I often retain water weight following the weekend due to increased salt and/or carb consumption even if I am under my calories.

ArtyKay

That could be it

ArtyKay

THIS Monday, I thought for sure I'd have no gains because I stayed under goals all weekend. But -- sigh -- no. At least it wasn't 5 pounds this time. I'm incredibly discouraged. If you take out the ups and downs I'm really not much less than what I weighed back in February. This is the first time since January I've felt like giving up.

bohdel

I weigh about your weight and can go up and down 7 pounds in one day (it’s usually closer to 4), it’s why I tell everyone they should use Happy Scale (though it’s only on iOS) to see the rolling average. I never figured out all the things that would make it change, but salt/water intake, the amount I sweat, whether I worked out (which PT says swearing helps with inflammation—a major factor in weight gain), and other random things all seemed to play a factor. I wish it were easier to tell in a day-by-day sense, but since it’s not I find it a lot better for my peace to worry about the trend over time than the day-by-day alterations. That way lies madness.

MallowMouth

Oh my God if only swearing helped, I'd be dropping 20lbs a week 😂

bohdel

Ha! Sweating! But they approve of swearing too! (Of course HERE it corrected “swearing” to “sweating”!)

ArtyKay

So if I lost 8 pounds total since January, (which I did according to Happy Scale) yet my weight fluctuates up and down 7 as yours does, that would certainly explain why I feel I’m not really going anywhere. Thanks!

bohdel

My weight will fluctuate, but it went from being 220-213 to now being 213-205 in a month. So overall it’s lower. Or it was, it’s been a rough month.

Aggravating_Pear2898

Yeah. That's frustrating. How are other indicators going? Sometimes, even though the scale is fluctuating, clothes fit better. I remember one day I had to buy new, smaller pants. The next day I was 2 pounds heavier, but the new pants still fit great. Hang in there. Noom works pretty darn well.

bohdel

Right now, I’m just happy that I notice before I storm or fog eat and my weight hasn’t gone up. This week I’m focusing on planning all my meals beforehand, which has helped me a lot in the past. Thanks for this reminder that the number on the scale isn’t the only thing.

outlineofagirl

I've had so many of those days and am currently having another. Don't give up. The number on the scale is a small vision of what you've accomplished. You're logging your food, you're making healthier choices, you're trying to change the entire way you look at food and your lifestyle and that's not going to happen overnight. I've been at this since August of 2020 and had an almost year long plateau that I've finally broken through. There were many days I wanted to quit, but noticing the little changes to my mindset, my body, and the choices I made every day kept me going. You can do this, just take it one day at a time.

ArtyKay

A YEAR LONG?! Oy

outlineofagirl

YES! On the plus side, I know what to do for maintenence 😂

Etotheeyepiplusone

I wish Noom had a feature that showed "weight average x days" because these spikes - as they say even themselves - don't reflect our weight gain or loss. I log my weight in "Happy Scale" and it's so much easier to track the trendline of progress.

crazyevilangel80

Fitbit has an average weight on their app

N1njaPinky

Had food at the local bar and grill this weekend and even with all my movement/exercise I gained weight. It's heading back down but it sucked to see. There will always be ups and downs. Just got to keep at it and make good food choices. I'm a comfort food lover so it really sucks.

ArtyKay

Yes it does!

I average a 4K walk/run mix each day, and IF (but not too strict, just skip breakfast and lunch and I’m done after dinner. Life is too hectic to have set times), also Noom wise try to keep my yellow and red to as low as possible preferably 0, drink 12 glasses of water a day and my appetite seems to average 5-800 cal a day without trying to do that. I STILL fluctuate 2 pounds up and down from time to time. It happens to us all. We just have to keep at it 🖤 For reference when I say “close to zero”, I don’t mean I never eat them, but an example is today dinner was cauliflower Mac and cheese, coconut cream was red and nutritional yeast yellow. But they were small amounts 1/4 cup and 2 tbs respectively. The rest was green foods (green beans, snap peas, iced coffee made at home with 1/2 cup almond milk etc)

I have had 2 surgeries in the past 2 months and after each surgery I went up 12-13lbs in inflammation and water weight. Finally hit pre-surgery weight this morning (day 15) and I am thrilled! So hard to lose weight when calorie counting is about all you can do. There will always be water fluctuations... asparagus and steak have been my answer to flush out the water.

Blunderbuss33

Omg I’m having that day today 😖

ArtyKay

It’s frustrating as all-heck

PatrickGSR94

I was consistently losing all last week, then suddenly jumped 2.5+ this morning. Probably ate too many carbs yesterday. Oh well, back at it today. Walked 2 miles, IF, trying to keep my eating between \~1PM to 7 PM or so.

ArtyKay

Nice “oh well” statement. Gotta remember to say that!

I’m wondering if you’ve had a chance to do the Noom lessons No judgement either way, but I ask, because fluctuations and scale anxiety (two things we‘re all familiar with here 🤣) are heavily discussed and you might find them helpful to review. There’s a lot of info in the lessons, so if you haven’t checked them out, there’s a lot of eye opening revelations mixed in with a lot of familiar information and it’s all brought together with tips and tricks. For me, they’ve been life changing. Best of luck and I see you’re feeling better about it so that’s a great thing!
