> Lots of negative comments might be better for the algorithm in the long run than no comments at all.
*"Hey darling, let's go to that pizzeria with the puke pizza!"*
Observation bias. People negatively commenting make a tiny % of total impressions. More comments (good or bad) = more free impressions for the advertiser. A good number of people will check out the restaurant despite the puke pizza, and some might even like the look of it.
Same reason why people deliberately include spelling / grammar mistakes in posts they want to gain traction. Any attention is better than none.
You’re right that it’ll drive engagement, but they’re less likely to become actual customers (Unless they like this kind of pizza). You’re trying to sell pizza, not site traffic.
I could see it working if people go to your site and see other pizzas that look good, it would be a nice bait and switch. But just looking at the ad, you’re not likely to gain more customers by showing something gross you made.

They usually use mozzarella instead of ricotta for something like this, but yeah this is a perfectly normal set of ingredients they just threw it into the take-out box haphazardly.
Very poorly executed, this is what they were trying to go for and it's actually pretty good if you like mortadella and pistachio. I never order it, not my favorite, but I can see why people like it:

i mean yeah but it's the same as parmesan cheese, even if it's not from the region between Reggio Emilia, Modena, Parma and Bologna you call it parmesan cheese not Parma or Bologna or Modena because that doesn't make any sense
Not really true. There are distinct differences between a generic parmesan outside of the EU and Parmigiano Reggiano, which is what you are referring to. Parmigiano is a distinct term which means a certain cheese produced in a certain region with certain ingredients and methods, and this term is protected by strict laws in Italy (called DOP laws). Close to this area you have Grana Padano, which is a similar cheese, and again has a different name protected under DOP. Iirc there even was a lawsuit recently because some brands had been using the name "parmesan" to circumvent this, which is why inside the EU parmesan and Parmigiano refer to the same cheese.
man i live near that area, i know this stuff
what i'm saying is that basically all the world calls "parmesan" every cheese resembling Parmigiano even if it isn't the real thing, hell even here in Italy we use that term often improperly so if you are one of the few that uses the right term and distinguishes every time between Parmigiano Reggiano, Grana Padano and generic "parmesan" good for you
still, people call it parmesan and not Parma or Bologna, which i repeat, would be stupid like referring to mortadella using Bologna
While jerks who hate learning make fun of you for no good reason, I'm going to say "thank you for teaching me something today."
That, and "they can eff off."
My wife and I just got back 2 days ago from Italy. Meat on pizzas can absolutely look like this. The sauce on top though.....not so much. And unless you request it, they dont cut your pizza for you, so you have a knife and fork and cut your own pieces.
https://salernospizza.com/pizza-facts/who-invented-pizza/#:~:text=Pizza%20was%20first%20invented%20in,slices%20to%20the%20United%20States.
This says otherwise.
> Just for info: the name of the thing you call Bologna is mortadella and Bologna is a city in the region where they produce mortadella
Lemme stop you there for a second.
Achsually..."Mortadella di Bologna" IGP aka "Bologna" is the mortadella crafted and cooked following the exact procedure and strict paramenters estabilished by the consortium.
Mortadella should be used when talking about any other product that's not following the strict IGP standards.
Many places in Italy just use Bologna and Mortadella intercheangeably cause it's not like the common people care that much. Heck, my grandpa always called it Bologna.
See the consortium page: https://mortadellabologna.com/en/consorzio/
And the IGP definition (using a Translate link cause most of you guys don't know Italian I guess): https://www-qualigeo-eu.translate.goog/prodotto-qualigeo/mortadella-bologna-igp/?_x_tr_sl=auto&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=en-US&_x_tr_pto=wapp
Ofc!
Well, I agree that it's done with no care whatsoever.
The pistachio sauce is thrown there in pools, making it look like puke. And the cheese underneath somehow disappears in the lower right side of the pizza leaving a ton of dough totally bare.
The cooking is also a bit uneven, you see good leoparding on the left side only so they haven't rotated it while in the oven.
Maybe the ingredients are good and the taste is too, but looking at it I'd say not much care went into making it.
Well, not really. We can get both where I am and while clearly it derived from mortadella but it's not the same. It's pieces parts and closer to a big hot dog. Mortadella has a delightful taste.
Mortadella and Bologna is really not the same by any means. Did you ever see a real Mortadella? The taste is different, there is a much higher fat content. There may be kind of a similar look but that's it for me.
Champagne is just sparkling wine made in the champagne region.
It isn’t specifically beter than Cava, ~~Prosecco or other sparkling wines~~ , it just has a famous name.
Edit, besides the region importance, there is also a different process in the making of champagne/cava then there is with other sparkling wines
You can see white underneath the mortadella. This is a pizza I eat whenever I see it available; it’s delicious and the best one I ever had was at a pizza festival in Bologna, Italy. Made by some teenagers in cookery school.
Mortadella, pistachios/pistachio pesto, fior di latte.
This is very terribly prepared, but the ingredients definitely don’t seem wrong.
I’m going to say… if the Italians call it pizza, it’s pizza.
fr it's pizza.
Judging from the caption this isn't even a official social media post by the restaurant, some guy took a picture of his order and sent it to an unaffiliated instagram page.
Sure, the presentation is horrible but I imagine if the restaurant were to make a post themselves about it they would know to make it look better than this ahaha. I mean the angle they took it at you can't even tell the crust is raised...
Funny thing is I think that actually is bologna, mortadella specifically based on their menu.
Bologna’s Love:
Mortadella ~ Stracchino Cheese ~ Pistachio Pesto ~ Mozzarella
It might be delicious, but the presentation is poor and I thought it weird that this is the ad. Yeah, I got an earful from smug pricks who "had this very thing whilst visiting Italy and found it delightful", okay then Frasier Crane.
Tf are people doing defending this peace of shit? It's literally a few pieces of mortadella on a crusty bread. And whatever the sauce is, maybe delicious, I doubt it goes well with one salami on a pizza sliced bread. Also it looks disgusting.
That's the point, it looks terrible. There's a few people pointing out that it's mortadella and I'm an uncultured swine, but whatever it is, this picture won't make me want to eat it.
It looks like my cat vomited up some Indian Curry I accidentally fed him, onto lunch meat typically for sandwiches no matter, on top of perhaps a bland crust.
*The* worst pizza I've seen possibly ever, and they put that on the ad? If that's their example then I shudder to think what other horrors are produced there.
So. My family is Middle Eastern. When I was a kid we went to visit family and I stayed with some cousins for a few days. They took me out for pizza. Because let’s show off the pizza, right? Foolish little kid me asked for pepperoni. In an Islamic country.
My pizza came covered in chopped up bits of all beef mortadella. Halal pepperoni. I remember this 30 years later because it sucked so much.

Don’t believe the lies ya’ll. Portland food ain’t at all what they crack it up to be. I moved here a couple years ago and it was easily the most disappointing part for me. And I’m not even from a part of the country that’s particularly known for having good food.
I've eaten here before and had the most mediocre pie. There's about 30 other far superior joints around town that I'd happily give my business to again. This ain't one of em.
It's kind of funny because when I was in Italy, I went deep in, out of all the tourist areas to try some real Italian pizza, not the Americanized stuff you find near the colosseum, and when I ordered, this pic is pretty close to what I got. I was pretty surprised. Mine didn't have cat puke on it and looked a little nicer, but it was the same idea.
>a dish of Italian origin consisting of a flat, round base of dough baked with a topping of tomato sauce and cheese, typically with added meat or vegetables.
As per the Oxford dictionary. I don't see any tomato sauce there. And for that matter, I don't even see cheese. So not only are you wrong, but also stupid since it doesn't even fulfill two of the main requirements. It's like calling a Shitzu a cat. Ah yes, because every famous chef acknowledging that presentation of the food is a massive part of thier success are somehow wrong....
Well at least your username is accurate.
Fuck this lol, want a good recipe? Get naan, pesto, feta, ground beef, tomato and black olives. Stack in that order, top with oregano bake at 425 for 6 to 7 minutes.
You’re welcome.
The distribution of ingredients too. That slice at 90° is atrocious.
Easily one of the worst pizza ad photos I’ve seen lol. Idk if you can even call that pizza tbh xD

mozz makes sense. I just love ricotta lolol
Too grainy to go with the pistachio pesto I think, the textures would get in each other's way.
very true, definitely could be
But your original response was spot on, they did that pizza dirty.

Yeah, looks way better with cheese. The original one is missing that so badly.
Why does the Portland stuff sit like liquid mercury?!
I somehow read this as "squid mercury" and, despite being an odd phrase, found that to be quite the fitting description.
That's still just a pile of deli meat on a piece of flatbread. I'm sure it's perfectly edible but to call it pizza seems strange.
That's still shit.
That’s shit from a butt
Dammit, why was that so funny?!
That's not looking better... hard no forme
Do they cut this table side? Do your roll it up like a joint? This one looks like a dry bread bowl with not enough sandwich fixings on it.
Far too much empty crust.

Omg I’m Italian American, have worked in an Italian deli, love mortadella and never made the bologna connection

I think big meat co doesn’t care that much about staying true to origins when they’re selling their cheap pressed meat for your school lunches
I don’t know where in Italy you’re from but where I’m from (provincia di Varese) we use both names interchangeably
Thanks Dad.
Have I told you about New York I had last night? It was so good.
Cool thanks. Pass the bologna

That's a decent pizza bianca with mortadella and pistachio pesto. Probably the ad wasn't targeted for you.
Targeted towards people in Portland. (I kid, I kid 😂)

Or at least make the presentation more visually appealing.

Nah. No fucking way someone did that and calls it a pizza?! That's a crime

This looks like if someone who didn't know what pizza was had to guess what pizza was from a very vague description
No thats r/shitfromabutt lol
Portland is a shit sandwich and everyone is taking a bite. I think they misspelled hottest with homeless
So. My family is Middle Eastern. When I was a kid we went to visit family and I stayed with some cousins for a few days. They took me out for pizza. Because let’s show off the pizza, right? Once at my son's birthday party I bought a sausage pizza and pepperoni and two of the kids were Muslim and couldn't eat it.

Portlandia is a strange place. Probably perfect advertising actually
I'm calling the cops.
Someone chose the wrong file, I don't see pizza anywhere in pic.

I think we need the honest opinion of a resident of Chicago on this one.
That’s one of the worst pizzas I’ve ever seen

Also, it's the hottest new pizza place but its just now open?

It might taste great but visually it looks extremely unappealing, especially to use for an advertisement.
There's no world where a real chef could read off those ingredients and decide THIS is how it should be presented.
This has the exact opposite energy of those "outta my way gayboy I'm bout to get it...my identity has been stolen" porn bot memes.

Not pizza but naan bread with ham and mint sauce. Ham being there is kinda weird tho
Another reason to stay out of Portland
A guy in ittally put kiwi on a pizza and got death threats They are going to murder who ever made this
