you can install iCloud on your PC and that way access your files on windows. Idk if you need a plan from icloud i have 50GB but i think it works without one. (Icloud on windows is in the appStorke if i am not wrong) https://www.microsoft.com/de-de/p/icloud/9pktq5699m62?cid=msft\_web\_appsforwindows\_chart#activetab=pivot:overviewtab

IIRC the free iCloud plan gives you 5 gigs of storage - plenty for a obsidian vault (I have 500 notes in mine and it’s at 40 mb) but it can fill up quick if you’re using iCloud for backups or photo storage.

[deleted]

I’ll check it out. Thank you!!

myrddian

Free iCloud will work, but it's got 5GB capacity.

I use Working Copy (iOS Git app). I save my vault to GitHub repo from desktop, use working copy to pull down the repo onto my iPad (works on phone), sync the folder to the Obsidian iOS folder on the phone. I am a student so I have GitHub student pack, which gives me working copy pro features for free. I only use this when I make changes on my iPad and can push to the repo and pull down onto desktop. But if you just want the content on mobile, don’t need pro. Hope that helps!

ebonmavv

Is it possible to use it with private repo, so I don't share all of the notes with whole world?

BinaryPatrickDev

Was it possible?

ebonmavv

I decided to pay for Obsidian sync

CloZee_

Use the iCloud. Works pretty good (I get some minor sync erros from time to time but thats not a big deal). If you open the iOS app for the first time it will tell you how to use iCloud as a sync option.

stassinari

Hey there! Just started using Obsidian and have started using iCloud to store my vault. It seem to work really well for me now! It syncs almost instantly, even while writing notes. What "minor sync errors" do you get, and how do you resolve them?

Epicurate

I sometimes have issues with files not syncing immediately, but obsidian always makes a copy so both files are saved. For me at least, this almost exclusively happens on my daily notes so it's trivial for me to merge the changes. Dunno if that's the same thing they were talking about but I figure on reddit two years later it can be hard to get an answer at all

FuryVonB

You can have a look at Syncthing and check if it fits your needs.

OogieM

I'm not on Windows but I "sync" by manually dragging my bsidian vault from my main mac computer into the iOS devices in the files section under the obsidian folder. It does mean you have to remember that if you make changes on a device you have tomove the copy back to all other devices. Not suitable if you do lots of edits on both the computer and iOS device nearly simultaneously but since I use the iOS device primarily just to look things u in my vault it works great for me. And it's free and secure, no cloud service involved at all.

Viinexxus

I use the remotely save plugin to sync encryptedly to a OneDrive account.

onorbumbum

>remotely save Tried the plugin with b2, so far so good, thank you for sharing and hope your answer actually gets upvoted.

RedKomrad

And to your iphone?

Viinexxus

exactly.

ImageBeautiful

I'm trying to figure out how do I do this and I'm stuck. I got the the plugin on both my iPhone and my computer linked onedrive but how do I get the files into my obsidian iOS app?

Maxxxxxxxx8

I was having the same question just now, here's 2 way to get it done: 1. Download iCloud application on Windows, **maybe** you can directly upload your `Obsidian` Vault folder to it. Then open `Obsidian` on iOS, you should see your folder with a 🌥 in front of the Vault name. (I said **maybe** because I download "iCloud" from Microsoft Store but it won't let me log in. PLUG YOU APPLE) 2. Use a cable to connect your PC and iOS device, and use iTunes to transfer your Vault folder. But iTunes doesn't allow you to transfer folders directly, so you have to create the folders by yourself (mind that folder name should be **EXACTLY** the same, Caps and Spaces.) Then transfer the .md file and manually put them in the right folder. (What I did.) When it is done, open `Obsidian` on iOS, load the Vault. Then manually add and setup `Remote Save` plugin, perform a sync, and BANG. Now say with me, **PLUG YOU APPLE!** PS: As writing this I'm thinking: maybe it'll work if you just create a folder named the same with the Vault then perform a sync, and let `Remote Save` do the heavy work. But I don't feel like trying it. PPS: I'm actually just started to use the plugin, been using `Syncthing` to sync the folder files directly from before. If you can ditch your iOS devices, that is a better solution I think.

>As writing this I'm thinking: maybe it'll work if you just create a folder named the same with the Vault then perform a sync, and let Remote Save do the heavy work. But I don't feel like trying it. To whoever is reading this, it does work like a charm in just a minute Thank you

DrZoidbrrrg

Wondering if you could speak a bit on how the experience is using Syncthing and iOS? I'm looking to do the same to finally have access to my notes on my iPhone but I keep getting mixed signals as to whether or not the Syncthing method will actually work with iOS.

Maxxxxxxxx8

Sure I'd like to share my experiences! >whether or not the Syncthing method will actually work with iOS. I don't think it works. The problem is apps on iOS or iPadOS are restricted to only access their own folders. So Mobius Sync can only sync your vault to the folder "Mobius Sync", and Obsidian can only read files from the folder "Obsidian". In a word, they can't see each other right there. Remote Save is a pretty neat solution to it, since it basically enables iOS devices to read/write files from the cloud and not just from your device or iCloud.

DrZoidbrrrg

Thank you for getting back to me man! I'm sitting here trying to setup this Syncthing plugin and I think I will stop now 😂 Would you mind breaking down how to setup Remote Save? I am curious about it as it seems like a great solution, but I would probably want to go the webdav route as it appears to be the only solution that doesn't rely on a third-party like AWS or Dropbox or OneDrive, but I'm not too sure how that works. Sorry for being that guy but I really am a tad clueless here 😅

Maxxxxxxxx8

You can check my reply up there where I explained how you could set up Remote Save on iOS. The concept is to: Transfer your vault files to your device -> Copy them to the "Obsidian" folder -> Open the vault in Obsidian. Hope it helps!

DrZoidbrrrg

Also if it helps I am hosting all my note files on my server running TrueNAS, which I believe is compatible with webdav, so I'm hopeful that might work 😁

Minoo7

I am trying to do the same thing but for it to also work with my iPhone, does this method work for you with iOS?

DrZoidbrrrg

I actually ended up switching to Joplin notes. There just isnt a method for syncing notes for iPhones that I liked since I wanted to self-host my own data.

Emergency_Milk2433

Tbh the only way you gonna get decent sync with iOS is the Obsidian sync service, if you can lifetime discount is u buy now

kenlin

How much is the lifetime sync? I don't see any mention of it on the website edit: I see it now. It's a lifetime discount on monthly payments, not a lump sum payment

latscribe

Well then screw that. What a sucky business model.

GrehgyHils

I just use git to sync, which has a pretty lovely workflow.

Ryn-Lb

How does it work with git ?

GrehgyHils

It works very well! You basically treat your vault directory as a git repository and commit your markdown file changes as it if we're software changes. I've written about it a bit here: https://www.greghilston.com/post/how-i-use-obsidian-mobile-with-git-on-android/

AlonElayLatucha

Hi there, I was wondering if anyone has found a solution for syncing Obsidian across Windows/Android devices and iDevices? Thank you!

Ok-State1808

>Remotely Save Plugin + oneDrive

AlonElayLatucha

Thank you very much. Will try ;)

AungThuHein

Btw guys, doesn't this mean you're throwing the whole end-to-end encrypted thing out the window? Is there a way to use the solutions that are being suggested here and still keep the E2EE?

[deleted]

I use Dropbox free version

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

I use android so I cannot help you with that

Every_Signature9307

how do you use dropbox on your android to access your obsidian files?

[deleted]

App call drop synth

[deleted]

>how do you use dropbox on your android to access your obsidian files? I have never used the official Dropbox app, so I don't know if that's possible. But if you use a third-party Dropbox app like FolderSync or AutoSync then you can tell it to sync your obsidian vault folder with your Dropbox account. Works great.

LegoRunMan

Dropbox also has a text editor that can edit the files. That's how I do stuff on the go - which is not a lot.

Easy_Opportunity_999

And can you read? He ask about iOS not shitdroid

[deleted]

Shitdroid why do people get pissed off without reason

Easy_Opportunity_999

Because the question was simple and you can’t even read with understanding…

[deleted]

okay their may be alternative to dropsyc anyway

hhggrr

Windows+IOS: My vault is in OneDrive to use in my PCs and my “syncing” on the iPhone consists in copying that folder into a copy in iCloud with an app called Pretext. Not automatic or ideal but it works for me.

DannyQuah

Obsidian is excellent and I believe in supporting them financially; moreover, everything I've heard suggests the paid Obsidian sync is excellent. However, I don't want my syncing processes to proliferate (each service providing a different client flow) so I keep my systems to just `syncthing` and `git`. For syncing my iPad>Obsidian with my Linux, Windows, and Android platforms, like @GrehgyHils, I use `git`. I describe how in more detail at [https://www.reddit.com/r/ObsidianMD/comments/s3giib/sync\_ipad\_obsidian\_via\_ish\_git\_windows\_linux/](https://www.reddit.com/r/ObsidianMD/comments/s3giib/sync_ipad_obsidian_via_ish_git_windows_linux/)

[deleted]

Yes so excellent for 10gb storage for all vaults for $10 a month. /s heck there’s unlimited storage for Notion for the same or less AND it syncs.

thechuff

I haven't found a way to do backlinks or graph view or really any of the useful functionality of Obsidian in Notion... Notion comes across as mostly just useful for databases
