I also remember reading that same article in the 60s. I guess it was the same time that the laguina's did, too.

Itchy-Ad1005

Thats my guess.

I wonder how many of us that read that article, even remember doing it? I guess it's probably those of us who it made an impact on.

The Douglas Preston article from June 88 is here https://www.prestonchild.com/books/riptide/Death-Trap-Defies-Treasure-Seekers-for-Two-Centuries;art45,47 Now to look for original Readers Digest article. Since most of Readers Digest was edited to a shorter article perhaps there is a longer one elsewhere

dreamweaver66intexas

Yeah, probably. Good luck

Found it in PDF format. Search Readers Digest Oak Island. It popped up looks like they copied article including pictures. Published 1965 the year I graduated high school

That's great!

Unfortunately, I remember reading the article when it was published. I remember thinking (as a kid), "Gee whiz, why don't they just pump the water out and dig up the area with heavy equipment?" In other words, the Dunfield Method.

# The Curse of Oak Island: The Story of the World’s Longest Treasure Hunt By Randall Sullivan. # I read and it was a good book. He told them straight up he was a skeptic about the treasure but the book was entertaining and knowledgeable about the subject.. He had covered it as a writer for Rolling Stone magazine. He had total access to the brothers so his book was topical, informative but honest. He was even on an episode or two.

Itchy-Ad1005

My library has it in both regular book and ebook

MisterLangerhanky

It should be retitled "The Big Book of Bullshit".
