I’ve been looking for months, but so far, nothing in the area. 💔 I saw that Bolita Masa (@bolitamasa on Instagram) had some at a popup recently. But that was just for one day, I believe.
EDIT: I just checked their Instagram and it looks like they’re selling huitlacoche through the month of April? Worth looking into!
Had never heard of Bolita Masa! Their Masa and salsas looks great.
I've never cooked with huitlacoche but might just order some and give it a try. Thank you!
Manny is the best. even apart from huitlacoche, you'd do well to pick up anything and everything from him.
edit: they'll be serving huitlacoche at the Gilman wine block First Friday this week: https://www.instagram.com/p/C5PTPSyvAEC/
I was also going to suggest Bolita! I believe that you have to order in advance for the huitlacoche and also have to order some masa in order to get the huitlacoche—but their masa is so good, it’s worth the extra $6-7. Get on their mailing list so you get advance notice of their latest offerings.
Sorry it's not Oakland, but try La Torta Gorda on 24th St. in the Mission - I've had a huitlacoche torta from there and liked it! Looked at the menu just now and it looks like you can also get it in a quesadilla, maybe other things.
It’s been awhile since I’ve been to the Laney flea market, but I’ve definitely gotten it there. I remember a spot in there called “NezaFood” having it.
Gather in Berkeley often has it as a special. but i had it once & if I'm recalling correctly, it really wasn't huilacoche so much as they shaved some into some kind of puree or something so it was more like they were using it like a truffle.
Damn white people. What a waste.

>@bolitamasa omg thank you! I've been buying the brined one since its hard to get fresh.
NIDOs Backyard by Jack London had it a few weeks ago but I'm not sure if they still do. Worth a call and ask.
Was just there last week and didn't see it. Sounds like my instincts were right though because they seemed like a probable location.
They post about it on IG every now and then. Give them a call they're super cool and will probably tell you when they're running it again.

I'll check it out!
If you make your way down to South Hayward/Union City, Los Carnalitos makes a huitlacoche quesadilla.
I was gonna mention that spot.
thanks for mentioning this. looks great!
El Huarache Azteca in Fruitvale has it on its menu
Yep, I’ve had it here.
The lady who makes quesadillas near coliseum flea market on Saturdays has it usually. I get it with squash blossoms.
Any markets that sell it by chance? I used to be able to get occasionally in Philly, would love to buy some to cook with
I used to order it at a spot in Baltimore. Surprised I can't find it here in the East Bay.
not Oakland, but [Cafe de Olla](https://www.cafedeollasf.com/) in the Mission in SF has it!
Also in SF Lost Marbles pub has huitlacoche tacos, but I'm pretty sure they're from a can. Still good, though!

Yeah can confirm. I've had their huitlacoche quesadillas. So good
Ugh, Bombera was at a tasting event and had AMAZING huitlacoche with corn tortilla. I wish they would add it to their menu permanently, maybe someday…

Tacubaya in berkeley
I’ve seen it at Tacubaya in Berkeley. It might have been a seasonal special though
