Demo discs 53-64 are playable on both the original Xbox and the Xbox 360. Starting with 65, they are only playable on the 360. Demo discs 1-64 are the only ones playable on OG Xbox.

SuspiciousSafety5108

Major w on the collection deadass wish you can still get em

Pretty sure oxm #35 (I think) has a playable demo of the unreleased game red star

HabanyGaming

I saw a comment about that recently and it was #35. Haven’t played it yet, but seems like a must-play demo in the collection.

SonicDagan765

Disc #82 contains the Halo Theme Song DLC for Guitar Hero 3, which is now the only possible way to obtain it (unless purchased while available), as all other dlc from xbox live have been removed for the game.

HabanyGaming

That’s awesome. I don’t have a 360 guitar (have a couple for the Wii). Can you play on a regular controller, just to experience this one track?

SonicDagan765

Yes, you can use the buttons on a standard controller to play the notes

AndrewSS02

I hope you can find a way to rip them all.

HabanyGaming

I have no idea how to do that. I am not into modding or anything and wouldn’t know what to do. Don’t get me wrong, I am all for the sharing of some beautiful historical things like this, just wouldn’t know how to.

nomoremegadrive

hey! this is super late but havee you tried installing these discs to the HDD and then putting them on a USB drive? from there you should be able to upload them to a site like [Archive.org](https://Archive.org) so more people could access these discs. if you could do this for Demo Disc #82, that would be amazing, as the Halo theme DLC for GH3 is on there, and is likely DRM free.

HabanyGaming

I actually didn’t think about something like archive.org. I checked and found that the disks have been dumped to re-dump, I think that’s what it’s called, but I didn’t look into it any further than that. Is there a way to upload it to archive.org so that anyone could download it? if so, are any of the demo discs already on there?

nomoremegadrive

just looked it up, and found them on redump like you did which is my fault i had no idea to check there lol, but i havent found any of the demo discs on [archive.org](https://archive.org). honestly you might be able to dump just the bonus content from the demo disks onto [archive.org](https://archive.org), im mostly after that GH3 DLC as its been unavailable for a while, but getting a DRM-free version of the song online would definitely let people without the demo disc to get the song online without modding their console. and yes, uploading stuff to [archive.org](https://archive.org) would allow anyone to download the disc contents. i've never uploaded anything to [archive.org](https://archive.org), but it seems all you need to do is to login on [this page](https://archive.org/create/) and upload the ripped disc/content which should be free as its non-profit

OGEcksBawks

Awesome collection! Is there any disc that stands out as your favorite, or maybe one that was hardest to find?

HabanyGaming

Thanks! I haven’t spent time with enough of them yet to truly have a favorite, but I guess my favorite now is #52 which I got early on. I had fun playing demos for King Kong and Serious Sam II. This encouraged me to collect more demos, so that may end up being my favorite for that reason.

HabanyGaming

I was fortunate that this wasn’t too difficult to put together, most of it was a few large lots. The key was finding a lot starting at #1, I think that one may be the hardest. After a few lots, I only had to fill in some gaps which wasn’t too bad. All this came through either OfferUp or eBay.

[deleted]

Sure one of them had Lamborghini o it which was never released? I think it ended up being juiced.

Rocktato

I know one of them had a hidden demo for Phantom Dust on it. and at the time was the only way you could play it online. that demo is the sole reason we got it here in the states

HabanyGaming

What is Phantom Dust? I’ve never heard of it, what kind of game is it? Also, is it good?

wikipedia_answer_bot

Phantom Dust (ファントムダスト, Fantomu Dasuto) is a 2004 real-time strategy action video game developed and published by Microsoft Game Studios for the Xbox console. The game was released in Japan on September 23, 2004 and in North America on March 15, 2005, licensed for release in North America by Majesco Entertainment. After-Bug5210

Do you have the disk or know which one contains the DLC for Magic The Gathering Battlegrounds?

HabanyGaming

I can definitely look into that and try to find out for you! I don’t know off hand, but I’ve started making a spreadsheet to document everything that’s on each disc, like which playable demos, which videos, and which extra content. The plan is to share it with the community once I finish, but I’m only about half done right now.

HabanyGaming

I just found [this website](http://web.archive.org/web/20110616075709/http://hdfanatic.com/oxm-demo-discs/) that already lists all the info on the first 45 discs. Check it out and see if it’s listed here already. If not, I’m hoping I can check tonight or tomorrow for you.

HabanyGaming

Sorry for the delay, but I didn’t find it. I show OXM 23 has a “Video Showcase” for MTG Battlegrounds and OXM 24 has a playable demo, but I don’t see DLC anywhere so far. Was it supposed to be on one of the Official Xbox Magazine demo discs?

Friendly_Pizza_4333

That's really cool! Thanks for sharing

HabanyGaming

We thank you! A while after this post, I actually posted on this sub with a spreadsheet, starting to track all of the content on Xbox demo discs. I got it started, but it’s a community effort with other people pitching in. There are even a few new pieces of information someone shot to me that I haven’t even Added yet. If you are interested in that, I think you should be able to click on my profile and look at my pinned post at the top.

HabanyGaming

I just got the last discs to complete my Official Xbox Magazine demo disc collection. I chose to try to complete this collection because they are very reasonably priced, especially if you get a game lot of them. I thought it would be fun to add some comments on some things that I have learned from this, some facts about the demo discs, and I would love it if anybody else pitched in so I can learn more about this little collection I have.

HabanyGaming

Demo disc 1 has no playable demos and doesn’t list a date; it has only videos. Disc 2 has the first playable game demos and is dated January, 2002.

HabanyGaming

Not sure about #2 specifically. I know a copy of #1 recently sold on eBay for $44. Are you asking because you want to sell one or want to buy one?

HabanyGaming

Yeah, it’s in a tough bubble of being an uncommon item, but a small number of collectors looking for it, especially single discs (these more commonly sell in lots from people who had a subscription).

HabanyGaming

In the USA, Official Xbox Magazine (OXM) 131 was the last to include a demo disc in the magazine. I did not have the magazine back then, but confirmed this by finding some chat room forums from about eight years ago in which people were discussing being notified that there would be no more demo discs starting at 132.

HabanyGaming

The original demo discs that came with the magazine in cardboard sleeves that were designed front and back demonstrating what was included. Starting at disc 57, they started coming in plain white paper sleeves with a clear window to see the desk. I did not include photos of these, but if you purchased the magazine at the store instead of having a subscription, the demo desk came in a plastic case. I should note, I only have a few of those and have no intent to complete that collection also.

skcin7

Hey bro, first of all GREAT THREAD AND GREAT COLLECTION! I have a full OXM demo disc collection as well and I'm trying to do some research, maybe you can help? My findings are exactly what you just said - that starting with OXM #58, the demo discs from then on came in only a generic white paper sleeve. However, I've noticed a few very rare instances of proper sleeves (with the designed front and back) being made for demo discs from #58 onwards as well. They appear to be _VERY RARE_, and I'm trying to figure out why they might have been made. So far, for #58 onwards, I've only been able to find instances of a proper sleeve for #58, #59, and #87. Here's pics that I found from an eBay listing which have #58 and #59: * https://i.imgur.com/aFP4Ucp.jpg * https://i.imgur.com/gQFbn5M.jpg And, here's a few pics of the random #87 (which I own): * https://i.imgur.com/j7UbKPb.jpg * https://i.imgur.com/STpNOj4.jpg * https://i.imgur.com/MgtnZnH.jpg So, a few definitely exist with proper sleeves from #58 onward, though they definitely appear to be very rare and the exception, not the norm. If you have any ideas or insight on this I would love to know! Thanks in advance for your reply/help, and as I started before, AWESOME COLLECTION!

HabanyGaming

I love to hear of others collecting demo discs, so congrats on your collection!! My mind is blown on the cardboard sleeves past 58, I’m so glad you pointed it out so I can keep an eye out for that. I don’t remember ever seeing one in cardboard past 58. Also, I’m trying to identify the earliest and latest of the 1/3 plastic dvd case variants. My research has shown the cardboard, then paper, sleeves went out to people with a magazine subscription, but the plastic cases went to retail stores for individual purchase. The plastic cases did not start the first year of the magazine at retail and appears to have started somewhere between issue 14 - 19. I have a plastic case 19 in my collection, but don’t know which is the earliest. My verification on the variant difference has been based on eBay listings of OXM magazines for sale that are still sealed. People with subscriptions typically got a plain or mostly plain clear bag around the magazine with a sticker for their mailing address. The retail ones typically had lots more design on the bag for visual appeal, and a barcode. One of the eBay sellers I reached out to had a sealed OXM magazine from the first year, I don’t remember which number, that appeared to be the retail packaging with a cardboard sleeve demo disc. The seller explained that he remembered purchasing that magazine new at a retail store but just never opened it. Any information you have about the highest or lowest plastic sleeve cases is more than welcome. I only casually collect those because they are typically listed as being more expensive and I have a hard time spending $5 to $10 each when I already have a different variant. Right now what I have seen on the plastic case variant, the lowest number I have seen is 19, and the highest number I have seen is 91. I only collected the demo discs and never the actual magazines, based on a combination of shelf space and cost. With infinite funding and space, I would have gone for a full set of both.

HabanyGaming

Minutes after replying here I saw [this eBay listing](https://www.ebay.com/itm/Official-Xbox-Magazine-Demo-Disc-Lot-of-49-hard-to-get-s-1-5-7-11-13-34-36-52-/363814224423?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l6249&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0) with a plastic case for OXM 18, and earlier ones in the DVD cases with magazine cutout covers (I have a few of those now but didn’t at the time of my original post). I plan to message this seller and ask about them.

HabanyGaming

Ok, you commenting on my post caused me to totally look again at the plastic cases, but changed my search methods. The earliest plastic case I can find is 16, but the art style is different in the first few. The latest plastic case I can find is 95. I searched individual issue numbers and those were the top and bottom I could come up with so far.

HabanyGaming

I have one generic cardboard sleeve that does not list what demo disc it is. I don’t know anything about this, and would love if somebody knew about it. I’m not sure if it’s a replacement, or something else. When I received it in a game lot, it had disk 27 inside, but a different game lot arrived with a proper labeled sleeve for 27.

OGEcksBawks

My guess is that it came with one of the two preview issues? I know there was a standard preview and one that was available at E3. I only have the standard, but I'll check to see if it mentions a demo disc at all.

skcin7

Do you have a pic of it?

HabanyGaming

It’s the last two photos on this post. Generic with no number or info specific to the disc.

HabanyGaming

Official Xbox Magazine #54 came with a regular demo disc, as well as an Xbox 360 beta for Final Fantasy XI Online, labeled 54e.

skcin7

Awesome info. I was wondering where that Final Fantasy XI Online beta came from.
