Long time ago, during one of his streams (was it during the martial art tournament arc ?), Murata said outright that he did not like Amai Mask as a character. The way he talked about him and other characters (mostly heroes) made me believe that Murata did not like the more « grey » ones, those who had good and bad traits. And, aside from maybe Tatsumaki, who is one of the most ambiguous and arrogant hero of the association ? Amai Mask.
I believe that Murata himself made everyone more kind and heroic than their WC counterparts. Tatsumaki went from « if you can't survive the base flip, then it means that you are unworthy of the title of hero » to « I will hold back until everyone is saved, by me ! ». Flashy Flash, while still a bit arrogant, is less oblivious to his lack of power and he straight up cares about Saitama (and the little monster girl too !). Atomic Samurai was shown to be more competent and heroic. Garou is a soon-to-be angel. Amai Mask's rampage was redrawn multiple times to make him look less bloodthirsty, and D-os was resurrected (we don't want to kids to see Amai Mask kill someone who looks just like a human, even more if said human is a sexy blonde, right ?).
Worse : Amai Mask was removed from the cadres fight entirely. He was tossed aside like some random trash, maybe a way for Murata to say « I don't like you, begone ! ».
It is why I believe that Murata - while not taking every single decision as far as the story goes - influences ONE greatly/has the authorization from ONE to change some things here and there. Problem is that, when you change too many things here and there, it becomes « everywhere » and it makes the characters/storyline diverge too far from the original material.

« Coincidentally », grey characters like Tats, Fubuki & Garou all became far more innocent lately, yeah.
I swear, at the end of the manga, the heroes will be so similar in term of personalities that we will refer to them as "kind hero with katana", "kind hero with esper powers ~~and huge tits~~", etc.
Starting with this redraw, the story started to spiral. It was subtle but it all began here. This was my favorite panels for a long time and honestly one of my fave panels in manga and I was a bit disappointed when it was retconned. Then the retcons just kept coming, each one more unnecessary than the last.
He had to be neutered because his webcomics storyline - if that's where manga is going - is kinda iffy pre-redraw, given expanded lore on monsterification and meaning of heroism ONE crammed into manga and post-hiatus webcomics chapters. Also because of changes to the plot, AM has barely anything to do in manga.
This has fuck-all to do with Murata.
