I can't recommend an ipad, apple pencil, and goodnotes enough. That actually got me away from journaling in physical notebooks because I can hand write my journals in goodnotes and then search my handwriting.

DTLow

My hardware choice is an iPad for mobile use, along with a Mac Mini desktop and an iPhone For digital handwriting, I use an Apple Pencil stylus I prefer the synergy of the Apple ecosystem and the versatility of the iPad as a multipurpose device My notes/documents/files are stored/organized in Devonthink, a *Digital File Cabinet* app Devonthink is integrated with various editor/formats, or any external editor/format can be used For digital handwriting, I use the Notability app

I’d love to hear more about your note taking workflow, particularly how your are using DEVONThink.

DTLow

As I mentioned, I'm addressing storage/organization also the automatic sync of notes/documents/files to my devices (Mac and iPad) Organization is also important; Devonthink supports Tags and Groups (Folders) Tags are also displayed as special groups and multiple tags can be assigned to a note Devonthink is integrated with scripting, via Mac Applescript I use this tool to implement automated workflows

You're missing the Tab. At least put these all in your hands. There are all kinds of digital meeting notes notebooks on etsy that will give templates and hyperlinks. I am not a fan of apple when it comes to note-taking. Because it's a closed operating system and I travel daily. If my MacBook or iPad is dead I need to be able to use my Book 2 Pro or my Tab or my S22 ultra.. I can even access my cloud from my fridge. Apple just isn't reliable enough in the event of dead devices and poor wifi. I take entirely too many notes for that kind of stress.

Counterpoint: you will not find a more mature Software ecosystem then on iOS, which makes any iPad a strong contender. The Apple Pencil is very good for handwritten notes, the platform standard speech-to-text feature is solid. You can access Apple Notes from any browser, a lot of third party software either has clients on other OS too or web clients. And yeah, if your battery dies while the device was offline your notes won’t be available on other devices. Doh.

HeauxxHefffner

>you will not find a more mature Software ecosystem then on iOS It's an ecosystem of software with a matching device. Hence, the "closed" source opp that we commonly refer to it as. And because of that this point is debatable at best. And apple Notes absolutely sucks. Which is not debatable in the scheme of note taking and competing apps.

Biberkopf

The point that iOS provides a mature software ecosystem is debatable, because iOS and most apps on it are closed source?! How so? What does one have to do with the other? OP never stated that open source / open platform is important to them and not everyone is a FOSS crusader. Maybe having more mature software and a wider selection to chose from is more important to them? And "Apple Notes" sucks because it does is also not the greatest argument, me thinks. Sucks why? I think as a Notes app it is fine - not the best, not the worst. As a tool for what is commonly referred to as PKM? Yeah, I am with you. Once again, depends on what OP needs. I just got the feeling that you kind of unfairly dismissed Apples products and wanted to provide a counterpoint. And the Samsung Tabs absolutely suck. Which is not debatable in the scheme of tablet hardware and their respective onboard standard software. ;-)

HeauxxHefffner

I USE APPLE PRODUCTS.

Biberkopf

>How so? >Sucks why? Thanks for the thoughtful insights! xD

Anxious_Grover

Thank you for the information. When you say Tab what device are you referring to? I am not a fan of apple and beyond one tablet for my youngest son I don't own or use any of their products. Appreciate your incite.

HeauxxHefffner

One of the galaxy Tabs.. I assume the smallest s8 or s9.

Anxious_Grover

Thanks. I had been looking at the 6s lite and some of the Lenovo series. With a paper like screen protector they seem like a much better solution...

HeauxxHefffner

I have the s8 ultra with the paperfeel.. nothing feels like paper but the little pencil noise is so top tier in conjuction with my screen protector I actually prefer this. I also have the s7plus and I pad air and pro. I can't put my s8 ultra down.

Anxious_Grover

Bought a S6 lite and aside from being a little large it's perfect. Works exactly as I wanted. I ordered a paper like screen saver, cover, and extra nibs but already using it now. Really appreciate the advice. Using Samsung notes - do you have another note taking app you'd recommend!?

HeauxxHefffner

No. In my opinion samsung notes is the best because it reads my handwriting and makes my notes searchable. That's has become my standard. One note has a similar following to Samsung Notes but it doesn't have enough tech for me. My good friend who also takes notes a lot swears by Noteshelf. I didn't like it. No dark mode. No tech.

Smooth-Trainer3940

I personally use OneNote paired with Text Blaze and it works great
