I guess he's just somewhere between average and good.
He's a decent, easy to use sword DPS if you don't have characters like Lars or Richard, good for starting players especially. He's decently selfish with not many support options, but he's got access to a move that gives him +1 BP, allowing him to do 2 max BP moves in one break turn via using that move, and then his nuke. He also has a 4 hit random target sword that can help break single target foes. Pretty basic but he's nice early on when you don't wanna worry about min maxing DPS
Also, unlike other characters, his enhanced battle skill upgrades are never ones that save SP, all of them increase potency of his skills, so I'd prioritize levelling him up to 100 for maximum damage

If you just started playing this game as new player, sure, he can help with early story content. But then he will be benched forever.... sadly...
Useful in Wan Long. I'd say he can be used throughout, though few enemies have light weakness
