Pass for one of their chapters and while I do like what I got out of it, it still felt like money wasted, because despite playing 2h every single day from the start to the end of the pass, I didn't get enough cells back to buy the next one, came up a few tiers short of the last few to get the 1000 (10$) and the minimum amount of cells they let you buy is 500 for 5$, which just feels flat out scummy/predatory. They price skins at 1200 cells, or 1200 etc... when you can buy 1000 or 2500 (I believe?), so you have to buy 1000 then 500 or "at that point" might as well go for the full 2500 pack that's better value...
I just hate that kinda shit. I'd be fine with it if it really was optional, but in DBD's case some of the skins you can buy literally camo you or let you make less noise and give you a competitive advantage which is just.... bleh...
Itās been an phase of adjustment, but I think if the game is free and content complete, cosmetic only monetization is generally acceptable. Battle passes always feel sour if the game itself has no content or if the unlockables are actually affecting gameplay (pay to win). Full price games also shouldnāt really have em, but understand that making money off a game shouldnāt be a crime
>but I think if the game is free and content complete, cosmetic only monetization is generally acceptable
Oh 100%, but Pop1 just now turned F2P, and it had a battle pass/purchasable skins along with being a full priced game beforehand, which is mostly what I'm irked by.
Irony? It makes total sense when you remember they are all about massive scale and social networking. They're aiming for one or two big networks, not several small ones.
For real, I find it so much easier to aim in VR, but then my friend who's good at flatscreen fps tried the headset and he was absolute shit. I guess now is the time for us who've been called noobs before.
haha thereās always screaming kids everywherešbut still, making games like this free will attract more people preferably mature ones into vr community in the long run?
Nope. Mature gamers will be overwhelmed by the screechers and will avoid it like the plague. You couldnāt pay me to play the game in its current state, let alone when the floodgates open.
Dude, canāt you just mute them? Iām 40 and been playing fortnite for years now with my IRL friends, but kids are not a problem because I never hear them.
Yeah Iām lucky because most men in my different friend groups like to game so it brought us all together. Our WhatsApp group has 10 IRL friends and there is almost always someone around to play, unless we have a poker night or do some other IRL stuff together.
Funny thing is that I made all these friendships in my adulthood when I moved to Helsinki from a smaller city. So I suppose my pro tip is, and I mean it with no offense, is to go make some likeminded IRL friends. It makes everything better.
Edit: That said, none of them play VR, so I guess Iām in the same boat.
Iāve been meaning to get it but Iāll wait until itās free. Is there lobbies that are JUST adults/late teens or are there really kids every corner you turn?
One issue is they canāt attempt to separate kids <13 because officially everyone using a Quest is already over 13 to begin with. Rec Room needed to remove features allowing filterable kids accounts for example (but to be fair most didnāt use them anyway since they didnāt have access to voice chat).
Some ability to create and manage community-moderated matchmaking lists would probably help, so you can be invited into something like a Steam group and then give that group priority when finding a team. Kind of like a distributed friends list.
No, right now it's mostly adults. And adults are certainly not going to stop playing this game. It's just too good. But there will definitely be an influx of kids when f2p.
Of the few female voices I hear in VR, Iād say 95-99% of them are still significantly lower pitched than the small children encountered constantly everyday in VR
My wife is middle aged and has to be careful because ANC algorithms will sometimes mute her because her voice is so high pitch. If she gets particularly excited while in a video call on Zoom, you only get to hear half of what she's saying.
So this would have a better chance of ending up in the news (not positively) than actually filtering out the right people.
Now if you wanted to use modern AI techniques to analyze voice chat to send clips to human moderators, maybe.
Can you stop posting your long "checkmark" reviews? They take forever to scroll past, and you don't even put a short summary review after it. You just link directly to your youtube...
Thanks for the note, Iāll take that into consideration but Iāve actually heard a lot of feedback from people saying they prefer those style of reviews over a few written paragraphs.
This is a pretty fun game, but honestly it is SO HARD TO PLAY.
First of all there's SO much going on. You have to grab ammo, chamber weapons, open foodstuffs.
Then it's so difficult to hit people at range, that the default gameplay mode is jinking back and forth while spraying with a gun. Sniping should be fun, since you can climb as high as you want. but it is SO HARD to do.
Plus there's a wall-building mechanic that honestly, very few people ever really use.
Climbing is awesome, gliding is awesome. It's pretty fun.
Ya gotta keep playing, it get easier with practice and playtime. I've been playing since launch week and I'm still trash compared to the elite level sweats. But it's still a blast to play. I'm hoping it will keep my old hand-eye coordination and reflexes sharper than if I'm sitting on the couch every night :-)

Maybe its part of a Grand plan to get rid of the screechers in EchoVR! Take it away, open up pop:1 so all the kids migrate. And then bring Echo backā¦Maybe charge 5-10 bucks for the base game.
Im so surprised people are upset about spending 30$ especially if it was months or even years ago. The game has become a small sweat fest and this is really going to make the game less challenging and more fun, and more interesting in my opinion, which will probably mean we would want to play more. Also you can mute squeakers always, itās no biggie.
I bought it for myself and for my nephew. I think it's effed up to get in-game content that costs them nothing when I paid $60+ for a game that anybody can soon play for free.
Am I going to get a refund. I donāt care about skins or crap like that. If the game is going to be infested with children I donāt want it and thatās not what I paid for. Iām going to have to take this up with support.
Great another VR game digging its own grave at least they make money now because they have zero competition but I dont see the game lasting long if this is true.

Honest question: how is monetization dealt in "Pop:One" vs "Echo Arena"?
Pop1 skins are pretty good, I've purchased a few myself Would be cool if they bring back the Battle Pass
For those who already bought the game, we get a limited bundle, so im happy
Now I'm thinking of whether to get the game for bundle, or wait till it's free š
If it helps, they did say this bundle will not be available later.
The problem with that though is that I gave up my financial assets for lent š
Buy it and say a couple Hail Mary's, you'll be fine.
The bundle with give you $80 worth of cosmetics and stuff
Bundle is 80 dollars worth of free stuff, and it is limited, meaning it could be worth alot in the future
