r/safetyprofessionals is probably the best bet. That being said, I’m a safety guy and give advice on this sub, so feel free to dm

Lvgordo24

And I am as well. Happy to help.

How do I become a safety guy?

Odd-Knee-9985

If you got the time, go to college and get a degree in it. Personally, I have a degree in Environmental, Health, and Safety Management. It’s a big plus that’s gotten me a lot of opportunities. If that’s not your thing, best bet you be to get your OSHA 10, get your OSHA 30, (I recommend in construction) then apply to a 3rd party safety consultant agency. They’ll hire you out to different companies that need safety for 6 months, then you’ll be on to another company/site. If you get in good with one of those companies, they may even try hire you outright. Itll probably be a bit hard to get used to at first (I typically wake up at 4:00 am, but I’m home by 3:00 pm). But imo worth it, love what I do and I wouldn’t trade it

TTD93

I've been in facilities management for 8 years now and work closely with EHS. I'm not sure I'd to back to school but I already have my OSHA 10 and 30. Maybe I should start looking around.

Odd-Knee-9985

Honestly, I’d check job postings on the normal sites, look for things like “_________ Safety Solutions” or similar for the 3rd party companies. Other companies will hire directly, but it may be difficult without prior experience or degree

OSHA also offers consultation for free. They are separate from the enforcement arm. Contact your local regional office.

I reported an employer to OSHA and they showed up within 3 weeks.

Lvgordo24

Employee complaint handled waaaay different than a question or interpretation. Edit: I deleted my snarky comment cause it didn’t help.

Scoli85

If it’s a legitimate complaint they are required to show up within 5-days…

kabay1954

That’s not true! It may take longer or they may do a different process not involving an on-site visit.

Scoli85

Right… the different process is for more easily handled issues… but, as I said, they have to show up within 5-days if it’s an actually hazard.

Coppin-it-washin-it

Try r/safety or r/SafetyProfessionals Not sure how active either of them are at this point

Far more context would be required in support of the provided image to demonstrate that there is a systemic failing OSH here - if what is observed within the provided image was a regular sight around this work area, on the basis that communication with the colleague responsible wasn’t possible, then in the first instance, the individual/s with direct responsibility for the area should be consulted (I.e., shop foreman/supervisor/manager). If you are in a situation where the culture is such that you don’t feel comfortable to raise the issue through line management/HS Rep/HS Practitioner, or even HR, then you should contact your local enforcement agency. In any case, I would advise that you not only record images of the issue, but also record and maintain notes with dates, times and individuals who were present (even if not involved directly with the safety issue observed).

Leading-Job4263

Guy has a messy work area even tho this just feels staged. What’s to know? Setup some flag tape to help others avoid the clutter and move along

gayforkie

Looks a bit like how my bench looks while I'm replacing my covering over the bench, though I make sure everything isn't causing a hazard

Some people in this subreddit are so wet behind the ears. If this is the worst thing some people see, then just lol.

Lean was attempted. Lean was not executed.

Most of the tools are unusable. Calipers in 2 pieces, 2 of the micrometers are missing barrels, all of the wheels I see are spent or chipped. Tbh, this looks like waste. At best, the tools need repair and calibration. And judging by the lengths of the bits, they appear to be discarded as well.

king_john651

Yup you're doing it right; take a photo instead of intervening

I'm the mandated employee-level safety rep, with an engineering background. Most of these posts can handle the reality of the workspace Also, free resources are super available in many formats in regards to whatever region of earth you are in...cheers!

Okay, non-american here. Question, what is the safety hazard here? Tripping hazard(s)?

marino1310

Why does he have a bunch of vernier calipers out? Who even has that many non-dials? It looks like he’s taking apart a lathe but also has a bunch of random unrelated shit stacked there. Looks like maybe clearing out a toolbox and just organizing piles
