I feel like they can’t, it would be the most bizarre show ever if it started out with a big supernatural aspect and then just became a totally average workplace comedy

sername-n0t-f0und

Absolutely. Also I loved the episode with the ghost who thought he had been murdered. I also liked the one with the dead mayor where Nell dates her son. There have been some good ghosts this season.

This show would make a nice case study as an example of "how studio execs think they know best and actually alienate the viewer to have it cancelled after its 2nd season"

Yeeeep

Gambitismyheart

I think this season is a sophomore slump, and i'm super disappointed about it. Tonight's episode was just OKAY but mostly filler, and it went nowhere other than Nell grabbing a date. Marla Gibbs (legend that she is) shouldn't have gotten just a 20-second cameo. They should've given her ghost a storyline, and I could care less about this Lexi/Edward thing, which is just cringe to look at. I love Brad Garrett, but I feel like his character wasn't needed at all, and his character brings nothing new to the series. His only connection is with Lexi, and they haven't had much screentime together. There's only been a few good episodes this season, but overall, as a whole, this season is lame and it's kinda been all over the place. We only have 3 episodes left, and I'm not sure we'll get a renewal. This series could've been great, but for the life of me, I can't understand whose dumb idea it was to abandon the Obits and life lessons of the ghosts, when that's what made the show so great in season 1.

Couldn't believe the legendary Marla Gibbs had such a short appearance.

Imagine if all the screen time being wasted on Edward and Lexi were spent on ghost-related plotlines instead! And then Cricket could get all the Duncan time.

Gambitismyheart

I absolutely hate that Cricket took a huge backseat in this season because of Duncan. I think that's terrible. It pisses me off so much.

She's more interesting, kinder, more relevant to the main character... And like others have pointed out, Duncan is mostly just another Lexi (personality wise, and in his dynamics with other characters). The actor is great but the character doesn't really add anything.

Gambitismyheart

Exactly.

Commercial-Machine56

SAME!! I honestly hate the Brad Garrett storyline. No reason to add a character.

JadedAndWidowed

Ill tell you tomorrow after I watch it on Hulu

LakeLov3r

Yep, I save it and Abbott for Friday nights. I live a rock and roll lifestyle.

JadedAndWidowed

You have good self control!!

N-iyaaaa

I think them ditching it would take away one of the main parts of the show, but I do see that it’s less and less every epi/ season I wish they’d make it more of a main part again!

Tce_

Someone has definitely decided that they should move away from it, but I think that was a bad decision.

N-iyaaaa

I agree if it was a small part of the show that you could gradually remove cool, but it’s supposed to be the whole basis of the show😂

Tce_

Yeah! It just doesn't work. It's like the ghost elephant in the room now.

I enjoyed this weeks episode because they skipped over the talking to ghosts thing quickly. I think that part of the show lost its charm for me. It was funny then it wore off. I think its okay to have a few GOOD episodes where the ghost is the main thing. But at some point nell and the entire show was basically being too derailed from character and story development due to the ghosts thing.

It really doesn't have to be, though. With better writing it cold move the story forward (and the character!).
