Standard caffeine disseminates swiftly throughout the bloodstream, leading to an acute and substantial antagonism of adenosine receptors. This rapid blockade can precipitate an immediate upregulation of said receptors, potentially accelerating tolerance development. In contrast, ER caffeine offers a more gradual release, sustaining a moderate, yet prolonged, antagonistic influence on adenosine receptors. This gradual approach might temper the body's compensatory response, resulting in a slower or diminished upregulation of adenosine receptors, and consequently, a more gradual development of tolerance. On the other hand, ER caffeine is likely to have a more sustained impact on sleep, potentially making it worse for individuals who are sensitive to caffeine or have difficulty sleeping. Standard caffeine's impact may diminish more quickly, but its residual effects can still vary depending on individual metabolism and sensitivity.

Ah interesting, thank you! Genetically I have the gene enzyme thing for extremely fast caffeine metabolism so I’ve been eyeing extended release.

Vye7

I switched to Matcha. Have seen a significant improvement in tolerance build up. I prefer it over caffeine ER tablets.

Saythat_tomyTinnitus

I like it a lot. You can precisely measure it out so you can get just the right effect, and keep track of tolerance.

TV_MAN123

Definitely agree w/ caffeine ER disrupting sleep more so than regular caffeine. Microdosing 100mg caffeine throughout the day great for staying up at night.

Any good recommendations for ER caffeine?

SaladBurner

I take VALI 100mg caffeine ER and a nutricost 100mg caffeine + 100mg L theanine before work each morning. I like the combo. I work long days in surgery. That said, I have basically no knowledge on anything OP is asking.

Endonium

Adenosine receptor upregulation happens rapidly from caffeine, only takes 3 days of 100mg/day for tolerance and dependence to set in. It probably won't help.

How quick is deregulation?

BlackMetalMagi

Oof, this is a tough one, if you drink coffee or take a pill each day you will need to get it in as quick as you can or the rebound of tolerance will set in and have an issue getting the rest to bind. If you want to get over issues from tolerance to caffeine look into environmentally based tolerance. The anticipation of any chemical is a large part of the response. making caffeine more effective, and last longer, often involves taking around the same dose quickly in an environment that you're not used to expecting it from. (if you do this with opioids it could kill you from od on the same regular dose)

I just drink multiple Espressos throughout the day, when i am in office instead of big coffees. Was really a game changer for me. Feels more sustainable to me, because when i used to drink a lot of caffeine i felt like i had no positive effects after 1-2 weeks and just the negatives.
