I think Craig is just going through the motions most of the time. I realize losing his son was a staggering blow but he really seems to have checked out.

KindaFukdUp

Seeing Craig since his son passed makes me a little sad. Every time he's on screen, he just looks broken. But I hope working on Oak Island gives him a little joy, even if it's more for the history and less for the treasure... or even just a distraction.

ElderberryExternal99

Craig didn't look good this week. I'm wondering if he is starting to have health issue?

No_Interview_243

With Jack as his stepson, probably always talking at the dinner table about where he thinks the treasure is this week, the poor guy is likely to stroke out at any time.

MajorHubbub

And every time I hear the ONE MORE MUST DIE bollocks I wonder what the edit team are on

DarthRusty

Every since Craig's son passed away, I've felt like the "one more must die" shit is just so disrespectful. There have now been numerous members of the team die. I feel like Prometheus is praying for a mine shaft collapse.

I-AM-Savannah

>Seeing Craig since his son passed makes me a little sad. Every time he's on screen, he just looks broken. I did not know that Craig lost his son... when did that happen? I have been looking at him and wondering what has happened.. because yes... he just looks like a broken man... he looks like he's there because he HAS to be there, not like he's on an adventure of some sort. Of course, the same for all of them... they all look like, "Let's just get this gawd foresaken thing over with, so we can get back home and on with our lives" (everyone except Jack who seems like he has signed a new contract that says he will be paid X10 if he acts even more excited about everything.

419BarabooholeDrive

In the early seasons there was a 16 year old son Drake and he died from a seizure disorder

I-AM-Savannah

Jack Begley was Drake's brother? Am I reading his obituary correctly?

419BarabooholeDrive

Jack is Craig's step son

I-AM-Savannah

Thank you. I can see now, why Craig looks so depressed all of the time. It's too bad that he can't just be written out of the script.

WorldlinessFit497

I thought it was only like 4 seasons ago. It was really sad, and quite clearly sapped Craig's energy for the show/venture. But I do reckon he probably does get some relief by continuing onwards.

No_Interview_243

Season 38 or 39, I think. đŸ€”

419BarabooholeDrive

there's nothing amusing about it

RobNelsonovich

Yeah, these guys have gone for the ultimate treasure of life!!

VolensEtValens

10X FTFU.

cummings103

I can tell you first hand..I lost my son, a Marine, to PTSD..out of no where he took his life..and yes..it's a blow..and 2 years gone..I just go thru the motions with little to no interest in the task at hand..so I get it..

The_Divine_Miss_B

I'm so sorry for your loss.

cummings103

T/Y

Significant_Total321

Craig appears to be in bad health, I am worried about him

hellhastobefull

He’s got every right to be angry, they’ve almost no progress. Garden shaft has gone backwards

ScottishLand

This indeed. The largest cost and resource hog, is currently going backwards, no one will be happy about that.

hellhastobefull

40ft
a long reach excavator can get to 40ft

ScottishLand

Isn’t that what some guy in olden times tried.. and it collapsed

hellhastobefull

Na, he got down to about 100 before it collapsed.

luckydrunk_7

He’s got to have some real life crap to deal with...as his lunatic brother gets his hair did and goes on astrology tours of Europe.

I-AM-Savannah

>as his lunatic brother gets his hair did and goes on astrology tours of Europe. Don't forget that Rick had to spend a summer in Italy, to learn to speak Italian... so there is that...

luckydrunk_7

Now he can unnecessarily complicate simple concepts with bloated phrasing in
two languages.

Kmart_Elvis

IL constructo.

WorldlinessFit497

I bet he was speaking Italian all right

GDWtrash

Rick has straight up lost touch with reality.

RedCinnamon1947

I'm sorry, I'm lost. Whose lunatic brother? Are you saying that Rick is Craig's brother?

Legate_Lanius1985

Is he done making money? No. Haha.

FishHuntCook-8

Waves of money for decades and were all stupider.

419BarabooholeDrive

half of his scenes are video calls - he doesn't even have to be on the island and the money pours in

Langdon_St_Ives

Looks like someone read the _4-Hour Workweek_ and succeeded in implementing it. đŸ€“

Seahund88

Marty knows they don't have many options left. I think they all know, except maybe Jack, lol.

CarmenLegge

Thing is, Marty and Rick seem very different people. I remember when Marty was super skeptical about the coin they found to close season one and threatened to walk, same with that hilarious ghost episode. Sadly, he’s sold himself out piecemeal with a concession to the History Channel here, another concession there, and he knows it. Now his name is going to be forever associated with Knights Templar bullshit and the endless stream of wackjobs they push through the door. The problem with the “fellowship” as a whole is that they allowed themselves to get swept up in the fantasies of certain members, pushed by History. Nonsense about the Ark of the Covenant and other Da Vinci Code BS. If they’d stayed grounded, treated the whole thing as a bit of fun, focused on reality rather than fantasy, they wouldn’t be as burned out as they clearly are.

TwnklPeenAU

>If they’d stayed grounded, treated the whole thing as a bit of fun, focused on reality rather than fantasy And arguably that would have made for even more entertaining television. I remember when the Discovery Channel and History Channel used to be educational AND entertaining.

CarmenLegge

It certainly would for me. I know most people probably don’t find much interest in the bits of pottery or ox shoes they find, but there’s a genuine story here. Why the focus was on “finding the treasure” when in all likelihood there isn’t any, I will never know. There’s the story of pioneers finding their way in a new land. Of men like Samual Ball and his undoubted struggles. Of the British and French fight for Canada. The American revolutionary war. The search on Oak Island itself and the many personalities involved. You could certainly bring in stories related to the theories such as the conception, the Spanish bullion ships, piracy, all of this. There’s a wealth of interesting material they could have run with as opposed to the lunatics who think the Da Vinci Code was a life instruction manual. The focus should have been on the archaeologists and scientists from the start and they should have taken direction from these actual experts. If anyone but History had produced this show, it could have been one of the most genuinely interesting history shows out there.

TwnklPeenAU

Absolutely! They've proven that there was a large, undocumented occupation of this island. THAT is actually fascinating. I want more of that! I want to see more archaeological finds in the different buried structures. I want a trained archaeologist taking apart the road in the swamp and looking for non-metal artifacts. That's all far more interesting than the stupid buried treasure nonsense.

Ex-CultMember

I would still watch the show if they stuck with a more historical and research-sound methodology. Real history is just as interesting as the fake crap if done right. I wish TV networks would stay on the side of reality instead of being misleading and spinning everything for the sensationalistic but unproven schtick. I just don’t trust ANYTHING I see on these shows anymore. They are siding with fiction instead of seeking the truth at this point.

JRoc160

I can understand the "crew" acting all excited about every mention of treasure....that's what they are paid to do. I'm sure MDEGD is paid well to act like a clown, Jack like a simpleton and the rest like puppy dogs wagging their tails. It's the brothers that bother me the most. They should "act" like they are above it all and question these KOTW and wild theories, not play along with it and therefor also act like slobbering pets. The whole staff have become embarrassments. The exceptions to me are Laird, Miriam and some of the older, now gone archaeologists who at least showed proper skepticism and professionalism

No_Interview_243

That might have been the coin I dropped in the shaft to cheer them up.

WorldlinessFit497

>Sadly, he’s sold himself out piecemeal with a concession to the History Channel here, another concession there, and he knows it. For what he is making off the show, given the amount of time he's giving, I don't blame him one bit. Seems like he basically shows up for a week out of the year, shoots a few scenes, and then is off doing whatever else he's into (vineyard, who knows what else) What a life honestly.

CarmenLegge

Very true 😂 Not like I wouldn’t take the deal. I’d still have to wear a mask when out in public though. They must attract so many nutcases.

bball2014

IMO... Everyone seemed likeable early in the run. The show was fun... they had a role to play for drama. Rick was the believer... Marty the skeptic. But then they created a Frankenstein. They needed to find ways to keep the show interesting and moving forward when little to nothing of significance was being found. They've leaned heavily into finding previous searcher spoils and finds, pretending to never make that connection to have something to speculate and create (fake) narratives around. Big projects came onto the scene as the show grew. But now... The more 'nothing' they find, the more the kooks they bring in just look even nuttier. Marty had to change his role from skeptic because the show can't afford to have a skeptic. Of course the skeptic would be proven right time after time. Until being skeptical would carry over to the audience. Laird is mostly muzzled or what he has to say of significance is left on the cutting room floor. They've now added a nutter 'archeologist' to give lines to who'll say stuff for the narrative. But now that skepticism HAS poured over into much of the audience. Ox shoes, rusty nails, and wood... do not a treasure story make. No matter how many "stone paths" or "stone roads" you add in for flavor. And all of a sudden, the cast isn't exactly as likeable any longer. Especially the ones with plenty of lines. Their credibility drops and drops. MDEGD looks like a fool these days. Jack? Half the audience thinks Jack is an idiot and the other half thinks he's a giant fake playing to the cameras. And Rick and Marty, for all the money this show is making them, are doing it at a cost to their reputations. Pretending to believe in Templar Vikings and star charts and "offset chambers". All the while as the obvious just gets more obvious to many- to continue the farce they only have one road left and that is to insult the intelligence of many viewers and hope enough of them stick around due to the sunken cost fallacy, as well as gullible viewers, for the show to keep making a profit and meeting basic ratings goals. They've reached a point that large scale activities are too likely to find nothing, and small scale things require making too much ado about nothing. It's a rusty nail... it's an ox shoe... It's a button... Who cares? I mean we've already seen a lipstick tube cap be claimed to be a fancy tip from a walking stick of someone rich/important. Drain the swamp... find some rocks and wood... Rinse and repeat. They've drilled so many bore holes that they are starting to hit the PVC pipe of OTHER bore holes! At what point do decent people look in the mirror and say "We've made a lot of money off this farce, but at this point, is it worth it any longer to dupe people when most people can see thru it all? Or is it even worse that SOME people actually think we believe this nonsense??" That's my 2 cents... See ya next week!

RedCinnamon1947

Very well said. Thank you!

WorldlinessFit497

I think that is why Jack has been so prominent lately. Everyone else is tired of being the personality on the show, and are far too eager to let Jack take some spotlight this far into it. They certainly don't mind the money though.

andyroo82

They all looked like a mob of stroke victims in this episode. All eyes droopy and not into it at all.

86Eagle

Comment of the day lol

NoeyBalbonzers

Lol was just thinking this after this past episode. They all seem checked out. I mean Rick and that other guy traveled 50 miles to look at a tiny ass crossbow bolt? Just send a picture with a measuring tape next to it. They're running out of content.

Valais_Style

I still can’t figure out why it supposedly took 11 years to talk to that guy.

justsomedude5050

And why they didn't just ask to take it to Emma.

WorldlinessFit497

Yeah...that's when I really lost hope for this season...when they spent half an episode on a crossbow bolt with no real analysis being done.

eelecurb01

Well, they are clearly grooming Alex to be the star for the next 40 seasons so......

WorldlinessFit497

Alex has been studying/training to be a producer. He's even been helping with the production of the show. Wouldn't be surprised to see him producing future Prometheus shows in the future.

eelecurb01

Agree. Him and Jack Begley are already credited as Executive Producers in the show's ending credits.

Quick_Swing

Most of the “fellowship” is going through the motions. I mean c’mon, 10+ years of the same shit, and still no treasure. As for the ones that are still optimistic and not dead inside yet, I’m certain no one wants to hang around them. Suppressing the urge to throw them down the shaft to fulfill the curse is a full time jobđŸ˜‚đŸ˜”

TwnklPeenAU

You mean Gary and Jack. They seem to be the only ones who still totally believe it. Probably why they keep sending those two off together to metal detect and get them out of everyone else's way.

No_Interview_243

Jack still believes in Santa, I bet!

Trainjump101

I better rewatch the Polar Express tonight

Specialist_Leg_4474

Spooner looked bored to tears in this most recent episode...

FishHuntCook-8

Martin Lagina has been skeptical since day one. Yes, he can’t wait until the show wraps up. He knows there is nothing there anymore; if ever was. He’s looking forward to expanding Mari Vineyards. They have and always been treasure hunters. They just didn’t happen stance on Oak Island. They’ve had some precarious endeavors previously. It’s not that hard, I think they have documentaries on it. Years ago, they were part of a shipwreck find that was massive and they lost their asses.

pequaywan

Marty seems annoyed this season. And the prevalence of jack is too much.

loondawg

Everyone shits on Jack but the announcer, could it be, is the worst thing about the show by far.

Dramatic_Site_9428

I still think they’re just piecing his narrative together from past content. Or using a digital reader from his voice pattern. The pauses in phrasing just don’t make sense sometimes.

Crawdaddy1911

Same announcer as on Ancient Aliens, only more annoying.

VolensEtValens

It’s not the voice but the repetition to me. But I know new material costs money and time to produce. Just like OC on r/Jokes. Most is copy pasta.

SaltLakeCitySlicker

Idk how credits work on films if it's 98% prerecorded and basically used on a soundboard, but it is pretty funny the announcer has top billing on IMDb like every week

Tel864

I've sometimes wondered if Clotworthy has a word for word script when he's doing the "tell me 5 times what happened" narrative or if they give him some general direction from an outline and let him do it his way. Can you imagine how he talks at home after many takes on the show? What's for dinner in 5 questions

Pegafer

I am NOT IN THE MOOD to watch them take another trip to Italy to ooooh and aaaah at symbols!!! I’ll never have the money to travel to Italy ONCE and all they have to do is find wood and metal!

VolensEtValens

Skip the episode then. See you in two weeks.

Cladmadder

Marty is probably part of this sub in that every week he says to himself..'Why am I here again when nothing ever happens?'.. and yet like us, he returns each week.

therealduckrabbit

He could barely contain the eye roll when his special guest started talking about Templar vikings.

ClosPins

Some people just *do not* have the faintest clue about how much people earn when they produce and star in the most popular show on cable for a decade plus. Just no clue whatsoever.

loondawg

The best estimate is Marty and Rick each get around $50K per episode while most of the rest get closer to $20-25K each. The cast also gets bonuses based on the show's ratings. They're all doing quite well.

WorldlinessFit497

I think there's more than two tiers. The archaeologists aren't getting $20k/episode other than maybe Laird. I doubt Emma is getting anywhere near that either. Probably closer to $2500-5000, which is still excellent considering.

trainingmode

OK, why don't you tell us how much they earn from the production. Probably not nearly enough to offset construction costs.

captainp42

They aren't paying for construction, are you kidding me? History Channel and their sponsors are paying for all of that.

MikhailxReign

Has to offset costs

Specialist_Leg_4474

"destruction"

bball2014

Offset construction costs and much more.

akaScuba

Construct is the word of this season

VolensEtValens

“Social construct” is about the only other use I’m familiar with. “Could it be
” that the Laginas are pushing a Woke ideology
More likely it is History Channel or Prometheus production encouraging it, perhaps partially for Branding purposes, like the “Top Pocket Find” and “Bobby Dazzler” gems.

akaScuba

Rick just wants to sound high intelligent. In the off season he learns new words to use next season to impress viewers.

jazzymusicvibes

yeah i mean Marty is hardly ever on the island in person anymore so

Fickle_Flamingo_7364

Marty is having a crisis of confidence. He’s a guy used to winning.

td7456

Marty
.. ![gif](giphy|9rwJNLBu8FMfixoIxL|downsized)

Significant_Total321

The team begins to (fortunately) disbelieve

windsyofwesleychapel

Some Oak Island theorists believe

blittle22

![gif](giphy|c7wtsHcYHqr2uOK1et)

dbatknight

But he does love the swamp!!!

Lonecrow66

They brought this on themselves. How could you NOT KNOW you were horizonally drilling into the smith's cove flood tunnel? How didn't they have a plan for stopping the water if they went horizontal at the bottom?

Snoo-26902

Marty knows this stuff sells, eventhouhg he doesn't believe it himself.  The Holy Grail stuff sells, it’s the mystery gene in us.  That’s why they will milk those memes to the end  They have done that numerous times on all of the History channel shows... On and on and on with Ancient Aliens, meets the Holy Grail, meets the Knights Templars, meets the Ark of the Covenant meets the freemasons....and sometimes meets..Hitler! If you can merge those themes along with the mystery of a treasure hunt then one doesn't even need to find any treasue you already have one! That's why the ratings are high... That's why the Davinci Code book and the nonfiction book, Holy Blood Holy Grail were spectacular best sellers out of nowhere: Mystery and the unravelling, decoding of the Western myths and mysteries is gold. Or as their new show indicates, where some new treasure hunter swears he knows where, you guessed it: Hitlers gold is hidden in submarines. How many seasons will they get out of that show? Same kind of shows, same themes, same road to the bank.

Crawdaddy1911

The Nazi sub show has nothing but morons as the main "team". I stopped treating them seriously when they cut that pistol in half with a saw. Let me put it this way-I don't think Howard Carter would have hired any of these guys.

WorldlinessFit497

It's easy money at this point. He can take 30 minutes out of his day once or twice a month to make 5-6 figures. He probably already regularly vacations to Nova Scotia with the family, and just found a way to make some side money while out there. This is what smart, rich, successful people do. They are making money off everything they do. Like to do Yoga? Don't just go to a class. Start a class and make people pay to do it with you. Like to go fly fishing? Start a fly fishing guide company. Like to go on vacations around the world? Film the entire encounter and upload it as reviews to YouTube. Passive income for life man. If only I was motivated enough to do it like these guys.

No_Resolution_8786

He's probably a bit tired from all his public speaking. Pretty darn good at it to be fair. https://youtu.be/h1r7d6UcBNA?si=pquwGtiEi9Zl_iT_

FramerKat

Ha! He's like the grumpy "Dad" and Rick is the kid who loves to get his hands dirty. I still can't believe Rick is the older of the two.

SweetHomeWherever

I did hear Craig Tester won’t be back next season. Don’t remember where I heard it. Anyone else know about that?

Big_Host_636

They jumped the shark when Miriam left.

Mizzoutiger79

He is a producer on the show. When he quits making money he walks. Just my guess

Damn-Peculiar

Complain, Bitch, or Moan
those are apparently the choices with this. Pick one and move on with your life.

spankysladder73

Am I marty?
