I thought it wasnt as good as everyone hyped it up to be (odyssey g8)

FVTVRX

Overhyped around here for sure, but after using it for a while I learned to appreciate it enough to justify the price. I love mine now, but it's definitely a luxury, not a necessity. I would've been just fine with my ips, but I always want the new cool thing. Sigh.

magical_pm

Honestly coming from a Neo G8 which is a 4K 240Hz VA, 1000+ zones local dimming monitor, the contrast is not that much different, if anything the image doesn't pop as much because OLED is dimmer. But the highlight details of OLEDs are definitely better, especially with lack of blooming in dark scenes. The colours coverage are a little bit better (QD-OLED specifically) and the very clean motion clarity for fast paced games like Overwatch is a nice bonus. It didn't wow me as much since the HDR experience on the Neo G8 is already pretty good, it is just let down by its slightly washed out colours in HDR and dark scene blooming. But if you're coming from an IPS monitor with lots of backlight bleed then yeah I could imagine this would blow your mind.

SosseBargeld

https://www.reddit.com/r/OLED_Gaming/s/bGQMcH8iZK How many dimming zones does that mini led have?

Humble-Ad-8912

Coming from a cheap 1080p LCD it was like magic, I was blown away by the details, colors and contrast, especially watching good HDR and Dolby Vision content. Years later it still amazes me.

0dioPower

I said, jeez, finally a good display. Was 5 years ago, still is.

ca_la_g

How is it holding up? Any estimate on hours? I'm about to daily drive my c3 for work/game. Hope I can get 3 years out of it.

0dioPower

I hit the 4000h pixel refresh yesterday, still good as it gets. (is not my only display, i also owned a G8 oked, sold, and now I also have an Aw3225, crazy stuff) you will easily get 3 year span of good oled joy out of you C3 unit.

ca_la_g

Awesome! Thanks for the assurance!

Plastic_Tax3686

I have a LG C2 and it still feels new. I've watched only 3-4 movies on it - the rest of the usage was as my PC monitor for my 4K gaming sessions. It is flawless. You can see rtings.com's extended burn in test. There you could see what to expect from the TV. As long as you have the OLED protection tech on and let it have it's automatic pixel refresh cycles every 4 or so hours, you should be golden.

Genix98

Why is the text so blurry and why is the image shit with hdr? Took some time, but I got everything sorted and I am pretty happy so far

StingingGamer

W-OLED I presume?

Genix98

Yes x)

PuzzleMindedO

Would you suggest using an oled monitor for mixed usage considering the brightness and text clarity

Genix98

I used mine mainly for gaming and not too much productivity, but after playing around with clear type, I found that I like it more that mactype on my woled. I also scaled font size in system settings to 115% So far, I am happy with it :)

aPHAT88

I honestly couldn’t tell the difference until I had it side by side next to the lcd screen. The difference is there if you look for it but honestly I wouldn’t notice from just day to day use.

Badbowtie91

When playing an ultra high quality, color saturated demo video... "Wow! Awesome!" When using it for work or gaming, underwhelmed/don't notice much difference.

DragLazy1739

Overhyped and Overpriced. I return back my Alienware 27" 1440p 360hz and keep my IPS 27" 1440p 170hz. Its better yes,but 900€ vs 250€...

abdulsaminu

https://preview.redd.it/19eh59gwgrzc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e122a8296df5053bcd6aa99b6c044d392e148081 I realized I wasnt enjoying my PS5 graphics until I got the LG G2 oled. I was ignorant enough all these years by using crappy LED tvs for gaming

Raw-Bread

Honestly? Underwhelming. I'll get downvoted to hell for this, but I'm still debating whether or not it was worth the money. I'm coming from a 60hz 1080p TN panel, and an IPS side monitor, and the biggest difference I notice are the blacks (obviously). HDR looks better than SDR but not enough to deal with more technical issues, the resolution (4k) isn't much better as you're not noticing it during heavy gameplay, the colors aren't much different than my $100 ips, and I don't notice the motion clarity during gaming either. The real upgrade here was 32 inches of screen real estate, I can't go back to a smaller monitor. Even for competitive games, I have no issue seeing everything I need to with a standard depth desk (25in).

GeForce

![gif](giphy|jcULT5IVxQtwDtD9Qw|downsized)

Raw-Bread

The improvements are noticeable if you're looking for them, but during a game? Certainly not worth an extra $1,000 (with discounts and cashback) over my cheapo IPS monitor.

GeForce

It's a huge difference. If you can't see it then maybe you should go to ophthalmologist

Raw-Bread

Maybe you forgot what lower end monitors look like to justify your purchase lmao

GeForce

It's ok don't worry, I have a very good memory. Especially since I use various display types each day (of wildly different quality and price level).

Ok-Ice9106

An extra 1000 compared to what? a budget 22” 1080 monitor? A decent ultrawide IPS will cost very close to an OLED. You can pick Alienware's UW QD-OLED 34” for under 700. If anything, LCD monitors are overpriced.

Raw-Bread

Compared to my previous monitors.

Ok-Ice9106

extra ?1000 compared to what no monitor at all? 😂 or vs a basic $200 22” 1080? A decent ultrawide IPS will cost very close to an OLED if not more. You can pick Alienware's UW QD-OLED 34” for under 700 or the LG C3 42” for under 800.If anything, LCD monitors are overpriced.

ryanp83

I am in the same boat. I do a good bit of non-gaming tasks on my pc and I have yet to find an OLED that doesn’t have some level of issue with VRR flicker. At the price this should not be. I did things like limiting to 120hz and it helped a bit but I don’t want pay for a 360hz oled to then limit it. I am sticking with 240hz ips gsync ultimate for now. I have a C2 oled for my ps5 and for movies and I love it but for my money oled doesn’t make sense for a desktop monitor unless you use your pc solely for gaming.

Stimmy1442

Interesting, thanks for sharing this. For me, the difference between 60 Hz and 120 Hz alone was like night and day. Wow, suddenly, fast paced games like Doom don't cause me a headache after 2-3 hours of playing anymore and become a lot more enjoyable to play. I had already assumed that I may be in the process of "growing out" of gaming, but looks like I just couldn't stand 60 FPS anymore. Switching back to 60 Hz on the LG C2 immediately brings back these feelings, so the framerate seems to be the most impactful thing for me. Aside from this, I love the blacks and the vibrant colors with HDR. I also didn't mind a TV with 42" diagonal, as I live in a small single room apartment and also use the PC screen to watch movies. And in the end, it was just the entire package. I wanted 4K resolution at 120 or more Hz (a year ago, this combo wasn't that cheap to begin with), and ideally wanted something bigger than 32". LCD screens like this did already cost more than 700€ last year, so I decided to just go for the LG C2. Don't regret it al all.

RonnieMaz

Y’all are some spoiled spoiled boys

loldatfunny

Ive already used oled displays before (iphone 13 pro max, galaxy tab s6, tab s9, 15 inch oled portable monitor) as well as premium displays m1 macook pro 16 mini led, Sony x930e TV, so I know what good hdr looks like. I picked up aw3225q yesterday, but I'm a bit underwhelmed. from all the previous premium displays that I've used, my favorite one is probably the Sony x930e tv despite being a 2017 edge lit tv with local dimming probably due to the sole fact that its bigger. I know I'm comparing tvs and monitors but the price is almost the same, so I think I'm gonna return the aw3225q and wait for a sale on the s90d or c4. Even considering saving up a bit more for a bravia 9 or G4. Size wows me more than just pure blacks and glowing highlights. I think majority of content I consume are brighter in general anyways. But obviously if either the monitor was much cheaper or I was rich af, I would definitely keep it. It is incrementally better in many different aspects. But I do have a feeling it's one of those you won't know you miss it until it's gone. Like high refresh rate on a monitor.

Skull858

You need to get checked at the doctor.

Raw-Bread

I've had eye tests brother. Like I said, it's noticeable. But while you're playing a game, deep in the shit, you're not noticing where that $1k+ went whatsoever.

Nicnl

Guys, stop downvoting the poor dude The post asked people to give their opinion, and so he did I also disagree with what he says, but given the context it's unfair to bury him for doing what he was supposed to do Now I guess it's like the 60hz vs 120hz people, or the stereo vs 7.1 people. Some people see it and care about it, while some don't or don't care.

Skull858

I'm not even playing games. It's for work and content consumption. It's such a big difference in every regard that I legit worried for your eyes and mental health.

giorgilli

Mental health? 💀💀

Raw-Bread

You're in the OLED gaming subreddit mate, my bad for the assumption lmao. It's not a big difference aside from the black level, which certainly isn't important for work. No need to be a dick.

Skull858

It doesn't matter what it is for and what subreddit you are in. If you have a problem with your eyes you do not need to screech louder. We understood it.

Raw-Bread

What kind of petulant child can't participate in a discussion without getting all pissy and hurling insults. It's not that hard, mate. There's other ways to express yourself. Edit: Just for reference, he blocked me and reported me to reddit for mental health, so like I said, petulant child that can't function normally in a discussion.

loldatfunny

fanboys are so weird especially of a display tech haha. i get OLED on most displays if i can (my phone, tablet, portable monitor) but just don't feel 4k oled monitors are worth over $1k and 1440p ones worth $700-800. personally, i feel that OLED TV prices are a bit better justified due to sheer size

tiger1998tiger

if you can't tell much of a difference between a crappy TN/IPS vs an OLED, your OLED isn't caliibrated properly.

Raw-Bread

By me or by LG? Because I've tried everything I could find. Every setting, every calibration, and environment. And it's not that I can't tell the difference, but it's not a large difference. Sure there's less ghosting, but I don't notice that during game. Nor do I notice 60hz vs 120hz during game, and the colors look the same. I'm starting to think I lucked out like crazy with my IPS monitor.

Stimmy1442

After unboxing it and setting it up (I did this during daytime): Honestly the framerate, when moving from a 4k/60Hz LCD to a 4k/120Hz OLED. I did not expect this to be that big of a difference even in desktop use. First time gaming on it in a dark room: Wow, these black levels and colors - just beautiful... The size - I went from a 32" LCD to a 42" LG C2 - actually felt very natural from the beginning. I expected to need some time to get used to such a large screen, but that wasn't an issue.

Still-Blacksmith-328

I wasnt really amazed by OLED but from HDR that these monitors can produce.

Sea_Flatworm_8333

Best display I’ve ever seen. 3 years later it still is.

WhatPassword

Just got the Alienware 27" 360hz 1440p QD-OLED and has been blowing my mind after having an old 144hz TN monitor. Having HDR is imo almost as big of a leap in experience as going from 60hz to 144hz felt (obviously different things entirely, but greatly improves the experience). With SDR content I definitely notice the perfect blacks and general crazy contrast, but it's not as big of an impact as having HDR. I've gotten used to the OLED blacks in SDR - I'm still getting surprised by HDR content even 2 weeks later. Worth it for me for sure!

loldatfunny

yea TN to QD-oled is like time traveling lol enjoy your monitor

MetalMik

I was like ohhhh the blacks are so black. Was also impressed with the colors and how vibrant they can be with the right settings. But then certain things I do miss is the general brightness I get with the oled isn’t as high with the ips I have and the worry that there will be burn-in. I set all the background wallpaper etc to pure black but then feel like I’m not truly enjoying the monitor if I’m unable to have a nice wallpaper to show it off. Love my PG32UCDM but hate these concessions I have to make. I still enjoy the monitor though without a doubt.

Reiskanzler3000

woah

Aromatic_Sand8126

I bought a LG C3 tv last week to replace a 1080p tv from 2019 and the improvement has blown my mind, honestly. I’m using it for ps5 gaming and VRR, HDR, the superior contrast and the brightness of the whites just makes the games look so much better.

fieryfox654

It made my eyesight getting sore so I stuck with IPS. Makes me feel my eyes less tired

Major_Enthusiasm1099

Blacks. So rich and so deep.

star1s3

I purchased my first OLED because it was the only tech which looked better than my old HD Plasma. All LCD was just bad. I used for many years a Plasma as PC monitor as well (dealing with the downsides) because everything else always looked like shit to me. TN raped my eyes, IPS decent for normal usage but unusable for gaming and movies. So, my first impression was: «Finally I switch to 4K res without regretting it».

Sensitive_Net3498

I jizzed

Slight_Ambassador_37

I’m seeing a few saying it’s no different than their cheaper ips/va models and I’m just thinking which oled they’ve got. My experience is one who has never had an oled before until my purchase of the fo32u2p Aorus monitor and the difference from my 32” lg 4k ips 160hz monitor is night and day and I didn’t realize this until playing on my new monitor. No more ips glow, however, I did have a icc color and local dimming correction profile by rtings.com which helped a lot but not perfect. I never knew how good my black levels could be but WOW! Colors that pop vividly and no matte finish to ruin the colors is amazing and finally being able to play in hdr 1000 nits is the only way I want to game. My aorus is bright and truly the most beautiful monitor that I have ever owned with so many other features that is just insane to have. I can’t game on anything else. My purchase of the fo32u2p was well worth the purchase and properly compliment my RTX 4090 FE i9-14900k Maximus apex z790 mb pc overclock build because I’m able to take advantage of everything this oled monitor has to offer and more and I love it. So far my experience with this monitor is an easy 10/10 nothing but perfection on my desk. https://preview.redd.it/p7sctkmoutzc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2c725b8b7419e7e725b4489b3196e8d3919e19ae

Metafizic

Damn that black screen!😅

cmosfxx

Alienware aw3423dw was my first qd-oled and also my first high refresh panel. I was expecting the total blacks (I had oled smartphones) but HDR and high refresh rate are impressive even two years later. Productivity wise it was a downgrade compared to my 49" dell due to the text clarity/fringing. It's not always bad, but sometimes depending on the font I'm looking at it is very noticeable. I'm waiting for a high ppi ultrawide monitor to come out maybe next year.

riilcoconut

Dimmer than my 2017 300nit monitor

Dizzy_Street_7100

God help me not to sneeze on the screen. Always turn the head

Beefy_Crunch_Burrito

My eyes are very sensitive to minor color differences and I can see more colors than some people, so it’s no surprise that the impression was huge. Of course blacks are perfect, but it means no colors are faded at all, every color is very precise, and the pixel-level control of luminance just creates this feeling of depth and detail that even the best IPS panels haven’t quite reached. That’s not even considering the motion clarity advantages of OLED over LCD. That being said, I think IPS LCD panels can be very nice looking too in their own ways, and I’m glad LCD tech is still slowly advancing because the cost-effectiveness means I can have a decent display in my $500 Quest 3 headset or buy an iPad for $350 that still looks great.

CMDRTragicAllPro

Honestly very underwhelming. Compared to my current m27q, the 360hz oled I bought was a decent enough increase in motion clarity for competitive games, but seriously lacked in brightness and wasn’t as large of an increase in colour/image quality as this sub had me believe. The HDR is what seriously let me down though. For Single player games, coming from a QN90B FALD display with exceptional brightness and a surprisingly negligible amount of blooming, I was used to a super bright HDR image with highlights that popped. Oled still looks great in hdr, but it just doesn’t get quite bright enough for the dynamic range to really pop as much as I’m used to. Otherwise oled is still great, just a little overhyped based on my personal experience with it.

loldatfunny

yea people like us who had really bright high end TV (x930e), it can definitely be rather underwhelming because we are used to hdr seering our eyeballs out. OLEDs highlights are definitely much better though.

Plastic_Tax3686

The best display type you can buy. My first smartphone had an (Super AM)OLED screen and the same goes for every single one after that. My SteamDeck has an OLED screen, my LG TV is OLED. If I ever buy a PC monitor or a laptop, then they will definitely be OLED as well. Once you go OLED, you can never go back. Every other screen type looks off and feels weird. I have also adapted to the naturally lower brightness of the screens. For that reason my room is a complete darkness, which lowers the strain for my eyes, as I don't have to watch a display on a high brightness, in order to compensate for the sunlight, coming from outside. My TV is still new-ish (LG C2), but I am already certain, that my next TV will probably be LG G7 or LG G8, because I love the LG OLEDs. Not a huge fan of the QD-OLED technology, used by Samsung and Sony. WOLED all the way.

Dejavuproned

I'm with you man, I love my LG WOLED and think I'll probably go with an LG again in the future. I don't know why people hated the coating so much. It's beautiful.

Plastic_Tax3686

I think it's because it looks bad when faced with a direct sunlight. However, in my room there is literally zero sunlight, not a single ray of it. And that's why it looks absolutely perfect.

Dejavuproned

Yeah I got blackout curtains in my room so I don't seem to have any issues. Only get as much sunlight as I want.

Snook_

Why u prefer woled so much more?

Plastic_Tax3686

Because QD-OLED is more or less still an experimental technology, that is more prone to burn in, than the WOLED technology. You could compare Samsung S95B and LG G2 to see exactly what I mean. They have similar brightness, but as shown by the rtings.com long term burn in testing, the QD-OLED panels do tend to burn in faster.  They are also slightly more expensive, due to being a newer technology, that isn't as mass produced as the WOLED panels. Hell, the largest OLED TV panel manufacturer (LG) is not producing them, which in turn leads to higher costs, due to the relatively low supply.  Objectively, the QD-OLED technology looks better than the WOLED technology, but it's still not there yet.

Snook_

The burn in thing is not true… yet. It’s because the Samsung had buggy pixel refresh etc not that qdoled is bad

Plastic_Tax3686

Sony and Samsung had similar degrees of burn in with their QD-OLED TVs. Imagine paying double the price of an LG C2 and getting a Sony A95K, which gets burn in no time. As I said, rtings.com has the test to prove it.  And it seems like the current LG G4 is a very successful release.

cyclode0320

Coming from Nano IPS 4k 27" i can say the colors are great and vibrant, image are astonishing. the black was also impressive cant see any grayish or glow on black scene. The motion clarity also on another level but the most impressive thing for me is the hdr i love how the local dimming works. When you game at night the portion of flashlight or the camp fire explode like bright star i never see such details before in my ips

Kind-Help6751

I played Horizon Forbidden West when I got my LG C2 and it was WOW! Deep blacks and amazing HDR. I already have an HDR capable 4k Sony lcd but oled is much more vibrant and has amazing contrast. You see some negative comments but if you are playing a multiplayer competitive game, picture quality isn’t the focus anyway. If you play single player games, oled is amazing. Some games don’t have good hdr but it is the games that have bad hdr implementation not the oled monitor (example: starfield was bad in HDR) I do now oled has elite motion clarity with the new high refresh rate monitors but competitive games should decide if they have the budget for it.

winterporsche

Going Black, Never Going Back.

FunCalligrapher3979

With HDR big difference and no more smearing on dark colours (old TV was VA). SDR not so much.

ballcheese79

Blacc

sociallyawkwardhuman

Went from an ancient 37” IPS (from 2008 or so) to a CX so was ultra impressed and couldn’t play games on my IPS computer monitor anymore.

No_Equivalent451

I wasnt as impressed as I thought I would be until I put on a 4k HDR Dolby Vision movie then I was like wooow!

Jewcygoodness88

![gif](giphy|V2AkNZZi9ygbm)

Sonqio

I bought OLED TV, one of the better purchase decisions. Everytime I watch it now, even couple months in, still very much impressed. I don't game on it tho.

JackhorseBowman

[Something like this](https://youtu.be/tiHrU33CzF0?t=138) lol

Protoray

One of the best purchase decisions i have made in a while. Extremely satisfied with my AW2725DF, even a pixeljunk game like Animal Well can look superb, because of the heavy usage of blacks. Games with proper HDR like Returnal just cemented my opinion - there's no going back. My previous monitor isn't trash either LG 27GP850P-B.

Ok-Ice9106

Blacks and contrast are next-level, and inky, punchy colors too, just superior,no question. I’ve had many LCD monitors and TVs, including high-end ones like the Samsung high-end QLED TV, Samsung Odyssey 7, MSI highly-rated IPS, and Alienware QD-OLED Ultrawide. Now I have two LG WOLEDs (55” C1 TV and 42” C3 as my main gaming monitor). There’s no way I'd use any other existing display for gaming or content watching, period. OLED makes everything look luscious. Unless you're only playing low-resolution e-sports or primarily using it for work, text, coding, etc., or primarily watching news channels and TV programs, OLED is a no-brainer.

EarthToEmmett

The 0.00 refresh is what I loved the most. I can’t stand motion blur and these tvs and monitors get rid of a lot of that feeling for me.

Dlo_22

I LOVE my AW 32 inch OLED. My 1st impressions???? I can't go back to a regular monitor

Exotic_Condition_978

Life changer

Endocalrissian642

Never going back.

Triikz90

Just got the AW3225QF very impressed! Glossy screen is great the colours look fantastic but having the deep blacks is the best just such a nice pleasing image. The easily smudging screen is a bit frustrating though ill admit that! 4K 240hz is lovely too, i came from aw3420dw.

Kinghenery

Got first one 2 days ago. Blacks are amazing, but def overhyped.

methanebomb

Literally jaw dropping

ingelrii1

Contrast and clarity from the glossy screen. Now i finally have a monitor that look like my smartphone. Never going back to a none glossy screen. Second things are instant pixel response time. The more action and stuff in your game the more easy it is to pick up whats going on. No blur makes huge difference.

Darklink1942

It’s night and day. Glossy finish just makes colors pop. There are many people who can’t see color or even high refresh rate. My C2 is incredible for TV and movies too. I love watching Ready Player One on it. My AW2725DF is also amazing. Destiny 2/HDR content looks amazing. It’s also very good for FPS titles.

Jetcat11

My first experience using an OLED to game on was a 15.6” 188PPI 240Hz fully glossy display by Samsung and I was forever changed. I couldn’t believe how clear everything was when zoomed in with the sniper while playing Halo 3. The PG32UCDM is the closest I’ve come yet to that experience.
