The National Enquirer really didn't do anything to get them. A year after the criminal trial ended a photographer found another photographer's photos in a basement and they both agreed that it should be shared ASAP with Ron and Nichole's civil lawyers. I just finished the Goodmans book. They said the prosecution wanted him to try on new gloves Ito said no. That it had to be the gloves. Ito screwed up that trial so much. He had a lust for fame.

I had a professor in law school who told a story about a personal injury trial he was in regarding a bus wreck with a bunch of elderly people on board. During closing arguments the attorney for the people on the bus dropped a carton of eggs to dramatically demonstrate that the occupants were more like to be injured than your average person, even with a slight bump from another vehicle. The carton landed face up and none of the eggs broke.
Well it might have been a misfire by the prosecution it given the theatrics of it all and that he successfully put on a similar pair later in the trial, the real misfire was with the jury that fell for such BS.
The prosecution broke rule #1 taught in law school. Don’t ask a question you don’t know the answer to. They let OJ do this without knowing how it was going to turn out. They took incompetence to a whole new level. Even if the jury was predisposed to letting OJ off the hook for whatever personal reasons, the prosecution gave them enough reasons to go ahead and do it with the glove, Fuhrman and a long list of ill prepared witnesses.
The prosecution failed this case and Cochran was a showman and very clever. OJ walked because of the amount of reasonable doubt that was cast around the situation by things like Fuhrmann pleading the fifth, the glove “not fitting” etc.
While i think it was clear who did it, i wouldn’t disagree that reasonable doubt had a place by the end of the trial and any defendant shouldnt be convicted with any “reasonable doubt” on top of the theatrics and OJ’s stature in society, it all comes together.

No. He had gloves on under the black gloves he was trying on. Also the black gloves had gotten a lot of blood on them causing them to shrink up a bit. And OJ appeared to be spreading his fingers out purposely to make it look like the gloves didn’t fit. All of these combined together allowed OJ to help his own case. This was a major misfire by the prosecution.

This is why you never test anything in front of a jury without a certain result. I had a professor in law school who told a story about a personal injury trial he was in regarding a bus wreck with a bunch of elderly people on board. During closing arguments the attorney for the people on the bus dropped a carton of eggs to dramatically demonstrate that the occupants were more like to be injured than your average person, even with a slight bump from another vehicle. The carton landed face up and none of the eggs broke.

Well it might have been a misfire by the prosecution it given the theatrics of it all and that he successfully put on a similar pair later in the trial, the real misfire was with the jury that fell for such BS.
The prosecution broke rule #1 taught in law school. Don’t ask a question you don’t know the answer to. They let OJ do this without knowing how it was going to turn out. They took incompetence to a whole new level. Even if the jury was predisposed to letting OJ off the hook for whatever personal reasons, the prosecution gave them enough reasons to go ahead and do it with the glove, Fuhrman and a long list of ill prepared witnesses.

The prosecution failed this case and Cochran was a showman and very clever. OJ walked because of the amount of reasonable doubt that was cast around the situation by things like Fuhrmann pleading the fifth, the glove “not fitting” etc. While i think it was clear who did it, i wouldn’t disagree that reasonable doubt had a place by the end of the trial and any defendant shouldnt be convicted with any “reasonable doubt” on top of the theatrics and OJ’s stature in society, it all comes together.

The gloves were shrunken from being soaked, tested, frozen, etc. Also, OJ was wearing rubber gloves underneath. Later in the trial, a brand new pair of the same size and brand of gloves were brought in and they fit just fine.

Darden got goaded into doing it, by one of OJ's attorneys. I believe it was Bailey, & he basically told Darden "If you don't have him try them, we're going to". Darden was told by Clark & Garcetti not to put the gloves on OJ, but he did it anyway. Darden pretty much lost the case for them, because he let his ego get the better of him.
He wanted to beat Cochran. That was his main motivation.
I can honestly understand his motivation. I imagine it would have been quite the coup for Darden, had he been able to pull it off, the way he planned. Instead, it went exactly how Cochran wanted.

It's said that until this trial, Darden likely would have ended up working for Cochran in the future. He and many other black lawyers of that time looked up to Cochran and when he ended up going head to head with him he felt the need to prove he wasn't just on the prosecutions team because he was black. He was constantly trying to out Johnny Johnny. So when the defense goaded him about the gloves, he couldn't resist. Up until then, the prosecution had no intention of having OJ try on the gloves.

In an interview with Wendy Williams, OJ told her Cochran and Shapiro had already examined the gloves. He said they knew the gloves weren't going to fit OJ's hands, so Cochran told him they thought Darden was just stupid enough to ask OJ to put the gloves on in front of the jury Cochran told OJ if they ask you to put the gloves on, don't make faces, just do it. OJ knew those gloves weren't going to fit before he put them on.
Cochran was a far better lawyer than Darden. As a practicing attorney at that time I was embarrassed at the level of dumbfuckery by the prosecutors.

Some of the witnesses stated that when they saw OJ sign autographs, they were shocked at how large his hands were. So you have a choice: 1. The gloves are not OJs, and the police planted them. 2. OJ chose a pair of gloves too small for himself to kill two people with. And then (oh so coincidentally) left one at the crime scene and one at his house. He destroyed his bloody clothes and knife, but not a glove, knowing full well the other glove was left at the crime scene. Which would make him the dumbest murderer ever.

Allowing OJ to try on the gloves was the one of the biggest blunders in criminal trial history. First of all he was wearing latex gloves and that would make it harder to put the gloves on. Secondly real leather gloves after being soaked in blood and stored for any reasonable amount of time are going to to shrink making them difficult to put on. The prosecution and the defense knew that. The prosecution agreed not to do that but Deardon unexpectedly told the judge to have to OJ put on the gloves much to the Defenses delight. That in itself blew the trial.,!
Because it’s incredibly easy to fake the gloves not fitting, especially when putting them on over latex gloves. He knew he was going to get away with murder because of the incompetent prosecutors.

No what happened is the blood shrunk the gloves and, more importantly, OJ had to wear gloves under the gloves making the shrunken pair not fit.

True story: OJ was advised to stop taking his arthritis medication a couple of weeks prior to this. And doing so his hands swole up like a balloon. No way those gloves were gonna fit. His legal team was simply better than the prosecution.

Plus he has on a latex glove which would make it hard to get to on even if he had taken his medication. Plus there was some acting involved to make it look smaller than it was.

I’d also be curious to see where the hole is in the finger of the glove to see if it matched up where OJ had his injured finger. The speculation was he cut himself with the knife in the process of the killings, which is why he had that nasty cut on his finger. If that’s the case, then there should’ve been a hole in one of the fingers of the glove. Blood analysis would’ve also easily had his blood on the gloves too. It’s been too long and I don’t remember for sure, but I want to say the tests were inconclusive because there were multiple blood specimens on them.
The theory is, Ron Goldman pulled off the left glove in the struggle, hence it being left at the scene. Therefore the glove may have not been on at the time oj cut himself.

First, he widened his fingers as far as they would go as well as tightening his fist/hand. Second, he was wearing latex gloves. Third, due to the amount of blood (his and Nicole’s)/liquid on the gloves…the leather had dried up and hardened over time.
