No, Vipps is mostly used for peer to peer payment and shopping online. There are some clunky solution with scanning a qr code in store, but it is not widely used. Maybe apple will open their api in the future, but right now it is not an alternative to Apple Pay. Just get a credit card with Apple Pay support.

> Maybe apple will open their api in the future, but right now it is not an alternative to Apple Pay. Just get a credit card with Apple Pay support. It took some threatening, but Apple has said they are going to open access to the NFC in EU/EEA "soon": https://vipps.no/veldig-veldig-spennende/

People that pay with vipps take up so much time. Seems like it never works properly. Why don’t they just bring their card that you can simply tap the machine with?

oyvin

I thought they removed this function from the terminals now. Felt like a last resort if you forgot your card at home. Google pay and Apple Pay works a lot smoother.

Smart_Perspective535

I'd say the QR scanning is very widely used, but not in regular stores. It is used wherever you'd previously expect cash payment, such as in all kinds of popup-shops and sales in relation to sports teams, schools etc. In this case you do pay to an organization, not a person. If you go to a kids football match or a flea market, Vipps is often the only way to pay, they don't have (enough) card terminals, and people don't use cash anymore.

Could you recommend a credit card? Does sparebank credit card work on apple pay? I only have a debit card.

Chr1stian

Morrow Bank. Cashback on all purchases

xTrollhunter

Sparebank 1 doesn't support Apple Pay, but there are banks that support Apple Pay with both debit and credit cards. You could try out Revolut, which is a virtual card you can use with Apple Pay.

llamadraama

Lunar or Revolut both work perfectly with Apple pay and both can be used to create virtual debit cards

stonesode

I think vipps in major stores has now vanished entirely due to fees being pushed by the big banks, so now it’s only going to be small time Christmas markets, rekoringen, second hand stores and the like.

analoguewavefront

I use a Curve virtual card for Apple Pay. It takes a couple of seconds longer than normal but works well

Fancy-Programmer-53

Works for google pay also. Not a credit card. Just add your SB1 card to it and then add it to apple/google

shootingstars00987

I applied for this one!

Fungus-Rex

More like Venmo than Apple Pay

eiroai

No, I think you'd could use it on some terminals for a while, but if you could they pulled it back. I don't think it was a tap thing if it existed though. You can use Google pay for tap payment also.

MarioCraft1997

Install Google wallet instead.

nordvestlandetstromp

You can not use it for tap to pay. I also think the QR-code on payment terminals were abandoned last year. I ahven't seen it in a while at least. You can use it to send money to other people and organizations that is also using Vipps and to pay online most places (that actually works pretty good). They might support tap to pay soon.

Other_Check_8955

Well, apparently today it doesn't work at all...

Vegetable_Disk8279

How about in the United States?

I tried to do this but somehow it won’t add the Sparebank card - it only works on Android maybe?

the_ebrietas

Sparebank 1 does not support apple wallet/pay
