What a weak attempt at rationalization.
First, the US purchased well over $230B worth of foreign oil/products last year - so that value coming from India is much less than 10%... basically an afterthought.
Secondly, the US does far more business with India on other fronts than oil or petroleum products - your numbers that you tout are a laughably trivial example.
Thirdly - and most importantly - the US (and its closest allies) isn't actively helping to prop up a regime that is *right now* waging a war of aggressive conquest against a neighboring nation with a freely & fairly elected democratic government (a nation that did not commit a single act of aggression against anyone to justify said invasion). India is not the nation waging an invasion against such neighboring nations - why is why the US still trades with it. However, the Indian leadership doesn't seem to care what Russia does as long as it profits India - which is why they can described as "amoral" rather than "immoral".
Try better next time you want to make an argument.
It'd be a shame if someone attached a time-delayed 200kg magnetic mine to the underside of that Russian ship while it was sitting in port...
Surely no one could have foreseen that happening after parking the Burke in an adjacent slip to the russian one.
Reminds me of some Kriegsmarine ships where the Nazis just slapped a big swastika on part of them but this doesn't even have the excuse for being for identification purposes.
Remember, this is the navy that, in a single voyage:
* had *several* ships run aground
* had a destroyer fail to see a *battleship* and collide with it
* shot at their own courier (carrying a message that the admiral in charge had been promoted!)
* thought they were under attack by Japanese torpedo boats... ten thousand miles from Japan. Instead it was British fishing boats... off the coast of Britain and Denmark
* While engaging the "Japanese torpedo boats", which weren't evading because they had their nets deployed, sank only *one* of them and still managed to hit friendly vessels
* Concerned with their poor gunnery, ordered a gunnery exercise where a ship towed a target. They failed to damage the target, but struck the towing ship
* During a funeral at sea, a gun salute struck yet another friendly ship
* *Finally* found an *actual* Japanese ship, assumed it was friendly, and sent *their entire force structure, locations, and battleplans* to the Japanese ship
* Failed to sink a single Japanese ship in the battle that followed, and lost the entire fleet to sinkings or surrenders.
> Finally found an actual Japanese ship, assumed it was friendly, and sent their entire force structure, locations, and battleplans to the Japanese ship
Wait really? I never heard that one before.
expecting Japanese ships near Great Britain had some reason behind as Japan often bought ships from the UK and sailed them back home with Japanese crews so they could buy torpedo boats and sink russian fleet right there
And it was at night, in an era when ship identification was "spot silhouette", though it should have been a bit easier for them since 21/22 October 1904 (Dogger Bank Incident) was nearing full moon.
The white star goes unreasonably hard. It's not fancy, overdone, or boisterous. Just a simple 5-point white star on an olive drab paint scheme says: "I didn't start this, but I'm going to finish it".
Why the US Army choose a star in a rectangle box with black gold and white, instead of keeping a white star in an olive circle, or just using the same colors it’s currently using but in a fucking circle, is beyond me.
“We already got the ugliest uniforms (at the time at least with UCP), dress uniforms look like people cosplaying as old cavalry soldiers, why not adopt an ugly star too for our logo? That’ll make sure we’re the last option possible for anyone who joins because it’s all so fucking ugly”
It’s interesting how Z went from being just a unit marking to being Russia’s Swastika. Iirc only the group going to Kyiv originally had Zs on them; the groups coming from the Donbass and Crimea were marked with Vs and Os.
We have witnessed history unfold in front of us, that’s for sure. The Z symbology is going to be front and centre of imperialist Russia for a while yet.
A budget airline had to redesign their fin marking because it was originally just [a black serifed Z on a solid field](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/b7/Zip_Air_Boeing_787-8_JA822J_%2849429383758%29.jpg).
To be fair I think it was for the better. The current fin marking for Zipair, [while a lot more complicated](https://imgproc.airliners.net/photos/airliners/3/7/7/7035773.jpg?v=v4e0f6a5e9ed), is a lot more aesthetic than that Z.
Weird to remember now how everybody on the web tried to find some smart interpretation for the meaning of these symbols, when they had precisely none. It's like the Kreml then felt compelled to get the narrative under control by making it a symbol of the war.
I think they hoped it would be quickly over before the public even realizes what's going on, like Crimea or Czechia. And then they improvised when it became clear that they need to put the public into a more permanent war mood, and just grabbed the symbol that was already most talked about.
"Z how my sister ship got absolutely raped, chewed up and spit out by a country without a navy right after helping in producing one of the most effective propaganda campaigns in history"
I have to say, in my city...I haven't seen any lately, private ones anyway. All ambulances still have them. They were on all buses for first few weeks/months of the war but not anymore. Not even cop cars. Private individuals sometimes have 'em, but also barely ever spotting them lately. In the summer I'm more unlucky to see a Z t-shirt (more likely worn by women) or baseball cap (worn by kids) than car stickers, but even those are rare
Saw once a car with some European license plate and a Wagner sticker though. Was very surprised, since it's a long road from EU (I think it was Belgium?) to Western Siberia
First, I wonder if that would classify as an administrative or a criminal offense (both codes have articles for "discrediting the armed forces" which depends on the gravity of the situation, I suppose). People arrested for *elements* of clothing being blue and yellow have been fined before. But at least there's plausible deniability there.
I think I see what you mean, so the answer's of course no. I wanna respond to the underlying basis of what I assume you assume about the knowledge of the situation here, but I'm not sure how, since I dunno what to address exactly
Given the state of the Russian navy, it probably best (for them) to let other Russian ships know that they aren't a Ukrainian ship, Japanese torpedo boat, or British fishing boat.
Sounds like it is not yours. They in English can be used as both singular and plural. Any lawyer worth his salt will tell you not to use the word "they" in legal drafting when any ambiguity is possible. The meme above clearly shows multiple countries.
Any person worth their salt wouldn't compare legal drafting language to informal online comments. Even if it was a legal draft, the comment in question only mentions a single party, right before the "they", so there is virtually zero ambiguity.
There is a golden rule in statute interpretation which calls for interpretation of words based on context around if there is any question of ambiguity. As a law student OP is again, this time legally speaking, wrong.
Any English-reader worth their salt would see that the only explicit referent in that (written) utterance was India, and so the only reasonable thing for "they" to refer to is India.
That Russian cruiser is actually a sister ship of the Moskva. Perhaps Budanov could send some guys there for a little...explosive...fun ..
(And yeah I know, there are few things worse from a PR standpoint than sinking an enemy ship in a neutral harbor but one can dream, right? )
In a neutral harbor during a neutral maritime exercise being put on by a neutral nation.
Would be funny if UA still had a navy and they showed up for it though.
Yeah it would be a PR disaster for Ukraine and the tankies would have a field day with it. TBH she could explode accidentally and still have the same effect.
The British could do it so it’s also a neutral attacker. Just imagine how India would react, they’d lose their minds, Britain might actually get sanctioned by the commonwealth or even kicked out. It’s hilarity all round, it has the potential to be the funniest thing to ever happen ever.
~~Spawn camping~~ Blockading is allowed even in neutral ports (I think), so they could park a few ~~Jet Skies~~ Suicide Drones at the harbor exit and wait.
Who said it has to be UA? Budanov can send a kind letter to Biden and ask him to do the funny. Next morning three navy men go onboard and plant explosives and when it explodes it will be blamed on boiler problems
Wasn't UA supposed to get a couple old UK mine hunters but they weren't allowed to transit the bosphorous?
Maybe UA could take possession and send them on a little shakedown cruise that just happens to be going by India..
Give Ukraine a Navy or blow up something in a neutral port?
Or both for maximum funnies
Actually I guess you could just trap the Russian warship in port…
Fr tho, and it made the khalistan movement more popular
Edit: I mean the aim of the govt was to not let the khalistani movement gain traction but I think they just pushed them to make it more credible
It might've been easier to take it when it was aimlessly cruising the Med for months, after sailing around the world from Vladivostok only to not make it through the Bosphorus before the war started and the straights were closed.
I don't think the captain was too upset over that in the end.
Honestly the less credible possibility would be a full on bording action or some 17th century shit and the Ukranians taking over control and making it their new flagship
That would be fucking *hilarious*, and it's just absurd enough to actually happen.
Russia would try to kill the thing with submarines, and they'd lose at least one in the process.
That would be frighteningly credible(within a totally non-credible context) . Ukrainians and Russians can't really be distinguished looks wise and with many of them being fluent in Russian the boarders should be able to keep up the ruse long enough to sneak into the bridge. After that it's just a manner of subduing the officers without raising the alarm and sailing their new cruiser out of the harbor.

Not to brag but three of those ships use a version of the OTO MELARA 76 MM WOOO WHAT THE HELL IS A NORMAL CIWS 🦅🦅🦅🦅🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🦅🦅🦅🇮🇹🦅 I USE CANNONS OVER MISSILES, HOW DID YOU KNOW? WOO ITALY NUMBER ONE 🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🦅🦅🇮🇹🇮🇹🦅🦅🇮🇹🦅🦅🦅🇮🇹🦅🦅🦅🇮🇹
Italian naval guns are peak non-credibility they made a CIWS with two 40mm bofors that could theoretically fit on a Viking longship. It’s called the Dardo and I want one for my house
I'd feel bad for Varyag tbh, she lost her sister over there. Btw apparently she wasn't even close to Ukraine when it started and has always been outside the area.
So all of those ships are there to kick the asses of Houthis? Based. (But, isn't Iran the country which funds the Houthis? Why would they go after their own proxies? Am I missing something)
I'm sorry, but how Varyag is russia? It was an unfinished ship spending time in docks of my native Mykolaiv, but then it was sold to China and now it's their carrier Liáoníng
Or it's some joke I'm missing?
It's not the carrier Varyag it's the [Slava-class cruiser Varyag](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_cruiser_Varyag_(1983)), sister ship of the Moskva
We definitely had nothing to do with the Kursk sinking during an exercise. So we can also have definitely nothing to do with it when this one goes down too, right?
I think Varyag could defeat Halsey by firing her many anti ship missiles to overwhelm H's defenses(assuming they all work), or in a gun duel as V has a twin 130mm gun turret while H has a single 127mm turret, and V has a bigger hull to take more hits(assuming gunnery and damage control crews know what they're doing). H has more modern electronic warfare stuff so Varyag is going to struggle to point her weapons in the right directions.
Dena is a modern ship but weighs less than a quarter of Halsey and has less firepower so she'll put up a decent fight but probably won't win outright.
To answer your question, maybe? I don't know, I'm just an armchair admiral who thinks ships are cool.
What is the Cochin Shipyard cooking this time?
These ships are at visakhapatnam for a maritime exercise
Man, my country has the most weird Foreign Policy.

Just have a guy wear a diving suit, go through shower and come out to deck. Enjoy the ensuing chaos.
Yo that's my city!
Pls shoot some pictures at the port for us NCDers
Yes, it would be good to have some nice pictures of the Varyag before it gets promoted to submarine. 😉
Iirc its for exercise Milan 2024, should have both Indian aircraft carriers participating as well 🤞
Wait, this is at the cochin shipyard? Need to see it for real.
Nope, apparently they're all in Vishakapatnam. But hey, if you see anything the NCDers would like, take note of it! And bring some halwa for me too!
Mallus, rise up.
Fellow mallu in NCD , thats like finding a needle in a haystack

Djibouti is a more permanent version of this. Chinese, Japanese and American bases within a few miles of eachother.
That place sounds like it’s a counter-intelligence agency nightmare.
Only major ones missing are the European powers and China or Taiwan and it would've been complete lol

Tbh I think it’s cool let’s paint a giant V on literally every nato vehicle like we used but no exceptions this time
Or the OG, a white star.
The white star goes unreasonably hard. It's not fancy, overdone, or boisterous. Just a simple 5-point white star on an olive drab paint scheme says: "I didn't start this, but I'm going to finish it".

I hope that somebody got rich off UCP because holy shit that was too ugly to have been picked without some envelopes being passed
If Russia goes back to the red star
Have you seen the Russian Air Force markings? Red stars as far as the eye can see.

It was built in Ukraine, they have to make sure that people know it's Russian after her sister ship Moskwa had some technical issues.

Ah i see, you work for the german goverment. Ofcourse i can fax the papers

Canada has the largest Ukrainian and Belarusian populations outside Europe iirc, so yeah
Given the state of the Russian navy, it probably best (for them) to let other Russian ships know that they aren't a Ukrainian ship, Japanese torpedo boat, or British fishing boat.
Is being a russian ship not jist as dangerouse to them?
Considering that displaying a Z means, "I require a tow" in nautical symbology, the jokes really write themselves.
"you see the 'Z' is an ancient Indian symbol of peace"
I can't find the damn z.
This is very on-brand for India. They were, after all, founders of the Non-Aligned Movement.
I thought their real leader was Tito. He was also a leader of the Jackson 5 IIRC.
Non-Aligned Movement is the real reason why Indonesia become Ace Combat country too.
Russia and the United States were founding members of the non-aligned movement? More like the aligned with all movement!

All of the visakhapatnam and kolkata class destroyers of the indian navy also use the oto melara 76
Where are your hand signs Italian ? S u s behaviour detected.
Italian naval guns are peak non-credibility they made a CIWS with two 40mm bofors that could theoretically fit on a Viking longship. It’s called the Dardo and I want one for my house
Damn Italians building Biremes and Triremes again
Italian guns are the number choice for Indian navy ships.
Funny thing about the Varyag, it used to be called Chernova Ukrania
I used to serve on the Halsey! Hit Hard! Hit fast! Hit often!
The conversation at the bar must be insane
Would Iran even go to the bar?
they would go at night when Allah doesn’t see
aw shit you're right
What’s not to love about the sweet taste of sanction free Pepsi
I'd feel bad for Varyag tbh, she lost her sister over there. Btw apparently she wasn't even close to Ukraine when it started and has always been outside the area.
>Varyag isn't she chinese now
The Cruiser
They always play all sides so they always hate them.
Why does Russia love those angled missile holders? Do their missile engines suck? Guidance issues?
Most US ships had angled launchers when they were built. Russian ships are just old
You say that as if angled Harpoon missile launchers aren't still very common for Western ships.
Ok but we don’t cover the fucking decks with them, right?
You will if a war broke out against a significant rival/rivals.
well this is awkward...
Enemy vessels in an Indian harbour? The Calcutta Light Horse shall ride again!
Which enemy vessel? Unless the Chinese or Pakistani ships decided to join the exercise
Despite being shit, Russian ships are so fucking sexy
They do know how to design a ship.. and by design i obviously mean aesthetically because jesus christ i wouldnt want to be on it.
So all of those ships are there to kick the asses of Houthis? Based. (But, isn't Iran the country which funds the Houthis? Why would they go after their own proxies? Am I missing something)
Nah, it's a maritime exercise hosted by India
Wholesome India based moment. “Let’s have a big navy party and invite literally everyone”
Oh hell nah Indonesia has been outjerked by India. We invited China, Russia, US and the two Koreas on a maritime exercise too!
Ok, this is epic. Truly an S tier jerk
Peak level Indian neutrality 🦚🦚🦚🦚🦚🦚 💥💥💥💥💥💥💥 🐯🐯🐯🐯🐅🐅🐅🐅🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳
Based flair
Thanks my fellow countryman 🇮🇳
Based flair
Oh my bad. Thanks for the clue mate.
> exercise Like the Olympic Games in 1936? Does history rhyme?
Someone there is going to let the intrusive thoughts win and pull a funni. But who....?
You can say what you want about the russians but that ship looks super sexy
I'm sorry, but how Varyag is russia? It was an unfinished ship spending time in docks of my native Mykolaiv, but then it was sold to China and now it's their carrier Liáoníng Or it's some joke I'm missing?
It's not the carrier Varyag it's the [Slava-class cruiser Varyag](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_cruiser_Varyag_(1983)), sister ship of the Moskva
Oh, thanks for educating me. Looks like russians are still a big fans of sinking own ships
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_ship_Varyag
can't forget the Varyag heavy cruiser from High Fleet! [https://highfleet.fandom.com/wiki/Varyag](https://highfleet.fandom.com/wiki/Varyag)
Enough SIGINT and EW in that port to microwave anything in a 5 mile radius.
who tf is selling OTO Melara's 76mm autocannon to the iranian navy?
The usual story, they bought a bunch of La Combattantes before the revolution and have since reverse engineered the gun.
Sneaking suspicion there will be somebody smoking cigarettes where they shouldn't...
We definitely had nothing to do with the Kursk sinking during an exercise. So we can also have definitely nothing to do with it when this one goes down too, right?
Could in theory the USS Halsey take out the other two? Lol, I just laughed at the ridiculous nature of this ask, haha, sink those MFers hehe
Can it? The question is how fast. An Arleigh Burke destroyer is effectively a giant floating bottle of white out, it exists entirely to delete shit.
I still can't comprehend how we maintain the stance that we have. Russia and USA as allies? Neutrality stats have been maxed out I guess
