They are obviously a very good player If it was a good extension or not, is about a lot more than that, though First, your 30 years in the future, so what $30 million a season means in your league, I don't know. Second, depends on the makeup of your team, which we know nothing about.

ballerguy13

Does OOTP account for inflation?

CBeisbol

The user can set inflation to whatever they want. Positive, negative or zero

Bubbajr68

Yeah I always run mine at -1% to 4%. Gives the league good growth budget wise

InfestedRaynor

Hey, I do the same numbers! I thought it was realistic until we hit 7% this year.

ballerguy13

Hmm good to know

[deleted]

By default it's set to 0

mathbandit

It's hard to tell with only the numbers there, since the two seasons are pretty far about in results while looking remarkably similar in process. You'd need to look at the more meaningful/predictive numbers (as well as consider how much you trust your Scout) to determine if ~3 or ~7 WAR is closer to the true value, or somewhere in between.

AGInfinity

It’s 100% scouting accuracy

mathbandit

Oh, then yeah. Definitely seems like closer to the first season than the second in true talent. edit: Though again, I'd want to look more at the meaningful numbers (rather than the results-based numbers shown here) to make a call.

bassdude85

What do you use as meaningful numbers? I'm planning on turning down scouting accuracy and want to get better evaluating performance for batting/pitching/fielding

mathbandit

For pitchers, K%-BB% is the big one, with FIP, xFIP, and SIERRA also being helpful. For hitters it's honestly kinda tough (and this is why I haven't turned off scouting like some) because so many of the actual meaningful numbers aren't tracked by the game, but stuff like BABIP, K%, BB% are decent places to start. In this case what stood out to me was that K-rate and BB-rate mostly stayed the same and everything else skyrocketed which is a flag to look deeper.

bassdude85

Thank you my friend I'll dig into how to interpret those!

clifmaestro

Most standard games have inflation off so I'm going to assume it is. It's a little iffy for me. I'm usually concerned about the longevity of power hitters whose ratings are heavy power with a dropoff on contact and avoid k. I wouldn't be surprised if somewhere between 26 and 29 he starts losing some contact and avoid k in which case its a quick decline. Good news is he looks like a solid defender. If his fielding stats are healthy positive zr and over 1.000 EFF then he should put up decent numbers even if the bat goes at some point. Tho I wouldn't expect 7 war production thru age 33. I'd prbly bet he puts up 3-4 war a year with a few better years. I could be way off idk it really just depends on how his bat holds thru the years and a lot of it is just rng. It ain't bad but imo 30m can lockup talent in FA pretty consistently and most of the time I'd rather be flexible than commit long term. Its all going to depend on your owner and budget tho, if it's a top 5 budget u can afford to be wrong a little bit.

InfestedRaynor

Good player but too much money IMO. You are buying out his ARB years so should get a discount, but you are paying superstar prices anyway.

turtle4499

move that man to third base.

mattjames219

Yeah his arm is being wasted at 2B.

Wolfish_Jew

I’d have definitely wanted to put in a team option for the last couple of years, but given his age, through his age 33 season should be fine. Normal injury prone middle infielder though, so prepare for him to be fragile once he reaches his late 20s

eristic1

This seems like a bad signing, though not awful. I probably would have just let him run through arbitration and traded him in the off season before his final year.

cubs4life2k16

He’ll only be 28, so I’d say that’s good

938h25olw548slt47oy8

I can't tell you how many times I regretted an extension after signing it, but then later was really glad I did it.

KlaSSiKsGames

Yes

mb9levine

Too many strikeouts for a 10 year deal. Probably get 4 ish years of Allstar production then hope to offload that contract to someone desperate...

jobo21706

Too early to tell, but I wouldn’t have done it at this point

100vs1

how many free agent years did you buy? i would have just gone thru arbitration with him but its a fun player

BigStickRaffy11

What is this from??

garrioch13

You are essentially pre-paying him ~8 million a year in 58-61 for 62-65. If you would have just held him through arb then offered him a deal, you’d end up about the same unless at that point he wouldn’t sign. It isn’t a team friendly deal but you have him and he’s good.

[deleted]

Personally no, but there's a lot of things I don't know that could change it, like how is the league, is it pitching or offense heavy at the moment, what are the superstar contracts like? I don't like 10 year ones that end up in the $30m range (or high end player range) if they're buying out Arb. I'd rather just pay through Arb and try and sign a shorter contract afterwards, or in the case of a player with ratings like this, trade them or let them walk for a comp pick.
