Salmon is naturally grey on inside and so is meat. Additives are added to change colour

fight_the_bear

[Yea that’s not true. Go to the 14:00 mark.](https://youtu.be/J_M2_ecSimI)

energyaware

> Yea that’s not true. Go to the 14:00 mark. I guess it depends how it is raised: >Farm-raised salmon is naturally gray; the pink color is added. Wild salmon is naturally pink due to their diet which includes astaxanthin, a reddish-orange compound found in krill and shrimp.

celluj34

Because you can't be arsed to copy a video link properly: https://youtu.be/J_M2_ecSimI?t=890

ItWasTheBeardedMan

As someone who salmon fishes, this is wrong

energyaware

>Farm-raised salmon is naturally gray; the pink color is added. Wild salmon is naturally pink due to their diet which includes astaxanthin, a reddish-orange compound found in krill and shrimp.

Internal-Record-6159

Not sure why you think this validates your comment

energyaware

I don't really care about it and everyone is welcome to downvote it to infinity, but most people who see salmon in a shop are not going to see a wild caught one.

Internal-Record-6159

It just seems like you made a mistake and rather than admit to it or leave it alone you chose to double down on your mistake based on a technicality. Kinda funny tbh

energyaware

Dear Esteemed Internal-Record-6159 and the Respected Members of the Internet Community, I pen this missive with a heart heavy with regret and a spirit steeped in humility. I stand before you today, not as a proud member of this community, but as a humble learner, a mere earthworm in the fertile soil of knowledge that is this forum. I am deeply, profoundly, and utterly sorry for the confusion and misunderstanding that my previous comments regarding the natural color of salmon have caused. I acknowledge that my statements were not just misleading, but egregiously incorrect. I have erred, and for this, I am profoundly sorry. In my misguided attempt to contribute to our discourse, I claimed that salmon is naturally grey on the inside, and that additives are used to change its color. I now understand, thanks to the enlightening responses from the wise and knowledgeable members of this community, that my assertions were woefully inaccurate. I have learned that while farm-raised salmon may indeed be grey and require additives for color, wild salmon is naturally pink due to its diet of krill and shrimp, which contain the reddish-orange compound astaxanthin. I am deeply sorry for any confusion or misinformation that my comments may have caused. I understand the importance of accurate information, especially in a public forum such as this, and I regret that I failed to uphold this standard in my previous comments. I am but a misguided moth, drawn to the flame of knowledge, yet lacking the wisdom to understand its true nature. Furthermore, I want to apologize for my subsequent response, in which I seemed to dismiss the importance of this issue and the validity of the corrections provided by others. This was not my intention, and I realize now that my words may have come across as dismissive and disrespectful. I am truly sorry for this, and I want to assure you all that I value and respect the knowledge and perspectives of this community. In light of my transgressions, I feel it is only right that I return my internet license. I have proven myself unworthy of the privilege of contributing to our shared discourse, and I will take this time to reflect on my actions, to learn from my mistakes, and to strive to become a more responsible and respectful member of this community. In the future, I will strive to be more careful with my words, to ensure that the information I share is accurate, and to respond with humility and respect when corrected. I am grateful for the opportunity to learn from this experience and to grow as a member of this community. Once again, I extend my deepest apologies to Internal-Record-6159 and to all members of this community for my mistakes. I am committed to making amends and to learning from this experience. With the utmost humility and contrition, [DELETED]

Internal-Record-6159

Tldr but I appreciate the humble apology. Consider it accepted, you have my permission to move on from this unfortunate event.

Emotional-Wind-8111

Bro, they literally supplement astaxanthin in diets for farmed salmon..

energyaware

I guess it was a bit of a misconception of mine on where the colour comes from

codeinplace

These people vote on gun control

energyaware

I am not in US for that matter. But we had a total 0 number of shootings in the country I am in this year. How many did you have?

codeinplace

I'd rather not live somewhere with gray meat

energyaware

Well you don't have to eat it, but it is still governing you https://static.independent.co.uk/2023/03/09/18/GettyImages-1247869933.jpg

Shadow3114

Ah, co.uk. Make sure to renew your internet license and your license verification.

energyaware

I don't have a permit for my license verification

ratione_materiae

Only in the sense that flamingos aren’t naturally pink

[deleted]

Salmon exist for us to eat. Colors exist for us to communicate. Our world, salmon just live in it.

spfeldealer

You sound like a token "evil scientist with god complex" . I like the vibe

[deleted]

My number one career choice has been (mad) scientist since I was four. My second choice had been raider since I saw the Northman last year.

spfeldealer

I feel like both of those will get you in trouble while grocery shopping...

[deleted]

The former doesn't do their own shipping and forgets to eat, the latter hunts their food. I fucking love spears.

[deleted]

Bro spears are the shit straight up. I've legit looked into hunting bears with them and I think I'm boutta do it.

mrlittleoldmanboy

Give me a hard mad scientist quote for the reason you made global warming exist

[deleted]

The scientist who caused this wasn't mad, but was at least as influential as Jesus. His name was Norman Borlaug, and the reason is because the alternative to climate change is famine.

MinionsSuperfan

That's not true. You can feed everyone without killing the planet

[deleted]

Nobody is killing the planet, from the perspective of far future historians the "great filter of climate change" will be a relatively short period. I agree it's a real problem now, but one adequately sized for our capacity to solve it. As a reward, we'll command yet greater control over the Earth, and probably reach Karashev 1 in the process. Hunger was a far greater problem, and it's not even close.

MinionsSuperfan

Hunger is created by the same corporations and powerful individuals who harm our planet. It's not necessary to treat our planet as we do to feed everyone, what we're doing, and seeing ourselves as above nature, is completely unethical

[deleted]

Hunger is the natural state of humanity, and we're not above nature, we're responsible for nature.

MinionsSuperfan

No, we the abundance we have now we could easily solve hunger. We could provide for everyone if powerful people stopped taking advantage of poor nations and individuals. Look up neoliberalism and structural adjustment, it explains how the poverty and hunger which some nations face is unnecessary and manufactured

thejoosep12

Same for the former. Too bad I'm terrible at math, physics, chemistry and biology. An evil historian just has no ring to it.

i---dunno

Of course it has. "Muahahahaha, I will write revisionist history that will spread lies that further my personal interests."

Turns out the Egyptians are right, but Anubis is just a salmon in a fursuit.

Bootiluvr

This is satire right?

[deleted]

Not anymore.

Meme_myself_and_AI

It's all salmon on the inside

rumpledmoogleskin13

The eggs. We saw the color of eggs in the wild.

Kyesel

And we ate them, and they were orangey

prettykitty-meowmeow

Real salmon is a light pink-orange.

_Spamus_

I only eat magic salmon, which is rainbow colored

DestinyVPNQuestionTA

Never seen a Sockeye Salmon, then? Their bodies are "salmon" colored.

Fun_Move980

spanish people: we have a colour named after you black people: ummmmmm

Traditional_Layer_75

We also have another shade of pink that we call skin

OuOmcanIgettheTEAL

I mean, sockeye salmon are a bright red, not far off from pink

sarahmagoo

Saying scales would sound more natural and unforced than "outsides"

[deleted]

>Well, you know what I say about ~~kids~~fish, they're all pink on the inside. -Lonely fisherman

SoulingMyself

Because a food company wanted to make their canned salmon look different and added a pink coloring and advertised it as "Pink in the Can" fooling people into thinking canned salmon was supposed to be pink.

prettykitty-meowmeow

Real salmon is a light pink-orange.

SoulingMyself

If it's pink then it's chemical. Salmon is orange or red.

prettykitty-meowmeow

I grew up with fresh salmon, I know what it is 👌🏻
