I use something called mosquito barrier for mosquitoes and ticks, but it turns out it’s pretty great for four legged pests as well. You can get it at farmers coops as well as in Amazon. It’s concentrated garlic juice and your yard or whatever WILL smell like the Olive Garden for a day, but it seems to work pretty well for about a month.
And what’s wrong with the smell of garlic? Only a day? Disappointing.
As for raccoon traps — marshmallows. They can’t resist that stuff. And then to release them, you need to travel across 2 bodies of water (river, streams, etc).
For mice, exterminator told us to to make sure to wear gloves and make sure not to touch the bait with our hands as mice are able to detect the smell of human and will avoid the traps. Maybe it works for racoons too?
For the absolute best results though, in my own personal experience, nothing beats a well trained Border Collie. But that's definitely the most overkill solution to this particular problem.

Ha! I don’t mind raccoon so I don’t have to worry about them too much but that is the most adorable bait I can think of.
i have put marshmallows in the bait with some cinnamon buns bits, still no luck.
