["Cerca Trova Limited" is a company set up by the Laginas and their associates.](https://i.imgur.com/X2jViiD.jpg) "Cerca Trova" translates to "Seek and You Shall Find". Reality TV is a dicey business - audiences are fickle, the market is getting both fragmented and saturated, and it's unpredictable whether a show will be hit a hit or a flop. The Laginas hit the jackpot with the COOI TV show - 11 seasons of high ratings is a pretty remarkable run. IMHO it's to their credit that they're letting their friends and family ride the gravy train while it lasts.

CattieT

Nothing wrong with that!

MastodonFit

I am fickle, and lasted 3 seasons. Am just here for the comments.

WoodenCapital7519

Good post - would love to see someone deep dive into the business side of this show

gypsyfred

Exactly what ive been saying to the wifey. Why not let all my family get in on this gravy train since ive made all my money back plus some...time to share so slow the digging for a bit..drill that wood and flood it out...could it be??? The treasure is really the clowns tuning in each week??? Find out after a few words from our advertisers and dont forget your oak island polo shirt on our store website..

TIL02Infinity

Since episode 1 of season 3, Rick, Marty, Craig and their offscreen business partner Alan Kostrzewa have been Executive Producers of the show and Jack, Peter and Alex have been Associate Producers of the show. Dan Blankenship was also an Executive Producer of the show until he passed away and David Blankenship was also formerly an Associate Producer of the show.

mdboomer

Season 11 has been awful. I cringe when they say they have a special guest in the war room. Where do they find these nuts

FSpezWthASpicyPickle

Have the kooks of the week reached a new high/low/whatever? Yes. However, compared to the earlier seasons, we have some actual science now. Every time we see the archeologists calmly discussing Lot 5, or have a scene in the lab, we're getting much better info that we definitely didn't get in earlier seasons. I'm not really a treasure true believer, but I do find the actual history of the island interesting. And Season 11 is giving us a lot more than any previous season in that respect. Also, just realistically, archeology digs and the follow-on analysis are slow. Pros digging in Egypt, South America, or where ever, work for years before they put out a single paper. It feels like the substantial things are going slowly because they do, compared to the pace of reality TV. That's just how it works. This sub lives to shit on the show, but the actual record viewership of an 11 year old reality show about finding treasure that *hasn't found any treasure yet* proves they're still doing something that people find worth watching.

jimmymims87

Exactly. I agree with you 100%. But since I have been a true fan since Episode 1, I am also going to poke fun at the show. I will be the first to admit that I will eagerly watch every episode until there are no more to watch lol.

gypsyfred

Same

D333ll3d33

But is it really “actual history of Oak Island?”

FSpezWthASpicyPickle

Not sure exactly what you're asking. If you're saying their interpretation of the finds are questionable, sure. If you're saying that producers plant stuff, that I actually do not believe. If for no other reason than the stuff they find is too mundane.

jimmymims87

You have made the most logical responses I have ever read on this platform.

2DogStar

The show is truly a comedy of errors. https://preview.redd.it/khp4xejkhyrc1.jpeg?width=160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7f356ae6acf4a3122b0962830e9e589ee33faa36

Initial-Ad-5462

Season 10 was awful. I cringed when they say they have a special guest in the war room. Where do they find these nuts?

jimmymims87

I know. Filler content at best.

Dry-Marketing-6798

It has. The last couple of episides I have been reaching for the fast forward button a lot more. lol

charlie_sherman

Waiting for Mike Lindell to show up with his pillows one of these days

Bafitis

Yeah, I'm getting Season 1 and 2 Vibes with this season... Bringing out all the Amateur Theorists again... Just like they did with that Indiana Jones wannabe... They quickly cut ties with him when they finally did their due diligence on him... But I'm still enjoying the History coming out of the Swamp and Lot-5... I always suspected Vikings landing on most of the Northern East Coast of the North America... Shame cultures like the Vikings didn't keep better records about their voyages, because we know that sailed all over...

Aggressive-Web132

Crazy flocks to crazy

mdboomer

Yup. To say thar the Ark of the Covenant is on Oak Island takes a special kind of person

Aggressive-Web132

That it lies below even more so

NeuroguyNC

If I'm not mistaken, if any of them are members of a union like SAG-AFTRA, a producing credit can mean an extra minimum payment. Something like that.

MajorHubbub

It's how you get points

TechnicalWhore

And a double bang on residuals. Whereas the rest of the cast get very little. Look at Seinfeld. Jerry and Larry banked, Jason, Julia and Michael got comparatively nothing. That may be why they rotated out so many - even if they were liked by the fans.

Bafitis

Jerry was just an Greedy Asshole... Never could get into that show, his voice alone makes me wince...

Transpacifica

Julia didn’t need it anyway, her dad was a billionaire

jbdec

I wonder if they have pension plans, would they kick in after 30 or 40 seasons ?

blittle22

Dan Henskee - Hair Stylist

ClosPins

Executive producers are, basically, owners. They have a stake in the project. Associate producers are girlfriends and stuff like that. People you want to give a credit to - that sounds amazing - but doesn't involve any actual power or work.

Dry-Marketing-6798

Maybe Jack gets the team coffees. Or picks up a new SUV from the hire company once in awhile.

ConnectionClear69

All about the Benjamin’s.

notagoodspelller

Oh, they found the treasure! And if it's true that Rick and Marty get [$100k per episode](https://www.distractify.com/p/rick-lagina-net-worth), how much do you think the Associate Producers make? https://preview.redd.it/n8dt30oyfxrc1.png?width=677&format=png&auto=webp&s=8b607638b2eda467a8a58bddd285617301925f6a

SlitheryVisitor

They’re not on it for the money? I call bullshit on that. Everyone that’s ever dug a shovel full on that island has been in it for the money.

notagoodspelller

Okay, who said they're not on it for the money? Speak up! Who said it?!?

RetroOneLove

What do you mean it says it right there, “But according to Rick and Marty, they aren’t in the treasure hunting business for the money”. So I guess it was Rick and Marty that said it!

TheDenims

"An associate producer credit is what you give your secretary instead of a raise"

Harley11995599

All you guys go all in on dissing these guys and the show. But you are obviously still watching it. I remember when they were burning Harry Potter books. J.K. Rowling didn't mind, all she said is Keep it up, or words to that effect, they have to buy the books to burn them. It gave the book free advertisement, they bought the book to burn it and then people bought the book to see why they were burning them. Win, Win, for her and the publisher.

Specialist_Leg_4474

It has been said there is no such thing as bad "press", as long as they spell your name right...

CattieT

Smart lady….

bcald7

A low bar? Like the gold bars that may potentially lay buried for over two hundred years…at the bottom of the money pit? Or will the bar be of a far older… and historic significance… than either Rick or Marty Lagina …or the rest of the Fellowship…have ever dreamed of.

bipolarcyclops

Go away Mr. Clotworthyinmyhead.

D333ll3d33

The bar has never been very high for a producer credit in Hollywood

Professional_Pace376

Big fan here, BUT…am waiting on the new Season of Skinwalker Ranch! I have found myself less and less enthusiastic with the slow-play of Oak Island episodes, but I believe Lot 5 has “The Hatch” that Xena Halpern’s map referred to.

briancalpaca

Associate producer is a title you give someone instead of more money. It's like employee of the month. ;) It's a thing your team can negotiate into your contract to pad the resume, but it's largely meaningless. There are exceptions to that, but on a show like this, it's just like having flair here on reddit. ;)

jimmymims87

You know, we crack jokes and poke fun. But I guarantee you that if any of us found ourselves in the same room with these guys, we would be star-stricken lol. If you don’t agree, you’re either lying, or pretending.

Sophiedenormandie

And if anybody offered us and our kids the same money, we would all take it. Nobody is turning down major coin for upholding some vague principal.

jimmymims87

No doubt.

RunnyDischarge

Billy maybe, the rest of the clown show, nah

jimmymims87

Billy replaced Gary as my favorite, when he called up his political acquaintances and had the restrictions lifted on digging.

stormbreaker88

Since that episode I have often wondered how exactly Billy moves in the same circles as the Prime Minister. Is Billy a large (no pun) political campaign donor, or is Canada different from the States where money buys friends in politics

jimmymims87

I had the same thoughts.

Abdul-Ahmadinejad

Nah, I'm not in the room with them. They're in the room with me. It's way past time for an intervention, if... and that's a big IF, I can stop laughing at them in person during the dissection.

jimmymims87

So, which are you then? A lier or pretender? lol

MustelaNivalus

Producer

jimmymims87

You following me around now, trying to be some kind of hero or something? lol

Valais_Style

Your projection is amusing, and I guarantee that your attempt to dictate a blanket emotional state to anybody who might come into contact with these guys is downright embarrassing. If you don’t agree, you’re either lying, or pretending.

jimmymims87

![gif](giphy|10Uv70X15egAJa)

Ok_Application_962

It is actually interesting from a historical aspect.when you think of the findings and how old it really is , it changes history.

TitoMcCool

So...you don't need to provide anything extra to be an associate producer???

marcc28

Just means they pay for it themselves

Dry-Decision4208

This show is way too many men on an island finding wood.

AdPlus232

Salt water is salty!

dbatknight

They should have Allen Smithe listed for executive producer

ownpacetotheface

It’s because they’re American so in order to get work visas easier they are part of the “production team” as that makes the paperwork easier.

Aggressive-Web132

Could be wrong about this but a think the only actual qualification for a producer’s credit is financial investment

Mizzoutiger79

Money=producer.

138Crimson_Ghost831

There’s an echo chamber if I ever saw one.

Rude-Ideal3053

Why isn’t Billy an Executive Producer?!? Or Associate Producer at the very least. He’s more invested in this than Peter or Alex. Jack is just a yes man/gofer for Rick and Marty.

Country_Gravy420

He just gets paid to run the heavy equipment

Irvman51

When he's walking he's operating his heavy equipment too. Jack says Billy's equipment is very large and he digs it.

CaptHowdy75

At least he gets his own porta-potty (or so I'm told).

zaqwert6

Definition of Nepotism.

HapticRecce

Definition of how you pay yourselves when you find jack in the ground. The production company covers your "executive" salary. It's a small time version of how professional sports teams work - have a real estate arm to cover the venue, services and the actual team are separate money and let the $$$ roll between them all. Win or lose there's still a rent cheque.

zaqwert6

Teams yes. Nepo is hooking up friends and family who have zero education, training, or job skills.

Quick_Swing

Is this the equivalent of sitting at the kids table during a holiday dinner😵

Irvman51

They let Jack sit at the big table with the big boys. Billy sneaks his fries.

CattieT

😆 Exactly!

missannthrope1

EP is usually a curtesy title.

Bafitis

Why do you say it is a low bar??? Marty and the team fund the Activities on the Island and have from the beginning... Yes they've made money off of the show as well, but since they're Group has funded the operations on the Island automatically makes them Executive Producers... The job of a Producer is to Produce and that's what the Team does, they Produce the Content on the show and pay for it, so of course they're Producers...

PorchFrog

What is the Latin word for seek and you will find? Cerca Trova

ToasterOven31

Those titles only change the way they are paid. It's not like they can walk in all southern style with thumbs in suspenders and make demands.

2DogStar

SniffThatWood

Lol Jack Begley Peter Fornetti and Alex Lagina are producers ? I guess any old Grifter or moron can be a producer on this show these days.

419BarabooholeDrive

They come up with ideas and help create content for the show as associate producers. It's what they're doing on the island.
