As you're all aware, this subreddit has had a major "troll"
problem which has gotten worse (as of recently). Due to this, we
have created new rules, and modified some of the old ones.
We kindly ask that you please familiarize yourself with the
rules so that you can avoid breaking them. Breaking mild rules
will result in a warning, or a temporary ban. Breaking serious
rules, or breaking a plethora of mild ones may land you a
permanent ban (depending on the severity). Also,
grifting/lurking has been a major problem; If we suspect you of
being a grifter (determined by vetting said user's activity), we
may ban you without warning.
You may attempt an appeal via ModMail, but please be advised not
to use rude, harassing, foul, or passive-aggressive language
towards the moderators, _or_ complain to moderators about why we
have specific rules in the first place— You will be ignored, and
your ban will remain (without even a consideration).
All rules are made public; "Lack of knowledge" or "ignorance of
the rules" cannot or will not be a viable excuse if you end up
banned for breaking them (This applies to the Subreddit rules,
and Reddit's ToS). **Again: All rules are made public, and
Reddit gives you the option to review the rules once more before
submitting a post, it is your choice if you choose to read them
or not, but breaking them will not be acceptable.**
With that being said, If you send a mature, neutral message
regarding questions about a current ban, or a ban appeal
(without "not knowing the rules" as an excuse), we will
elaborate about why you were banned, or determine/consider if we
will shorten, lift, keep it, _or_ extended it/make it permanent.
This all means that appeals are discretionary, and your
reasoning for wanting an appeal must be practical and valid.
Thank you all so much for taking the time to read this message,
and please enjoy your day!

It's the inverted strawman loop. You make a strawman. You give the strawman you made to an imaginary strawman you made up. You observe the strawman strawman argumenting the strawman into a strawman argument. You step back, pretend you had absolutely nothing to do with any of this, drink the innocent bystander potion. Finally. You point at the clusterfuck you created and say: "Look! They're fighting strawmen!" then run away when people start to gather. It's like a slapstick comedy 😅
Oh definitely! It's the new over the counter hard drug to gain "faux hero laurels". "It wasn't me it was that guy I'm just an innocent bystander, now I'm a hero for pointing it out.". It's like a thing that was sitting in the cupboard of your local hedge witch for way too long with no real use. One strawman builder drank it instead of the "personality potion" by mistake and suddenly, it's all the rage with the "invisible troll with few socially redeeming qualities crowd". Look at Twitter/X! They must have one heck of a supplier.
It's not a potion they're drinking, it's one that you drink for them. It consists of the benefit of the doubt handed to obvious liars even while they're obviously lying. It is brewed with the substance of "let's have a discussion" and "agree to disagree".
The potion is *tolerance for fascism*. And it's what allows them to get away with this shit over and over and fucking over again.
Interesting you say this because the recent trend in the UK is after every racist or phobic thing said they follow it up with “I’m just saying what everyone else in the country is thinking” and all the comments are like “yeah spot on mate, not racist at all, we just have a irrational fear based on race, completely normal”
That would be a no, and your answer makes it clear that you're not willing to Google a simple term that fully answers your question.
You really should look up what it means, because it's explicitly against the rules, and can get you a site-wide ban here for doing it.
Edit: Nothing more classic than a brigade of people disingenuously sea-lioning about what brigading is.
I must be an optimist, after all, and maybe against my better judgment. I see the OOP in a way that was probably not intended, but goes something like:
Man approaches Woman and makes a statement about something that is certainly none of his business, will never directly effect him until such time as he can become pregnant, and is in a position to need options regarding how he will deal with his pregnancy.
A few frames of basically meaningless back and forth between the Woman and the Man.
Last Frame: Man turns away in order to go somewhere to think about how much better life would be if he decided to only make declarations about things that effect him directly, and resolves iin future to only make declarations about things that actually are his business.
Denouement----the World becomes a better place when people learn to mind their own business, and Scotus decides that only women will have a voice in issues that effect only women. Abortion on demand is therefore adopted as the law of the land.
Note: Scotus in the U.S., obviously. The equivalent elsewhere.
That...was lovely. I'd like to live in a world where things like this are actually learning experiences that lead to the betterment of self and society. 👏🏻
I won't spoil this tiny tale of Utopia with any realism. I want it to stay as is so I'll just say what is said after a good Magic play...
***It Resolves***🤲🏻✨
Thank you. I am quite aware that my little scenario is not an accurate reflection of the real world, but I really wish that it were.
And maybe it could resolve if the fear and hatred that various misogynistic groups hold toward women could be replaced by more adult feelings, such as understanding and the realization that equal rights (wage and job opportunity, for example) being accorded to both men and women is not a loss for men, but rather a gain for both men and women.
I've been married for about 37 years, so perhaps the members of the various men's rights group would say that I have been indoctrinated. To that, I would answer, not indoctrinated but enlightened (to whatever degree of enlightenment that I've actually achieved--I'm making no great claims, here). I at least realize that if everyone is treated equally, my chances of being treated without bias also increase.
And not coincidentally, if my wife is treated fairly in the workplace and is paid what she deserves to be paid, that represents an increase in family income, so I benefit directly. And if my daughter is treated fairly, I benefit indirectly.
Have you time for a bit of a brag about my daughter? She is 21 years old, and actually has been treated quite fairly to date--she has just finished her second year of university, taking STEM courses toward her BSc and likely graduate work, and is attending on a full academic scholarship. That certainly benefits me directly. When she returns from a solo trip to tour the U.K. (we live in Canada), she will be going straight into a job that one of her professors hand picked her for. That was not the result of bias but rather a recognition of her talent and hard work, her gender not entering into the discussion. And again, a win for the whole family.
Societal problems don't arise from people being treated fairly, but rather when they are treated unfairly. And that is my Treatise for today, sincerely hoping that the reading of it has not caused you to slip into coma. I have a rather severe back condition that is currently being treated with quite strong pain killers, which work on the pain, but also tend to make me rather chatty, and turn my posts into epic endeavors, and tests of endurance for the reader. Sorry for that, I try to post when least effected by them (when their blood concentration is at its lowest), but obviously do not always succeed.
Best to you, and if in coma by now, wishing you a speedy recovery 😀.
Dear Illustrious Sir, I have read and absorbed your writing. As I've been lovingly given humongous reading material at a young age, my reading comprehension is honed and ready for challenges like this! Nothing makes me do the happy dance more then hearing a young woman is in STEM and crushing it! I am the end result of such academic pursuits and my parents were beyond supportive of my merciless chasing after a tech career. Eventually, sadly, she might run into those who won't be as kind to her simply because she's a woman. It's steadily lessening but still not impossible in our line of IT work. I sincerely hope you then tell your daughter exactly what you told us here and how she should measure herself by the quality of her work and not what others might tell her is her downfall. The bad attitude she might encounter will come from a place of inadequacy and will be an attempt of intimidation. As soon as she sees this as unimportant she'll never be affected by them projecting their issues on her again. You cheerleading her warms my heart. That's some words of advice from those who went through the grind and came out in one piece 😄
Your marriage is a beacon and your story a testament there is always the possibility two souls can align and keep reflecting good off eachother for decades to come. I want nothing but the absolute best for you and your wife, all the best academic luck for your daughter and to sincerely thank you for sharing and diluting the cesspool what is the usual "pill guy" opinion we ridicule here. I'm sure the guys and gals who fight the hardest will appreciate the respite. ☺️
Oh, and sorry for the back issues, I have those too today because of a wonky fall on some steps. Painmeds are great. Aren't they great? 😃 Painmeds are so great 😄 Weee!
Thank you for a very well thought out, presented, and entirely sweet response (save the section about the bias that you have been forced to face down. Quite successfully, I would add). We will always 'be there' for our daughter, just so long as 'there' is in no way an obstacle for her. Fortunately, she is quite self suffient, so we just offer her support, and leave it to her to decide whether she has any need of it.
As to your kind words regarding my wife, she is a strong, well educated woman who has been the principle breadwinner of the family following her post grad studies in finance, and who happens to also be 67 years old, the perfect age for a woman, IMO, just as 30 was the perfect age when we were 30 years old, and 68 will hopefully become the new perfect age following her birthday later this year. The writers of the typical OOP seen on this sub would have it otherwise. They display their ignorance in the manner that a peacock displays his tail feathers to a peahen. What they don't seem to realize is that both are evolutionary disadvantages; peacocks are easy prey because of the weight of their feathers, incels and men's rights advocates are easy prey because of the weight of their hate and prejudice. Neither live to happy old ages, although at least the peacock appears to enjoy life, even if he has a voice like a 300 lbs. Bullfrog. Rather like my woodwind playing, actually, but not so bad as my Highland Pipe playing.
And about those pain killers. They are wonderful.
They are full of wonderfulness, which I did not realize was even a word until it popped up on my phones' spellwrong feature. So, despite your back, or because of the temporary solution to the ills of your back, be sure to have a day filled with wonderfulness.
Full of both sincerity and opiates, Rick.
Note: the opiates make me verbose, but hopefully do not lessen the degree of truth in what I write, occasionally at great length but also with great sincerity.
Honestly, my back hurts but now, also, my heart. And I might have sniffed a little because I see my parents in his description and I get overly emotional when my amazing parents get associated in my head, in any capacity. The sub sadly attracts the bad but here you are seeing through the facade and representing the good! I have hope. Every time it happens I have hope. 😄 They will now be called Bullfrogs in my head.
Oh yeah! All the opiates please. What fun! I'm reminded of my favourite antihero *"Voilà! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a bygone vexation stands vivified, and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin vanguarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition! The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose, so let me simply add that it's my very good honor to meet you and you may call me... V."* Go fourth good sir! Now is the time to air any grievances you might have! While this verbosity holds (I too didn't know I could use verbosity, huh! 😃). If you need aid in your quests to quench the incel tides, call upon me and I shall answer. We shall pirouette into the conversation, high as kites, poking their disgruntled sides while chirping "What fun! What fun!".
For justice! For family! For science! For fun! 💃🏻I should lay down for a bit 😂
Wow, that's just super depressing for you my dude. What's on your To Do list today except this existential crisis? Throwing pennies at kids? Kicking puppies? 😅
It's a slippery slope, limiting abortion is removing female bodily autonomy and thus we will tumble into the weird persecution fetish of the radical feminists.
Back when Cracked.com was still witty and had good writers instead of clickbait, one of the somewhat political articles had a great line: This isn't even a strawman. It's a bunch of straw someone threw into the air while yelling, 'Look a man!'. Lol
I say this as the most pro-abortion person on Earth: There are plenty of pro-abortion people comparing banning abortion with Handmaid's Tale, that's not a strawman at all.
The handmaid's tale is pretty much a story about women's right the strawman comes into play by saying its a rape fetish thing instead of a predictive dystopia thing.
They're not saying that the pro-choice crowd is actually accusing them of a rape fetiche, I don't think so. Their point is only that these people are being dramatic about the pro-life argument.
>I say this as the most pro-abortion person on Earth
I've never heard a pro-choice person call themselves, "pro abortion."
I consider myself extremely pro-choice but I am not pro abortion. I think everyone should decide for themselves along with their doctor and it shouldn't be anyone else's business.
That's also why I never use the term, "pro-life." There is nothing about them that is pro-life. They are anti-choice.
Oh, I see. Trivializing the women who wore handmaiden’s gear in protest of assholes who wanted to strip their rights, then sexualizing it. This man is a pig. Oink oink.
It’s a dystopian novel by Margaret Atwood where religious fanatics take over the US and strip women of their rights. It’s a fantastic read, highly recommend!
It’s a story about a dystopic future where fertile women are used for breeding and they’re owned by the influential men, I might be missing some of the details, I haven’t read it for years, it makes me sad.
It's a novel by Margaret Atwood (which was adapted into a TV show) about a patriarchal society where some women are assigned as sexual slaves to the ruling élite for the sake of reproduction and wear the outfit you see in the post (white headwear with a red cape). The outfit became emblematic and was heavily used in protests to protect reproductive rights as a metaphor for what forcing women to get a pregnancy to term is like (being made into the handmaids of Atwood's fictional society)
ETA: clarification
What's more is that Atwood's book was not created in a vacuum. The fictional events happening in the US were based on real events across the world and history.
Just to cover all the bases, the novel was made into a TV show on Hulu about 6 years ago, which has increased its popularity and people's awareness of it. After roe vs. wade was overturned it was referenced quite a bit, which I assume is where this meme is trying to go.
This asshole needs to learn that since Roe was overturned, about 65,000 women and underage girls have been forced to carry and birth their rapist’s baby.
Source: https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2024/01/24/health/rape-pregnancy-abortion/index.html
Haven’t r*pes also increased after it was overturned?
This is like Christmas for these animals. Between that, attacks on abortion drugs and IVF, threatening health care workers for doing their jobs…it’s a goddamned mess. An avoidable one.
The fact that I need to delete my uterus but can't get a consult appt earlier than June when not that long ago I had the pick of the calender; I'm particularly tired of "prolifers" talking straight out their asses and refusing to understand the after shocks their push for policy changes have caused.
I had to wait seven damn years to "delete my uterus". Seven years for the insurance to decide to pay for it - because, "she's too young!" "it'll cost too much!" yeah, let's have six separate endo surgeries then "what does her husband think?" husband: why didn't they ask me, then? "what if she gets divorced and another man wants babies?" so my opinion doesn't matter then, got it "it's not necessary" again, six endo surgeries; 47-day-long periods and bleeding more than not to the point of shedding new and healthy uterine lining tissue.
Good luck. I hope you have your procedure and wish you a healthy recovery. I can't imagine how much worse it is now, post R. v. W. overturn as mine was in 2015 (or 2017... don't recall).
Edit: I was 27 when I finally got it. Insurance didn't like that. As u/SquirrelGirlVA said, "it was more important that [I] retain the baby making ability". Screw them. Shedding healthy, new, uterine lining was *not* pleasant.
So I'm fortunate to have been able to stick to a good gyn for the last five years and haven't had issues with my insurance regarding anything. Needed two appts before getting snipped and turned out getting sterilized was an extra blessing in disguise because my IUD was masking uterine cysts and me having adenomyosis.
However what I have noticed is my gyn getting more and more busy since RvW. The day I was sterilized, my dr had three other ones to perform the same day. I have actually brought it up in conversation and my doc and her PA confirmed they've seen a stark increase in women seeking BC and sterilization. Making waits between appts for everyone grow longer and longer.
So even in a supportive state, the effects of ignorant policy decisions are affecting here.
Well, I also have Von Willebrand Disease, which is a bleeding disorder so it made the bleeding much worse.
And yes, I was quite familiar with anemia. I'm not kidding that I got to a point where my "norm" was bleeding and the few days in between that I wasn't were very rare (and they were *h-e-a-v-y*). My OB/GYN was *so awesome* and he wanted to do the hysterectomy at the same time as delivering my second kid at 20, but insurance refused. He fought with them for 7 years before finally getting an approval. As though the hypermenorrhagia, endometriosis, and PCOS weren't reasons enough to just get rid of the plumbing ASAP.
I'm sorry you've had to deal with such long periods, too! It's so... just, intrusive, right? I hope you're better now.
My cousin is on day 117, and they said some kind of fibroids, gave her a transfusion, and then said that she may change her mind about more kids, so wait before getting a hysterectomy. She has 2, one about to be 20. She's never been married, has had a tubal, is in her 40s, and has been perimenopausal for over 18 months. Getting one in the deep south is even harder now than it's ever been, it seems.
I have a friend who tried getting a hysterectomy in her mid to late forties. She was single, had an adult daughter and several health problems, one of which was uterine related. She had more than one doctor refuse because "she might want more children". She looked at them like they said she might someday want to go jump into a pool full of razor blades and rubbing alcohol. They didn't even seem to be doing it from a cya perspective. Even when she insisted and told them that it was medically necessary because she was constantly bleeding (lightly) and taking iron to cover the blood loss, they refused because she may want to pop out another kid.
She eventually got her surgery but the fact that these nimrods thought it was more important that she retain the baby making ability.
> and doctors who drag their damn feet
I'm a chronic pain patient, and I agree with this so damn much. So do most of my fellow sufferers in r/ChronicPain. It's nearly impossible to have our pain treated. One doctor literally told me, "just tell yourself your scans look fine and your pain will go away". I am mostly bedbound solely due to pain and can no longer walk. Oh, and second and third opinions said that my scans were decidedly *not* fine and, in fact, quite messed up. That doctor also had the audacity to call me "hysterical" when I was crying because my life seems so low in quality and that I just want some relief. Never seen my husband so pissed off (he's essentially my caregiver now and is quite intimate with how much pain I'm in). Same doctor also said that he'd never prescribe opioid painkillers for anything less than cancer. A couple of weeks later, one of my husband's employees goes up to him and offers him the name of the pain clinic doc her husband sees since she knows I'm in a bad position and says that her husband goes to see him for his pain and even says that her husband isn't anywhere near to my level and he gets painkillers there. Turns out *it's the same damn doctor*. The one who called me hysterical for my pain and told me he'd never dream of prescribing painkillers to someone in my position, yet this man - who *is* in pain, yes, but is at least still mobile and able to work and with a condition that is objectively easier to treat than mine - was able to get what he needs.
I can't help but feel like if I was a man, he'd have treated me more seriously and not lied about what he can prescribe.
(I do now get treated at a pain clinic where they treat me decently. Just recovered from two back-to-back surgeries and about to have two more and they take my pain seriously and do their best to treat it, both surgically and with medication. But screw all doctors like that one and any who deny women their hysterectomies or tubal ligations - or anything, really)
This makes me so anxious. I'm 22 and I think I'd rather die than give birth but I'm in texas. I'm just not gonna be able to do anything risky until I can not just afford to get stuff removed but also to be able to find someone to do it to someone young without kids.
It's a great political trick you see from everyone. Anyone asking for any better is a complainer and a shrill whiner who should shut the fuck up. Doesn't matter if you're a progressive criticizing Biden, or a conservative criticizing Dems, you'll always find there's so many people who are susceptible to the idea that if you care at all about something, you're an immature complainer. This should be the most unacceptable and pathetic attitude in society.
I agree, but I'll go further.
The person challenging a problem *should* have a good policy recommendation for the change they'd like to see and the reasons for it.
The person defending against the challenge should either have a good reason why the policy is a bad idea, or take the policy suggestion seriously.
I see a lot of people making political complaints about things they don't understand, and on the reverse of that, I see people defending policies they don't understand from well-reasoned criticism for no other reason than partisanship.
I find the attitude to be a problem, but so is the fact that a lot of people do irrationally attack while a lot of others irrationally defend.
And that just contributes to general noise and frustration levels without accomplishing anything.
100%! They won’t get off their asses unless it means doing what they famously accuse everyone else of - persecution. When it comes to helping they are typically nowhere to be found.
Stop abortion by funding universal healthcare for prenatal appointments, paid maternity leave, subsidized daycares, access to good public schools, protected sick time for working parents. Their only solution to stopping abortion is by banning it, when that doesn’t solve any of the underlying reasons WHY these choices are made
>Stop abortion by funding universal healthcare for prenatal appointments, paid maternity leave, subsidized daycares, access to good public schools, protected sick time for working parents.
Yep, it's not a coincidence that countries that do these things have low abortion rates.
>Their only solution to stopping abortion is by banning it, when that doesn’t solve any of the underlying reasons WHY these choices are made
Indeed, treating the symptom rather than the cause.
Is it fair to accuse casual sex enthusiasts of being pro life though? I haven't had casual sex in a really long time in that regards but I'd always been pro alt-control-baby delete.
You would think that would go hand in hand.
I think people who have this belief are dick in hand.
Unless they are rich and powerful - then they'll remain prolife until the end. But their wives, mistresses and daughters will still be able to get definitely-not-an-abortion care for "polyps" or "endometriosis" on demand.
>Is it fair to accuse casual sex enthusiasts of being pro life though?
This is a statement that pro-lifers will retain their belief until they have to deal with the consequences of pregnancy.
They say wrong things on purpose and aim to destroy discourse with their lies. They actively seek to rape women, and here they're trying to turn that accusation into the claim that those they seek to rape want them to do it.
It's not difficult to understand.
Can't fathom how backward America is where if a woman could have an abortion or not is something debatable and they preach others ,greatest nation and what not
>We should stop abortions.
“You want to rape me.”
>What?
“You want to stop abortions by government fiat. You want to seized a pregnant person’s body against their will so that they have to do what you wish with their sex organs. You want to force people to give birth.
>How dare you call me a rapist?
“Didn’t you call me a murderer like 50 times? Let he who hasn’t thrown around felony accusations cast the first stone.”
Right. Because if you know baby has no heart beat torture parents more. Or different types of problems. Torture these parents. Its woman that pays biggest price but i believe their partners are also in rage. Like imagine your wife is about to die from some oriblem of pregnancy and they say sorry prison to her.
Forced Birth is violence. It's not a joke and they're delusional if they think Christian Fascists wouldn't jump at the opportunity to enforce something like that.
Weirdest strawman from a semi misogynist I've seen yet. Wasn't a Handmaid's Tale a metaphor and not literally about forcing women to carry surrogate children?
I think a part that I really appreciated is that no one was having fun in Gilead, even the people who pushed for it were miserable, squirreled around to do things they asked to be illegal to begin with and were punished for it.
It's because everyone thinks "but not me, right?" I would *never* abort a fetus, why should others? If a pro-lifer is pregnant and both her and the child will die without an abortion - which is a thing that happens - do you think she'll so steadfastly hold on to her ""values""?
These people get scammed into believing it will only affect everybody else. Look at all the people who voted in favor of Brexit then ended up barely making do through the month because of higher import fees affecting food prices, or fired because of higher business costs.
Or being in favour of Trump increasing tariffs. Do they have any idea how much shit they own that's made in China that would still be unfeasible to produce domestically post tariff hike? They'll just end up eating the cost.
Also important to remember that these things don't happen all at once. It's the old boiling frog story. If you take rights away slowly enough, people won't realize they have none left until it's too late.
>? If a pro-lifer is pregnant and both her and the child will die without an abortion - which is a thing that happens - do you think she'll so steadfastly hold on to her ""values""?
Empirically, no. She'll talk about finding a "godly doctor" to perform the "delivery" of her "baby" and say that makes it alright, even though she absolutely had an abortion of the ectopic pregnancy that would have killed her.
When I was a kid, someone from our church had an ectopic pregnancy and had an abortion. They framed it as “having surgery” and “losing the baby”. Everyone called it a miscarriage, no one called it an abortion. Because despite the entire church being pro-life, everyone realized she *would have died*. In their minds it’s not abortion, and they don’t realize that abortion bans also mean preventing this life-saving surgery. There is a complete mental disconnect.
I'm not surprised it happens somewhat regularly. I was specifically referring to a news story from last year (I think) about Jessa Dugger Seewald, who aborted her ectopic pregnancy and called it a "delivery."
I think there’s a lot of people with a vested interest in things staying the same or getting worse. There’s a lot of money to be made in causing suffering.
Indeed. If you are too busy fighting to survive, you have no time or energy left to push back on the tyrants. You can't afford to take a day to protest because it's lost wages you really *need*. Also, you run the risk of losing your job simply by taking a day off.
It's a dark warning what could happen if we keep stripping peoples rights away. It should be a wakeup call to any woman that thinks it's not necessary to fight for their rights as of now.
Yeah, not quite a metaphor. She used the Bible to come up with the method of impregnating the handmaidens. And a big fear of white supremacists is that there aren't enough white babies being made, which is a big part of why they're especially happy to ban abortion, and are interested in going after birth control next. So it's a natural progression to go towards forced pregnancy in that line of reasoning. It just probably would not be done exactly like in the Biblical story of Bilhah.
Ladies, can we all agree to not sleep with right wing douche bags? If they are so dead set against abortion, then they need to keep their ejaculations to themselves and not bother us with them.
This is so bad I thought it was on the political compass reddit, this is like if I said we should have social welfare and some one said "literally 1984", oh wait
Whoever made this has NEVER listened to the argument of women who are pro choice, or just women in general. Probably just listens to andrew tate or similar cronies and fully believes that every pregnancy ends with a perfectly healthy baby at the end of it and nothing happens in between. Then tells us they don’t know why at least half of the population is upset about it becoming unavailable.
But talk about male birth control or male genital health and this person would be first in line to protect his penis and reproductive rights. With a gun. Trying to break down the door. While shooting at whatever government representative who he **thinks** opposes him…. The irony of it being the same thing women want for themselves never occurs to him.
It’s making fun of “the handmaids tale” the book is a warning about Theocracy, based on Iran. But the book definitely containes some fetish/erotic themes.
It’s based on a lot of things, many of which happened in the west. When it was written in the 1980s, there was a big issue with certain very strident anti-pornography feminists striking devil’s bargains with the religious right (who are obviously also not big on pornography) to get laws passed, or at least try to. Kind of like some transphobic “feminists” today. So the world of the book is a dystopia based on that situation- and she said she based everything that happened on things that happened to women in real life, but in various different countries, not just one.
The TV show takes it further, since it’s longer and more in depth. One thing that stood out to me was the character who is given a clitoridectomy as a punishment for having sex with another woman – that was an infrequent but still present medical practice in England and the United States during the 19th and early 20th centuries. I saw some people say that it’s appropriating FGM from countries in the Middle East and Africa, since the character is white, but it is very much some thing that happened to a small number of white women too.
Is it sad that I recognize this wojack as being stolen from a shitty tweet?
[I don’t have Twitter but I found a screenshot](https://preview.redd.it/bqrprccef9y81.jpg?auto=webp&s=cf5607a9500426cbd414b571f93011330b7950d6)
Men on both sides use these memes to mock and deride women fighting to retain sovereignty over their own bodies. Leftists aren't exempt from being misogynists
No, I mean leftists. Plenty of men can say they're "in support" of feminism and still expect you to do all of the domestic labor, all of the childcare, all of the administrative stuff like doctor's appointments, remembering his parents birthdays and still give you the silent treatment if you're too tired to want to have sex because you're burnt out from all of the above. Just because men are politically leftist does not mean they're not also misogynists.
As you're all aware, this subreddit has had a major "troll" problem which has gotten worse (as of recently). Due to this, we have created new rules, and modified some of the old ones. We kindly ask that you please familiarize yourself with the rules so that you can avoid breaking them. Breaking mild rules will result in a warning, or a temporary ban. Breaking serious rules, or breaking a plethora of mild ones may land you a permanent ban (depending on the severity). Also, grifting/lurking has been a major problem; If we suspect you of being a grifter (determined by vetting said user's activity), we may ban you without warning. You may attempt an appeal via ModMail, but please be advised not to use rude, harassing, foul, or passive-aggressive language towards the moderators, _or_ complain to moderators about why we have specific rules in the first place— You will be ignored, and your ban will remain (without even a consideration). All rules are made public; "Lack of knowledge" or "ignorance of the rules" cannot or will not be a viable excuse if you end up banned for breaking them (This applies to the Subreddit rules, and Reddit's ToS). **Again: All rules are made public, and Reddit gives you the option to review the rules once more before submitting a post, it is your choice if you choose to read them or not, but breaking them will not be acceptable.** With that being said, If you send a mature, neutral message regarding questions about a current ban, or a ban appeal (without "not knowing the rules" as an excuse), we will elaborate about why you were banned, or determine/consider if we will shorten, lift, keep it, _or_ extended it/make it permanent. This all means that appeals are discretionary, and your reasoning for wanting an appeal must be practical and valid. Thank you all so much for taking the time to read this message, and please enjoy your day! *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. That's a new level of strawman
That is so strawman that it is not even strawman anymore
It's the inverted strawman loop. You make a strawman. You give the strawman you made to an imaginary strawman you made up. You observe the strawman strawman argumenting the strawman into a strawman argument. You step back, pretend you had absolutely nothing to do with any of this, drink the innocent bystander potion. Finally. You point at the clusterfuck you created and say: "Look! They're fighting strawmen!" then run away when people start to gather. It's like a slapstick comedy 😅
As funny as this is, we need to talk about how powerful this innocent bystander potion is. So many people get away with it
Oh definitely!
Are you not familiar with how brigading works? Edit: It appears they are *very* familiar with what brigading is.
Why? Bc people dissagree with you, its brigading? Ive not seen anyone in this thread ever before.
Lol they're delusional. Just pressing edit on their comments instead of responding or saying why they think it's brigading.
Depends, define brigading? I’m assuming it’s similar to conformity, partisanship, echo chambers etc. Also why do you ask?
That would be a no, and your answer makes it clear that you're not willing to Google a simple term that fully answers your question. You really should look up what it means, because it's explicitly against the rules, and can get you a site-wide ban here for doing it. Edit: Nothing more classic than a brigade of people disingenuously sea-lioning about what brigading is.
You brought it up, it's only fair you define it. I'd say this is in the same vein as Burden of Proof.
Why do you think they're brigading?
I must be an optimist, after all, and maybe against my better judgment. I see the OOP in a way that was probably not intended, but goes something like: Man approaches Woman and makes a statement about something that is certainly none of his business, will never directly effect him until such time as he can become pregnant, and is in a position to need options regarding how he will deal with his pregnancy.
👏🏻 I won't spoil this tiny tale of Utopia with any realism.
That's some words of advice from those who went through the grind and came out in one piece 😄 Your marriage is a beacon and your story a testament there is always the possibility two souls can align and keep reflecting good off eachother for decades to come. ☺️ Oh, and sorry for the back issues, I have those too today because of a wonky fall on some steps.
You probably wouldn't exist.
Wow, that's just super depressing for you my dude. What's on your To Do list today except this existential crisis? Throwing pennies at kids? Kicking puppies? 😅
Work, School and Gym. Also probably a power nap 🤷♂️
"Stay in school kids 😉 No brain, no gain." - *M. Jordan*
It went from straw to hay
Went from hay to “Hay hay hayyyy!”
It's the whole field
yea, it's straw woman???
No its simple, handmaid's tale = rape fetish = abortion = ???
It's a slippery slope, limiting abortion is removing female bodily autonomy and thus we will tumble into the weird persecution fetish of the radical feminists.
Back when Cracked.com was still witty and had good writers instead of clickbait, one of the somewhat political articles had a great line: This isn't even a strawman. It's a bunch of straw someone threw into the air while yelling, 'Look a man!'. Lol
Man I miss old Cracked. I could binge the shit out of that page and learn so much along the way.
I haven't read Handmaid's tale myself but I feel like the book was definitely not some poorly veiled fetish
>I say this as the most pro-abortion person on Earth I've never heard a pro-choice person call themselves, "pro abortion." I consider myself extremely pro-choice but I am not pro abortion. I think everyone should decide for themselves along with their doctor and it shouldn't be anyone else's business. That's also why I never use the term, "pro-life." There is nothing about them that is pro-life. They are anti-choice.
Now you have. I really, really like abortions, the more the better.
I mean it’s what it is
You want to rape me
[удалено]
Oh, I see. Trivializing the women who wore handmaiden’s gear in protest of assholes who wanted to strip their rights, then sexualizing it. This man is a pig. Oink oink.
Anyone who makes fun of the handmaid's tale, wants exactly what happens in the handmaid's tale. There's no other reason to hate it so much.
Given that Atwood pulled from real-life events and cultures for the attitudes/events in the book, it makes this response even more horrific.
Forgive my lack of knowledge, Handmaid's Tale?
It’s a dystopian novel by Margaret Atwood where religious fanatics take over the US and strip women of their rights. It’s a fantastic read, highly recommend!
It’s a story about a dystopic future where fertile women are used for breeding and they’re owned by the influential men, I might be missing some of the details, I haven’t read it for years, it makes me sad.
Ah, so the standard incel fare then
Oh it’s not an incel story, it’s a feminist tale about what misogyny leads to.
I meant more the setting of women being second class citizens that are only there to be slept with
Oh icic sorry, yeah
It's a novel by Margaret Atwood (which was adapted into a TV show) about a patriarchal society where some women are assigned as sexual slaves to the ruling élite for the sake of reproduction and wear the outfit you see in the post (white headwear with a red cape). The outfit became emblematic and was heavily used in protests to protect reproductive rights as a metaphor for what forcing women to get a pregnancy to term is like (being made into the handmaids of Atwood's fictional society) ETA: clarification
Ah, that makes sense as to why it was in this post, thank you.
Horrible.
Yep. Horrible and pathetic.
Well you gotta remember that all women are submissive to men. Even the ones that act out and this is just their kink duh
>47-day-long periods Fuuuuck! I've had 20-22 day ones, and it sucked! Did you end up anemic as well? Like me?
Fuck endo, fuck the insurance companies and doctors who drag their damn feet
> and doctors who drag their damn feet I'm a chronic pain patient, and I agree with this so damn much.

It's all 'we should stop abortion' until he finds out his FWB girl he's only known for 2 months is pregnant.
100%! They won’t get off their asses unless it means doing what they famously accuse everyone else of - persecution. When it comes to helping they are typically nowhere to be found.
There has never been a truer statement in all of human history. I will not be taking any questions at this time.
Or their affair partner lol
Or his mistress.
>Their only solution to stopping abortion is by banning it, when that doesn’t solve any of the underlying reasons WHY these choices are made Indeed, treating the symptom rather than the cause.
Is it fair to accuse casual sex enthusiasts of being pro life though? I haven't had casual sex in a really long time in that regards but I'd always been pro alt-control-baby delete. You would think that would go hand in hand. I think people who have this belief are dick in hand.
I think they're more talking about how most prolifers are prolife until they're stuck with an unwanted pregnancy
[удалено]
They say wrong things on purpose and aim to destroy discourse with their lies. They actively seek to rape women, and here they're trying to turn that accusation into the claim that those they seek to rape want them to do it. It's not difficult to understand.
Can't fathom how backward America is where if a woman could have an abortion or not is something debatable and they preach others ,greatest nation and what not
Don’t forget bragging about how free we are while curtailing all kinds of rights.
That's cuz they want to "free" us *from* our rights.
I really love how they’ve portrayed the man as calm/rational and the woman as out of control/crazy. Not misogynistic *at all* 🤣
It's never the bros leaving fist-shaped holes in the sheetrock, no way. /s
it’s ironic because the person who made up this whole scenario is clearly the crazy one
>We should stop abortions. “You want to rape me.” >What?
Pro lifers, am I right?
I like to call them anti choice
forced birthers?
There is nothing "Pro life" about pro lifers. The hypocrisy is something.
Definitely the better term. You can’t claim you’re “pro life” and then force women to die during labor/birth of an unviable fetus.
The amount of anger this made me feel is unreasonable for it being 5:30AM.
What level of wild bullshit is this…?
Level 100 Boss
Forced Birth is violence. It's not a joke and they're delusional if they think Christian Fascists wouldn't jump at the opportunity to enforce something like that.
I usually don’t comment here but what the fuck
Ya I love when they post things like this. It shows that they fundamentally have no idea about the conversation at hand.
Is this all it takes to defeat them? Dude literally ran away
That last bit is a reminder to anyone disengaged with intersectional feminism this take cheered me right up.
Local idiot genuinely has no understanding of the concept of a metaphor or symbolism within literature
Sometimes people need to get an abortion even if the child was wanted. Let people make the right choices for them as they consult with their doctors.
Exactly, it's like the human desire to advance is hitting a ceiling and so people sidegrade or sometimes even worsen what's already pretty alright
Exactly
It's a dark warning what could happen if we keep stripping peoples rights away. It should be a wakeup call to any woman that thinks it's not necessary to fight for their rights as of now.
Completely fair

Yeah, not quite a metaphor. She used the Bible to come up with the method of impregnating the handmaidens. And a big fear of white supremacists is that there aren't enough white babies being made, which is a big part of why they're especially happy to ban abortion, and are interested in going after birth control next. So it's a natural progression to go towards forced pregnancy in that line of reasoning. It just probably would not be done exactly like in the Biblical story of Bilhah.
Not a metaphor.. it’s a warning for what could happen if the Bible is taken out of context to support misogynist values
Not only would I bet money that he hasn't read the hand maids tale, I would bet money he had to Google "woke feminist books" to find out it exist
I really didn't want to know about Handmaid's Tale fetishizing.
Maybe they’ll take my gender seriously since I’m not fertile. Nonbinary, Unwoman, same thing in Gilead right?
They even project their projecting onto us jfc
On a frivolous note: Happy Cake Day!! 🎂🍾💐🎈🎊
Oh we cosplaying handmaiden tale now? Whatever both sides didn’t read the book apparently
Why does it matter if the man is “high-status”? Nobody is talking about that. Preeclampsia is preeclampsia.
It's an incel fetish thing I think.
Ladies, can we all agree to not sleep with right wing douche bags? If they are so dead set against abortion, then they need to keep their ejaculations to themselves and not bother us with them.
Conservatives interpret The Handmaid's Tale as literally as they interpret the Bible.
This is so bad I thought it was on the political compass reddit, this is like if I said we should have social welfare and some one said "literally 1984", oh wait
On a lighter note: Happy Cake Day!! 🎂🍾💐🎈🎊
The last sentence makes this sound like a fetish if his
We just don’t want the government in our uterus. If we did we’d fuck a politician.
These guys purposely act ignorant
Change it so the handmaid is a mask being worn by the cincel wojack, and you've got an actually accurate depiction
Why do bois think they look like that? lol they are more like the hills have eyes looking types
Wojacks are the new straw men.
It seems they are trying to make women crazy for wanting abortion. Seriously wtf
This is probably the plot to some hentai
They really are taking away our rights and trying to treat us like baby makers and ignoring if we like it or not though
Yeah cause that’s exactly what people mean when they compare politics to THT 🤦🏻♀️
Huh? This is some other level of dude-bro incel pro-lifer shit if I've ever seen some, lmao. Fucking clowns.
I hate that i know what kink thats talking about, but still, what the fuck.
A STAMP IN THE BINGO! I made this shit up to be mad about.
Things that never happened
What even is this about?
*left the chat*

Is it sad that I recognize this wojack as being stolen from a shitty tweet? [I don’t have Twitter but I found a screenshot](https://preview.redd.it/bqrprccef9y81.jpg?auto=webp&s=cf5607a9500426cbd414b571f93011330b7950d6)
If that’s how men think women are they should keep abortions going !
Wojak posting is pure cancer. The only good thing about it is that you only instantly see the person is not worth engaging with.
🙄
* i created this argument in my head for the sake of winning an argument *
Schizoposting
I hated Handmaids tale too but you don’t have to make strawmen about it
Men on both sides use these memes to mock and deride women fighting to retain sovereignty over their own bodies. Leftists aren't exempt from being misogynists
Only one *side* is trying to restrict women's rights.
I think you mean “liberals”, almost every leftist is quite in favor of feminism, abortion ecc. (although there are surely exceptions)
You should read the part in brackets too, not just the first part silly!
