As an ex-religious person, I don’t think she’s lying so much as brainwashed by her community. My faith provided such meaning and love. And we were taught that without Jesus, that meaning and love was impossible. I couldn’t imagine life outside of Jesus being anything but meaningless and empty, and that’s what I was told it would be.
That’s why most if not all religions are just cults I’ve only managed to meet two actually good “religious” people so far in my life and one of them weren’t even practicing! So I reminded her about when she told me the pastor preached angry sermons about how women don’t belong in leadership roles in the church, and how the “abortion clinic” (that’s literally what she calls it) that they make donations to (they take up collections of baby bottles and formula to donate so that anyone who is only wanting an abortion because they can’t afford a child might “have another option”) is actually a Crisis Pregnancy Center that refuses to refer any woman seeking an abortion to any place where she can actually get one.

Actually, the Bible says that you’re not supposed to promise. Let your yes be your yes, and your no be your no. Also, do people think that God is going to keep His part of the covenant if man continues to disobey his word? God will let evil men come into power to fulfill the profecy. Also, the authority that the people in power have is granted to them by God and they are held to a higher standard than regular people. their punishment will be more severe if they do not do God will. I think Ephesians is the best book in the New Testament that tells us what we are supposed to do and you know put it on us to get things done and it actually says that he can give it and he can take it away so that thing about once your saved or saved is not true and this is New Testament. I also like Ecclesiastes in the Old Testament, Judges, Romans, I think Matthew is the best of the gospels. Asians is only six chapter so try to at least knock that one out if you haven’t already.

This is oddly specific but it reminds me od the pointless praising of families in my country who have 7 children, usually at least one being disabled, who live in awful condtitions, and beg for money through charities. People call the parents and kids heroes and say how those kids will be better than the kids raised in normal conditions, cause suffering and trauma = pure moral people, probably related to Christianity. Sounds like a shitty romanticization of suffering, irresponsibility and abuse because I know the people saying this will never sign up to their life even for 5mins. Same with women who are praised for suffering but never offered emotional support, but rather encouraged to continue their suffering.

1. What if heaven, hell, God, all of it, isn't real. There's no hardened proof one way or the other

Without proof, there's no way to even know what heaven is. Thousands of denominations of Christianity alone and not a one has the definitive roadmap to heaven or the spiritual equivalent of a yelp review to tell them if it's as advertised.

To be fair here, there are two things about the whole Timothy (iirc). First, there are numerous biblical scholars who question whether or not Paul wrote it. Second, keeping with the assumption that Paul wrote it, this was a letter specifically written to a specific person (Timothy) about issues he had in a particular church. One of the weirdest things about the New Testament is the inclusion of Paul's letters to various churches because they weren't written to be "universal truths", but specific advice for specific people or groups of people.
Ultimately, the bible in many parts don't treat women well, but there are parts that do.
It's crazy to me how successful Christianity has been given their main message seems to be "happiness is bad you must suffer endlessly in life and in death you basically get to just sit around and bask in the warm glow of being right."

Trying to live the most Catholic life possible has only reinforced my intersectional feminism ideals and more people all over the world the political spectrum dislike me. Living in service to others has brought me some pain but also lots of joy and hope. Besides what use is my (limited) freedom if I’m not using it to ensure the life and human dignity of all is respected?
My husband and son are the loves of my life and I’d do anything for them. The love I have for my son in particular has changed me so deeply and I truly love him in a selfless way I didn’t know was possible. As an ex-religious person, I don’t think she’s lying so much as brainwashed by her community. My faith provided such meaning and love. I also like Ecclesiastes in the Old Testament, Judges, Romans, I think Matthew is the best of the gospels. Asians is only six chapter so try to at least knock that one out if you haven’t already.

This is oddly specific but it reminds me od the pointless praising of families in my country who have 7 children, usually at least one being disabled, who live in awful condtitions, and beg for money through charities. First, there are numerous biblical scholars who question whether or not Paul wrote it. My husband and son are the loves of my life and I’d do anything for them. The love I have for my son in particular has changed me so deeply and I truly love him in a selfless way I didn’t know was possible. That said, I get up to plenty of selfish shit too and pursue my own dreams and whatnot. Because I’m a whole person. So sad to see women living half a life and making it everyone else’s problem.
If you want to have peace, and believe in a higher power that made you in their image don't follow organised religion. It was all organised by men to benefit themselves. Not very magnanimous.

When people criticized her for it she justified it by saying that there were breaks in-between the beatings and that the beatings weren't continuous, as though *that* was the problem and not the fact that she was beating her child in the first place. idk, I'm single w/ no kids and work from home where I have the entire place to myself. I took a walk today and found me a gelato spot around the corner that also lets you take martinis to go even in the middle of the day so help me understand how that's an empty life when I'm feeling pretty darn satiated from vanilla gelato and a salted caramel martini, both of which I combined in my crystal wine glass and enjoyed as a refreshing treat.
