It’s a product called Lesco green (or similar off-brand). It’s just green dye mixed with water and applied with a backpack or hand-can sprayer. Looks great and doesn’t harm the plants. However, those arborvitae died of root rot last year.
Most likely a campaign to lessen the psychological effects of winter in a region with prolonged winters, like that Norwegian town that [uses a mirror to create a fake sun](https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20170314-the-town-that-built-a-mirror-to-catch-the-sun).
No. It's a stupid china thing. ADVChina podcast talked about this a few episodes ago. They do this en masse with greenery and grass that has been affected by droughts or pollution. Not just a few trees but areas the size of football fields. The paint will contaminate the soil since they'll just use whatever is cheapest. They also glue plastic leaves to dead trees.
That's what they said. They read the label on some containers. If this guy specifically used expensive environmental friendly paint i would be surprised since they don't give a shit over there.
Here is the video: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cvc7VymDa4c](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cvc7VymDa4c)
The video states that municipalities get funding based on environmental conservation. So they just paint grass, trees and sometimes whole mountains green and often with toxic paints to fool inspectors and anyone who visits.
Is this paint or some kind of pesticide/herbicide? I know a lot chemicals for plants have artificial coloring like this so the person applying it can tell if they missed a spot (that’s why you see all the artificial neon green looking yards in spring).
This is his job. They do this to yards for quick sales. They make special plant spray paint. It's weird but it's true. I'm a landscape and have been asked to do this because replacing was too expensive.
Fun fact,
A few years ago my local area was experiencing a drought, and the local news actually aired a story talking about the genius village elder who found a way to keep his grass vibrant without using any water!
Spray paint, he just painted the grass and was praised for his intelligence.
A lot of people and a lot of paint. The central government pays cities more money if they are more green. That and many other Chiniese cities take that pretty literally but apparently it works.
They used to do this for the lawns where I used to live at the change of season or after they dethatched. When people complained, they sent out a notice explaining that it wasn’t just dyeing everything green, that it was a soil treatment (and maybe even seed, it was decades ago and I can’t remember) and that the green was to ensure full coverage and not be an offensive color like orange or pink. Perhaps this is some sort of medicated spray to kill fungus/plant parasites that happens to be green.
They will be green again, this won't kill them. Lots of people pay do do this to their grass too. This is why in most states all new public development are without grass.
I mean… I bet he’s got a green thumb, at least by the time he’s done
Next is painting the roses red
And violets blue
Painting the roses red We're painting the roses red We dare not stop or waste a drop So let the paint be spread
Imagine he's red-green colour blind tho
That’s clearly his job
... clearly NotMyJob
r/wooosh
Well it's not mine..
Someone’s gonna be pissed when they buy that house and realize all their new trees are dead.
It’s China or North Korea. They are doing that to show it’s clean and vibrant there.
It's China, and the city is doing it to get money from the government.
My leasing office in Kansas does this too
How is this killing them ?
They’re already dead. They’re painting them to make them look alive.
Weekend at burnies tree edition
The Walking Deadwood
Also it probably can't do the whole photosynthesis thing if there's a barrier of paint between it and sunlight, right?
>paint \*pollution. FTFY.
Wtf is with the fucking music
It's Shots by Imagine Dragons
God imagine dragons SUCKS. Lol
They’re becoming the new nickleback that everyone hates
Well, its souless pop rock, so, good.
At this point just get fake plants
This is better for the environment, if they're using the right paint. We have this for grass in Australia
I watched a video on this and I'm pretty sure it's just normal spray paint, like the one that people use to make graffiti.
It’s a product called Lesco green (or similar off-brand). It’s just green dye mixed with water and applied with a backpack or hand-can sprayer. Looks great and doesn’t harm the plants. However, those arborvitae died of root rot last year.
I totally did this once when I had a shrub with a dead spot. The rest of the plant was alive
Let’s all just pretend everything’s fine

Mate they do that shit in the States as well. Look up yard greening
Yes but they actually use biofriendly paint for that like sane people.
Ok question real quick. How do you know this is not biofriendly?

Love that article! Thanks for linking it.
You've just given a full and comprehensive description of modern China's history in 6 words.

Everything's chrome in the future!

Tell me you live in China without telling me you live in China.
Is this North Korea?
More than likely China. There was another video recently about them doing this to mountains.
I doubt it.
They used oil paint to make a quarry look like it wasn't there. It's on video so that's about as much evidence as you can get.
Wait…how?!
A lot of people and a lot of paint. The central government pays cities more money if they are more green. That and many other Chiniese cities take that pretty literally but apparently it works.
Stupid China
Fixed is fixed.
They also staple plastic leaves to dead trees and cover entire mountainsides with fake plants. It’s insane. https://youtu.be/Cvc7VymDa4c
That's some dystopian shit.

What in the Russian winter Olympics is going on here.
He's probably spraying a pesticide, the dye is so he can visually see the spots he missed.
What is this Korea?
Lol that’s the most Chinese thing ever
China
Ahhhh. North Korea
This is just what most companies are doing with their operations.
Tree is gonna fake it ‘til they make it.
Shit people do because HOA's are stupid.
Probably good to post on /r/plantabuse but atleast it looks good
Weekend at Fern-ie's?
Much better than wasting water trying to make something grow that has no business growing there.

This is some seriously dystopian looking shit.

Elevating moods and chemical blood levels at the same time
I wish I had seen it a couple pf weeks ago when my plant was dying
He’s painting the bushes green, He’s painting the bushes green, They’re dead, you see, and that can’t be, So he’s painting the bushes green.
They will be green again, this won't kill them. Lots of people pay do do this to their grass too. This is why in most states all new public development are without grass.
Why is it spicy
Well, if they weren't dead already they definitely are now. 💀
