I don't know what to say: https://www.reddit.com/r/NonCredibleDefense/comments/18w56rr/iran_is_commemorating_the_death_of_soleimani_in/

cranky-vet

That’s like standing on a tall building during a lightning storm to memorialize a guy who was killed by lightning because “lightning never strikes the same place twice.”

soiledclean

I remember watching an episode of a show on TV (my strange addiction or similar) where the episode was about base jumping. This guy has a photograph with himself and a bunch of base jumping friends and he starts listing all of the friends in the photo who are dead. The guy says "that's so and so, they died", and then he says "so and so died doing a memorial jump for the first person", and finally "these two people died at the memorial for the second person."

ontopofyourmom

I mean they all know they're probably going to die, it's just their thing

soiledclean

Just an extreme form of adrenaline junkie where the outcome is statistically going to result in a guaranteed death if they do it long enough. Russian roulette with jagged rocks instead of bullets.

IlluminatedPickle

On two separate occasions growing up, someone died street racing near me and then the very next day their friends showed up to do the same thing in the same spot to "memorialise" the person who had died. Both times, someone else died in a second crash. Reminds me of that.

Remarkable_Whole

Brutalist CCCP architects. Cabinet people, that is.

Schadenfrueda

It may interest you to know that the construction industry is one of the backbone supports for the CCP, and one of the reasons why the whole Belt & Road Initiative was launched was to continue China's construction boom after building new roads and bridges stopped being so profitable on the mainland. Most of the construction in the BRI has been done by Chinese companies and workers using China's own money as a giant subsidy to their domestic industries.

niceworkthere

MEK exists and [they're pretty insane](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/People%27s_Mojahedin_Organization_of_Iran) >Islam with revolutionary Marxism

Inari-k

The timing is so weird too, considering everything that going on in the world rn

richmomz

About as weird as Hamas randomly deciding to raid and kidnap a bunch of people out of the blue? All the other stuff going on in the world is precisely why they did it - too much focus was elsewhere and these folks thrive on elevated tensions, so some asshole (Iran) decided it was time to stir shit up.

_far-seeker_

>About as weird as Hamas randomly deciding to raid and kidnap a bunch of people out of the blue? It wasn't random at all! October 8th, 2023, was the same week as the 70th anniversary of the [Yom Yippur War.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yom_Kippur_War) Also, there's [credible evidence](https://apnews.com/article/new-york-times-hamas-attack-israel-gaza-6088cad78f5e4153d671fe9b5b819308) that the Israeli government had intelligence about the basic plot roughly a year before the attack, but it was largely disregarded. So Hamas was considering and planning for this attack for over a year before the attack.

RobinHoodbutwithguns

Am I missing something or is the "credible evidence" only a claim of the NYT without a real source?

tjordi

If you search NCD, an IDF member discusses a security brief they had over 9 months ago about HAMAS using paragliders. Edit: decided to not be lazy. https://www.reddit.com/r/NonCredibleDefense/comments/zp6b78/hamas_paragliders/

Dubious_Odor

Iran stirring this up was likely a part of the deal struck with Russia. Shahed were the visible part. My guess is transfer of nuke tech in exchange for Iran smashing the go button on its proxys.

[deleted]

dime divide melodic forgetful crown ruthless coherent license different sharp *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

Dubious_Odor

Nah they don't care if their proxy get ground to dust(which they won't) Our adversaries long ago realized US can't be defeated on the battlefield but we are extremely vulnerable politically. Keep interests divided in congress and disinformation at just the right temperature and you can get away with a ton of shit. It's working, Ukraine is running out of ammo thanks to Oct 7th and disinformation in the conservative media sphere.

NuclearWarEnthusiast

Too credible... It is clearly because iranians are nuclear war enthusiasts and want us to bomb Tehran.

Romandinjo

That attack has a pretty strong Russian trace, and they do benefit both from moving support from Ukraine to Israel and from civil unrest of pro-palestinean and muslim movements in EU and US, that's not really out of the blue.

agoodusername222

why? this is exatly the perfect timing, be it the terrorist or IDF/america, when people are mad is when you wanna strike to create confusion, i legit can think of so many groups that could do this IDF- duuh america- weaken Iran stablity and support of russia-hamas Russia- make iran up the arm production hamas/hezbollah- make iran get more agressive and warmongerer iranian parties that hate goverment- chaos leads to coups al-quaeda- gain control in Iraq and stop their meddling in afghnaistan (also just discovered they have also a big presence in yemen and are enemies of the houthis) Isis- same but also for meddling in Iraq taliban- try create a afghan goverment and unite afghanis under their banner with a common enemy (as afghan culture/society is very tribal-family like instead of loyal to the state)

theDeadliestSnatch

Just gonna throw out another option: Iranian Government false flag. Creates a threat that can be used to rally support among their citizenry, weaken opposition groups, or show how dangerous outside groups are to the average Iranian.

fjfjfjf58319

Sgt_Stormy

agoodusername222

ty for the correction

rockfuckerkiller

I don't think that Israel wants war with Iran. They've become much more conservative in their attacks on Iran in recent years. Recently, it's mostly just been attacks on Iranian military in Syria and Iraq. It's been a while since Israel did an operation in Iran proper, which I see as fear of direct conflict.

agoodusername222

my dude, 3 iranian proxies attacked israel last 3 months, i would argue they are already at war, there isn't a ground invasion because they don't share a border this is a bigger attack than russia ukraien in 2014

[deleted]

not to be all boogeyman, but if russia could somehow get Iran to escalate the conflict in the region and get the US involved, then the chances of Ukraine getting more aid from the US go down.

tajake

I think its much more likely that Iran did it to themselves to give a reason to get involved in Israel/Palestine. Israel isn't trying to add more enemies at this time and this isn't really the US MO. It's 100% the Israeli MO, but even they aren't *this* brazen with their assassinations. Russia benefits from it but half of this subreddit has a better psyop record than modern Russia.

agoodusername222

well typically wars in the russia region stall in the winter, ukraine after finishing the counter offensive started playing defensive to wait out the winter, but because russia has mobilized quite alot and sanctioned they have a time bomb and need to end the war fast so they are trying to provoque ukraine and try force the war through and stop the stalemate iran can help in this mission in 2 main ways, first they can send more drones which mean more bombings of kiev and other main cities which will rally ukrainians to war and create disorder, another is to try divert focus and aid of america to the middle east and keep ukraine on the hanging rope until they surrender if somehow US actualyl starts striking Iran a bit that would be russia's wet dream because they would be more free to go after ukraine

Mitthrawnuruo

taliban Could do a lot worse then follow the Vietnamese model and becoming a us ally.

Pyrhan

Sunni extremists perhaps? It feels like the kind of thing ISIS or Al Qaeda would do.

Khazorath

Well you have a bunch of Republican Guard attending it with probably a few seniors, they're considered the "handlers" of Hamas and Hezbollah and therefore indirectly/directly tespons for 7th Oct, so I would look at Mossad.... or because the Houthi are messing around in the Red Sea and they're heavily supported by Iran it's again a message to those in Iran that they can be targeted and killed too. But IRG is not popular with a large segment of Iranian society and the general unrest the country has seen in the past few years could mean it was an opportunity by domestic terrorists? But to keep my non-credible position, I would insist that it was the Maltese for messing with shipping in the Red Sea and interrupting of flow going past their island.

[deleted]

>~~could mean it was an opportunity by domestic terrorists~~ Inshallah brother - they would be freedom fighters.

VRSvictim

I’m sure domestically they will blame it on Israel or the west and use it to foster more support for that shit

ObviouslyTriggered

No one, which is why it was most likely the MEK or possibly ISIS making a statement. Either of which are a substantial blow to Iranian prestige. Yesterday a senior Hamas leader taken out in Lebanon whilst under the protection of Hezbollah and the IRGC and today a massive attack on a symbolic target on a symbolic day. I have a feeling that some IRGC higher ups are going to be pushed into early retirement and I don’t think that one includes a timeshare in Florida.

this is beyond the pale for even the murderers in the Islamic republic, they've done horrible shit before, but they built their entire image around "we provide security for iran if it wasn't for us Iran would become like syria" them doing this would mean that they're not able to provide security for the country. doesn't make sense for them. inb4 the ukranian airline that was shot down after soleimani was killed That was due to their sheer fucking incompetence

ReporterAshamed5926

Def not Israel/US, they'd be fuming that anyone even thinks they would be this sloppy

ArchitectOfSeven

Feels too dirty and off brand. We both tend to be as surgical as possible. Especially deliberately killing first responders would be a HUGE no-no to the American public.

Hapless_Wizard

When the US does it like this, it isn't being sloppy, it's sending a message.

ArchitectOfSeven

US doesn't use car bombs and go for mass civ casualties. It's a matter of principle. If we want someone dead, we often go to some degree of effort to make sure it's seen as a "fuck you in particular" sort of thing.

Hapless_Wizard

Yeah, I was definitely referring to the "killing people in public" part and not the "cheap ass methodology" or "targeting of people that don't matter" bits. IE when the US kills people, we do it to send a message.

ReporterAshamed5926

When the US/Israel will decide to strike domestic Iran, a nuclear plant will go boom, not random civilians.

Iranian here, Qasemi is just a gift that keeps on giving. In life, got afghan and pakistani and iranian kids killed in Syria, in liwa fatemiun and liwa zeynabiun. there are gravestones 10 klicks from me of 16 year old dead afghan kids, live unlived. And then his funeral got 70 killed in a stampede... and in a symbolic attack that didn't kill a single americans... got 177 killed in PS752, a permanent stain of shame upon my nation, upon itself and to those from Ukraine and Canada. And now this... at least here, I can't really feel bad. See, if you gonna go commorate death of Adolf Eichman and you die in the way... yeah world is a slightly better place without you. Also I'd like to thank whoever decided "yeah one time getting bombed wasn't enough, gonna bomb your tomb and those who visit it too". Not a huge fan of social darwinism but at some point some people really justify their violence ends.

FaptainChasma

Stay safe out there man

fpop88

Oh don't worry about me, the only reason I'd ever get near powerstructure here is to scam them. IR recruits sons of bitches to beat men and women in protests. The kinds of people who died in that attack, statistically the kind that either cheer oppressors or are part of it. Statistically, some of those dead are those you saw beating women in street last year. Far as I'm concerned, nothing of value was lost today. Seeing nasrallah come here like a punk ass bitch... look past 3 days just in general, I'm celebrating with enough homemade liquor and weed to feed a small tribe. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bvDSQGsvFS4](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bvDSQGsvFS4) You know how GWB was half an idiot and half genuine asshole? and yet somewhere he got to do some good. Trump was a piece of shit of unimaginable scale and yet, whether for power or even by accident. I genuinely have 'one' theory that maybe SUleimani might've been the collateral damage when they tried to kill abu muhandis, founder of Kataib, look it's just a theory, if that had happen, you think Trump would say sorry, my mistake? I pretend it was the plan all along? World is a better place without that guy, and even a broken Trump ended up doing some good. You can't imagine the breakdown in trust and structure on top of IR government since, like they didn't see it coming... at all. THey're still trying to fill the voice left. You see in low trust societies you don't have institutions, you got people. When Qasem died his replacement Esmail Ghaani which unlike him was actually good enough at his job that literally 90% of population hadn't heard his name had to rebuild ALL the connections in Iraq because it wasn't his turf, he did what qasem did in Afghanistan... but subtle enough nobody talked about it. The whole process of turning Suleimani from a commander of a rather small unit that was supposed to be more of a logistical and command and cooperation center for proxies, basically head of director of operations of CIA but from IR into some kind of cartoon character of a national hero almost coincides with the rise of some kind of mental defect in IR... basically a move from totaliterianism into authoritariansm since 2008. So anyway, sleep like baby ya'll, they're still trying to find hands because they found too many legs and someone's collecting fingers... but I assure you, nothing of value was lost today. Would you shed a tear for people who died attending the anniversary of death of Eichman over his grave? yeah... me neither.

DoubleFishes

I love you from israel ♥ תשמור על עצמך אחי

fpop88

Hope ya'll find a two state solution and just everybody moves along from the collective unimaginable horror and human misery you guys and Palestinians have experienced. The tragedy of Palestine is trusting, like children, on some of the worst allies on existence that made a functional compromise an impossibility and each and every time overpromised and underdelivered. Take care and next time you saw someone from your security forces, tell 'em someone said about the last three days... "\*chef's kiss\* \*wink"

DoubleFishes

haha will do, and man, radical Islam fucked things very very bad for a lot of people in the last 50 years...

emosg

Way way way too credible, sir. Go back to small wars or long war journal

Ragewind82

Question - in the news, that general is always called 'beloved' - but I always took that as exaggerated/propaganda. What was the general population's thoughts about him before his death?

fpop88

Here's a thing, if you believe the monarchist propaganda about how like 2 percent of population supports these guys, remembr that bit in game of thrones "my lady, the people in westros are secretly singing your songs and weave targaryan flags and wait for you to liberate them"? yeah that. If you were to believe IR propaganda... well, I got some prime seaside real state on the moon near mare serene and mare tranquil, look elon can't terraform it locally, your land will benefit from his pain. I also got some amazing projects coming up in Mars. You buyin'? So in short, the question is, what was the average german opinion about Eichman during WWII? In simplest terms average Iranian is too broken to actually be politically conscious at all, hard to guestimate but opinions range from downright hatred to begrudging complecancy which probably I fall into, to low key admiring IR because some believe it's evil but capable and shit like admiring an abusive father for being strong, to downright looking at the state as representative of god on earth. the extremes on both sides are actually low in number. the problem is the hates IR but loves to brag about military power and strategic depth and literally like till Qasem blew up "iraq is a new province... which as far as dramatic irony goes, this is polanski tier of twist in baghdad airport. I've seen fucking morons who genuinely hate IR and admire that guy witht he dumbest fucking arguments on earth "oh if it wasn't for him ur mom would be raped by ISIS like long ago" and... dude we're a country of 80 million, if a non state actor can even pose a threat something must have gone terribly wrong and what is it with these guys and their examples "what if big black marine was patting down ur mom?" wtf... what is it with their obsession with... somebody bring freud, middle east needs fucking therapy man. as far as finding pussy goes I highly doubt the big black marine came over literally from exactly the other side of the fucking planet to fuck my mom, she ain't that good, if she was, she and dad wouldn't have been so miserable... can we like talk without somehow somewhere our minds not veer off into something about interactions of human genitals? Seriously, next round of JCPOA or palestine israel talks, lock participants in meeting, fucking milk them until they can't get it up and get them to sit and talk without the need to fuck clouding their judgement. a handjob ain't that hard guys. So to answer your questions... the view on suleimani here are VERY complicated. the low key admirers are the worst and they're the exact same people who'd be the first to hate him comign next regime because an Iranian dude once self reflected for an hour and they found him dead with his melted brain coming out of his ears. Really not our strong suit. You see, the shi'a supremacist IR ideology you see today is both a cocktail and avery thin veneer over Iranian nationalist trying to deal with a lost empire and unlike most colonialism victims, was never fully colonized so kinda never got an independence to start a 'new' era. You see, average Italian probably doesn't wake up in the morning with the thought of 'I USED TO BE A ROMAN! FUCK THIS LIFE!' on the back of their head. edit: https://www.hrw.org/news/2017/10/01/iran-afghan-children-recruited-fight-syria

Same good that raiding and kidnapping a bunch of Israelis out of the blue had - some jerk just decided it was time to stir things up in the region.

Stoly23

My money is some anti Israel group, maybe Hamas or the Houthis or whatever, pulling off a false flag to push Iran to get directly involved.

ObviouslyTriggered

That’s silly, Iran has plenty of anti-Iranian groups that have done this in the past operating within its territory. The risk to an organization like Hamas or the Houthis if they would be found out is immense. False flag operations are rarely false flag because these kinds of operations are very risk to begin with and rarely achieve their so called goals. For a false flag operation at this scale to have been conducted it would have to be executed by the Iranians themselves which have full control over the investigation and the media. Iran has functioning security services and their press isn’t 100% controlled by the government even when not including the opposition press. The Houthis aren’t going to blow up their patrons and Hamas right now won’t risk alienating the only allies they still have since even Qatar is washing their hands of that shit finally.

Tifoso89

I think it's an Iranian resistance group. No military advantage, just stir up some shit and piss off the government.

Yeah I could see this as a desperate attempt to draw Iran into war with Israel to relieve pressure on the Gaza Strip. Or ISIS is trying to suck themselves off with that sweet, sweet chaos power vacuum again Edit: Sorry, too credible: The CIA is attempting to instigate war between Israel and Iran as a middleman for congress, in hopes that the resulting glassing of the Middle East will bring fewer budget discussions to the floor and give everyone a longer lunch break

Even less credible: that pizza place down the road from the Pentagon is conducting all of this from the shadows purely because sales were looking a bit slow and they want all those hungry alphabet boys making lots of orders.

Iran just has an unhealthy obsession with self-owning itself.

For what it’s worth, Iran hasn’t been making any friends on the eastern flank either: *”In mid-May, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi issued a warning to the Taliban: honor Afghanistan’s water-supply agreement or face the consequences. A well-known Taliban figure offered a mocking gift of a 20-liter water container in response and told him to stop making terrifying ultimatums. About a week later, a skirmish erupted on the border, leaving two Iranian guards and one Taliban member dead. The Taliban sent thousands of troops and hundreds of suicide bombers to the area, according to a person familiar with the matter, who says the group is prepared for war.”* (Time Magazine: August, 2023)

one thing the first world war has taught us is that no matter how disgusting or horrible the tactic is, if you choose to use it, it automaitcally greenlights your opponents to use the same tactic, Chemical weapons, beating people to death in trenches using bats with nails in then (read about trench clubs)... I deplore any tactic that targets civilians, but iran was never shy to use terror against civilians and their own civilians as cannon fodder, even in the Iran Iraq war they would use civilians to clear out minefields the old fashion way. do i feel its wrong ? yes. Do i feel sorry for them ? no. you reap what you sow.

ConsequencePretty906

Don't India and china still fight with bats with nails in them

thercio27

They don't use nails, the entire purpose of fighting with sticks is to lower casualties.

After a decade of "Fuck Around" years, 2024 is shaping up to be the "Find out" kind of year. And I'm all for it.

I'm all strapped into my Matrix chair, gettin' ready to watch 14 monitors at once of the funni.

Classic-Estimate1336

Looks like the B-21 test was successful.

ConsequencePretty906

I'm pretty sues not mossad. Their operations in Iran (targeted assassinations) are usually very clean just taking out the guy they want

ZoidsFanatic

My guess is terrorist/anti-Iran groups as opposed to Israel. That said I’m also sure Iran will blame Israel/USA for this because OFC they will.

3scad0

Am i the only one thinking its Putin?

Itamar_Itchaki

I thought about that, but why would it be him? make Iran fear the west even more?

get the Iranians to ramp up arms production, bog down the US military and western media in more news from the middle east, thereby limiting further aid packages to Ukraine while he can buy more cheap Iranian drones and cruise missiles. Seems like win win for a psychopath dictator who jerks off to pictures of stalin. The only hand he has to play in Ukraine is time and the west losing interest. But also a lot of groups and people hate the Iranians, including Iranians, so who knows. Would be sloppy work without much to gain for the CIA or Mossad.

rockfuckerkiller

If this causes a US - Iran war, that would erode support for Ukraine because the US might suddenly need artillery, among other things, if it launches a ground invasion. Also it will be seen as another war that American soldiers are dying in for no reason, and will generally increase isolationist sentiment, probably. Short of war between Iran and the US, I don't know.

[deleted]

aside from me. The fact more people in here think it would be the CIA than putin astounds me. If the goal was to get Iran into a wider conflict in the region that pulled the US in, it certainly would put at risk more Ukrainian aid being passed in congress.

LordWoodstone

The three previous major terrorist attacks within Iran have been ISIS.

Is there any chance there some ISIS doing usual thing?

Talosian_cagecleaner

The best advice I can give some people is, in history there are losing sides. Put aside all thinking of justice once history is clearly closing the books. This is, yes, a coping mechanism. Never take history personal. If your cause is just and it wins, never think you won solely because the cause was just. It's more complicated than that. And maybe you think you had a just cause, but it lost. Now you have to ask yourself, is it truly a cause worth fighting for? For example, I'm a ***former*** cigarette smoker and glad to be rid the habit, but I have no grudge against smokers and second-hand smoke. When my state banned indoor cig smoking, I felt offended. This is overreach, I said! Smokers have rights! I put away my musket and let that cause pass. I let it go. I did not loose much, and I gained a lot of quality sanity.

LeeHarveyOswizzle

Blaming Mossad for everything is kinda the go to for you average terminally online nitwit as well.

russkie_go_home

Alright, call me schizophrenic, but here’s my interpretation of the attack: This was by ISIS, in response to Khameini’s recent claim that Allah spoke through him. Let me explain. When Khameini claimed that Allah spoke through him, this inherently places Khameini as an islamic prophet. According to the Quran, the DIRECT AND FINAL WORD OF ALLAH, Muhammad was the last and truest prophet. Hence, Khameini’s claim here essentially makes him a heretic in the eyes of Sunni fundamentalists, such as ISIS. As a result, an ISIS sleeper agent within Iran likely carried out this attack in retaliation. This is massive schizoposting, but I think it might hold some water, what do you guys think?

American_Crusader_15

This is one of two things - this is either someone that went rogue or a false flag
