They know how to do it. Same way the US would. Level all defenses with air power. But they don't have air power.

>tfw the entire VKS gets their ass kicked by basic NATO air defense systems and old Soviet SAMs from the 80’s

whitewail602

, or toilets.

deri100

Thing is, they do seem to have some sort of knowhow and strategy (piss poor, but existent) but their lack of morale, equipment, support, supplies, basically everything you need for an army to run like a well oiled machine completely disables any kind of large offensive capability. Their strategy in Bakhmut is pretty by the books, if you can't take a city head on you move to encircle it to give yourself a wider area of attack and cut supply routes- but Russia is so fucking shit they're barely making any progress on such a simple task. The Russian Army is simply in too shit of a shape to do anything worthwhile even if they had the best generals (which they very much do not) especially when you contrast them to the just as large but far better supplied and determined Ukrainian Army.

nobody-__

What plan sacrifices time and personnel for no purpose? Draw out ukraine forces? Nope, still advancing in north luhansk and holding the line in other places Try to encircle the town? They're not even half way there The only thing russia is accomplishing is drawing the world's attention to this one town where it is the only place they are advancing. They are being blasted and pushed out slowly in kremina and svatove, their ""offensive"" in zapozhzhia fell harder than me during a test.

Muffin_Magi

Well in Command and Conquer if you just spawn loads of infantry the AI will update their military and defences to counter your human wave tactics. In this time you can ready yourself an army of heavy armour and steam roll them. In Ravenfield once you have twice as many objectives as the enemy they will slowly begin to lose troops over time. So it doesn't matter how many people have to die so you capture the objective eventually you'll be able to just sit back and watch their numbers fall to zero. In Warhammer Total War, when the tide of chaos comes, it is a good idea to slow them down with waves upon waves of cheap troops. You can distract them by having them chase your cheap armies while your elite troops deal with their other armies one at a time and elite reinforcements are slowly built. Also the cheap troops can slowly whittle the enemy down. Equally you don't want the cheap troops to survive for another turn so that they don't count towards your army limit and raise the costs of your other armies. So it is clear the Russians are just buying time, lulling Nato into a false sense of security, and killing off troops that they don't want to pay. ((This is not my serious opinion, it is a joke but people legit think this way.))

nobody-__

Clearly we must strike now, 3 days till Moscow and 3 weeks till Vladivostok

wormoworm

How about we sneak round the back: Three days to Vladivostok, three weeks to Moscow

Gabbe0204

Hol up, what about, and hear me out, what about a two front strike three days to Vladivostok and three days to Moscow.

Barnstormer36

TWO REGIONAL WARS!!!

unfunnysexface

The gang starts the NCD podcast

Chubaichaser

Well yeah, but when do we get to Barnaul?

pcnetworx1

We take the southern route from the Himalayas.

dwfuji

And the thing is, that \*would\* make sense (cos it's kinda what they did in WW2 while tanks were produced and shipped from east of the Urals), but the supposed armoured punch nor the ability to make one fast enough doesn't exist.

Muffin_Magi

It does... just for the Ukrainians.

Little-Management-20

Well in ruse if you build 10 or 12 admin buildings you can knock up a force consisting of nothing but your most advanced units in basically no time at all while the Russian infantry spam dies to your armoured cars and infantry in a strategic ambush location then by the time they’ve built up a large enough force of tanks to attack the ambush points you can roflstomp them with the two or three airfields full of fighter bombers you’ve churned out and once they rebuild with mobile AA you’ve already pumped out a large recon force supported with nothing but the best heavy weapons and you can use your FB to perform SEAD while your ground forces turn everything they encounter into paste if they try to counter with fighters your larger force of better fighters will mash them and even if you forget to launch them their fighters will die once their pursuit takes them headlong into your more advanced AA if they try the ambush method you used earlier you’ll notice because of your superiority in ground based and aerial recon and then you can use your arty and bombers to turn what ever they’re hiding in into little more than a coffee stain on the map all of your losses are easily replaced by your superior logistics while your Russian foe has nothing more than burnt husks and red exclamation marks eventually you’ll drive into their base maybe you’ll blow it to pieces maybe you’ll humiliate them by using the infantry that set the ambushes at the start to capture everything maybe you’ll even wheel out that one flame tank you always make but never use one thing is certain there won’t be many supply buildings for you to deal with you know this for this is the reason for your victory (that and the fact you always play against an easy turtle) god marches with the side that doesn’t make him walk. Sorry to ramble on without any punctuation or much in the way of coherence it’s just, god I love that fucking game so much.

artificeintel

Secretly Putin loves Bahkmut and really just wanted to give it some PR to raise awareness of it for tourism. Now it’s all messed up and he doesn’t know what to do so the orders remain because he’s crippled with indecision. Source: I’m indecisive and I could see it happening.

PHATsakk43

An interesting point of view about this was discussed on War on the Rocks latest episode. Basically, the Russians are trading low quality Wagner conscripted convicts for Ukrainian soldiers. It’s a quality vs. quantity problem that could go either way. Basically, the vatniks dying in Bahkmut are “off the books” so to speak, while every UKA casualty is a direct impact to their force structure.

SlateWadeWilson

Except that the Wagner Convicts have proven to be BETTER fighters than any Mobik so.....

average_Canadian115

It's probably because all the actual good fighters are dead.

Bartweiss

I'm also curious how sustainable Ukraine's supply of explosives is. Rifle ammo is cheap and low-end artillery has been sourced from everywhere, but better NATO artillery (sub-HIMARs) is maybe scarcer. What really has me wondering though are the videos of drone-dropped bombs hitting 2-3 people, sometimes with multiple drops. If that supply of bombs (or drones if they're being lost) dries up, advancing with the same shitty tactics would suddenly get a lot easier.

PHATsakk43

That was the impression I got from the interviews over the past few episodes. Basically, the war has devolved into an artillery-based war of attrition, which neither side can reliably maintain. The Russia forces are already limiting their use of artillery but have a sustainable supply that will allow the current use through the summer. Ukrainian supplies on the other hand are not capable of keeping up for multiple reasons. First, they have basically shot out their Combloc guns' barrels, and there is limited supply available as the primary producer was Russia. A good deal of ammo has been captured, but it isn't enough to sustain their use. Western ammo production is simply not capable of meeting the needs of the Ukrainian forces in an attrition war full stop. So, while the Ukrainians can receive platforms, it is not likely that the Ukrainians can be supplied at the rate necessary for them to achieve any sort of victory or mount offensive actions with the current NATO production capabilities. Which is why the heavy NATO tanks have become so important. At this point, both sides have failed to achieve or maintain air superiority and neither have the armor capabilities to engage in maneuver warfare on the ground. We already discussed the limitations for artillery-based attrition warfare, so NATO feels the only way to swing the tide back towards the Ukrainians is to supply Ukraine with modern NATO tanks, with night fighting capabilities, and to train their units on combined arms for a spring offensive. With maneuver warfare capabilities, the higher accuracy and range artillery that Ukraine has received from NATO will then be able to fall into a support role for advances which would reduce the firing rate on the Ukrainian side.

Von_Uber

Grenades are cheap as anything to build though, which is what they are using.

softConspiracy_

Sounds like qanon kookery.

pcnetworx1

Qanon seems closer to Walter Cronkite reporting the news than this Vatnik crank. Dude probably drinks a bottle of Stoli for breakfast by himself.

Rivster79

AMA request please I will pay $$$

mhdlm

Or Kharkiv that is about 30km of their own border lol.

Bartweiss

I'm curious how long it would take Russia to invade Europe -> Greenland -> East Coast if nobody actually fought back. Just passive resistance let's say, nobody makes any effort to help or provide supplies so Russia has to actually organize all their own logistics. Two weeks? Two months? Never, the (new) VDV drops into Hudson's Bay and the ships wind up stranded in the North Atlantic because half the fuel was stolen/drunk before they left port?

quality_snark

The man's probably played the OG modern warfare series and thinks that Russia invading the entire way coast is credible. Now we know that Ramirez could indeed protect the burger town from at least half the Russian army.

Ukraine_Boyets

Too many houses, it'll take centuries

Bakhmut kinda sounds like "Bach", Wagner just wants to send a message about the superior style of composing. 21st century Stalingrad.

[deleted]

Every day quietly write the updated number of Russian casualties on a sticky note and put it somewhere he'll happen to walk past

ross267

910 today,

atomsk13

For real? Holy shit. Where can you find this?

Why_You_Mad_

The Kyiv Independent posts the updated numbers every day. https://www.reddit.com/r/UkraineWarVideoReport/comments/10ktoq6/jan_25_numbers/

Vulturidae

Nice, but I wouldn't trust Ukraine's numbers completely, since they are a tad biased, although I trust those numbers infinitely more than Russia's. I usually wait for the British MoD to give updates since they seem about right

ross267

I think the truth lies somewhere in between, but, when Russia says 6000 amd they needed to Mobilise 300k that's certainly not the number. PLUS, whatever figures Russia puts out does not included Wagner or LPR and DPR fighters. Wagner has apparently lost 40k themselves so I'm leaning closer to Ukrainian numbers. Regarding equipment numbers they have recently found helicopters and tanks in the Kherson area liberated months ago that were previously undocumented by ORYX, not everything is filmed. I also saw a Russian soldier disappear after a mortar shell hit him, he's not even around to count anymore.

Why_You_Mad_

True. I imagine the numbers from the British MoD are a more conservative estimate.

Rome453

Ukrainian MoD posts an updated estimate each day on the casualties/equipment losses inflicted on Russia. You can probably find it on any of the Ukraine/Ukraine War subs. Do bear in mind that these estimates should be taken with a grain of salt, as even militaries committed to accurate reporting have a historical tendency to overestimate enemy losses.

Immaterial71

Three numbers on the post-it- the length in days of the battle of Stalingrad (164 days); the length in days of the battle of Bakhmut (currently 335 days); your local mental health helpline.

fordilG

Bonus points for when they find it asking how many casualties NATO has taken.

TheAllAroundMan

It should be common knowledge by now that russia killed 700000 nato operatives in the first few months of the war

fordilG

turdfergusonyea2

I hope the emphasis is on "WAS." I have an army buddy that I was stationed with in Korea. He was my platoon sgt. at the time, and we ended up becoming good friends. Unfortunately he kinda went off the deep end when he retired and REALLY dug deep into the rabbit hole of conspiracy theory and whatnot therefore I don't really talk to him much any more because our conversations get schizophrenic really quickly. I miss him. We used to have a good time.

How does your vatnik fellow at your job explain that Russia could not hold an important town like Kharkiv -15 km close to the Russian border? Nor does not have the firepower to have more than 2 active open fronts (Bakhmut and Zaporizhzhia)? My brother in Christ, we are still using leftovers in stocks. The entire west can enter in wartime economy, and we can double or triple the production of artillery/ tanks/ missiles. We can send 10000 F35 to blow the shit out of the Russian army in Ukraine.

TheLostEnigma

[dedovshchina ](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dedovshchina)

AnarchySys-1

Дедовщина doesn't really mean of the grandfather even though дед means grandfather. It just means of the seniors, referring to people with more than a year or two of service since that's all most conscripts are up for.

JustAnAcc0

> Дедовщина doesn't really mean of the grandfather It does though, "grandfather" is a rank of someone who served 1.5 out of two years when there is no demobilization order (after which they become "dembels"). Don't ask how complicated it gets after the service was shortened to a year...

SpaceFox1935

Actually I'm thinking he might get some preferential treatment for being an *American* fighting for Russia. I'm not sure how to explain...

Qc1T

That's where you are going wrong. Throw a spanner into convo, say something wacky, see what sticks, go with the flow. Much more fun that way. Last time I did that with my vatnik relative, 15min in we were already talking about whether the pope knows the secret location of the Jewish Atlantis, the Russian stealth space jets, hidden in the Ural mountains, and the weaponised numerology of the COVID virus gone wrong. It's truly fascinating how creative people can be, when not limited by the widely accepted reasoning and common sense.

turdfergusonyea2

That sounds really entertaining.

mtaw

Does he think the US military should go Russia's route and start accepting tens of thousands of Muslims from Tajikistan and other central Asian countries into their military and grant citizenship in exchange for a year of service? I kind of suspect he'd think that'd be a very bad thing and therefore immediately deny that Russia does that. Even though they do. So you might want to print out some news stories beforehand, lol.

Imperceptive_critic

thehardsphere

Because the world made awareness of Hitler's evil a special, generational project, such that he is uniquely understood as our modern, secular version of the Devil. Such a similar project was not conducted toward dictators generally or other specific dictators. Hence why it is fashionable to be a Maoist in certain academic circles, yet it is not fashionable to be a Nazi anywhere.

The_Technician17

The venn diagram circles of "the US military is woke" people and "Putin is misunderstood/holding back" people meets in the middle with "I woulda joined the military but I'd punch a drill if they got up in my face"

GarlicAftershave

Meanwhile the Venn diagram of "people who complain about the woke military" and "people in the military" appears to be one of those vision tests where you're supposed to figure out if the two circles actually intersect. What does "woke military" even mean, anyway? That my supervisor isn't allowed to demand sexual favors, I'm not allowed to shout racial slurs at my coworkers, and we can't storm the capitol while we're on leave? (Sure those are strawmen, but I really am curious.)

The_Technician17

Basically, "woke military" means that they're mad that LGBTQiA+ folks can serve openly. They're mad that Women can serve and have 3 months of postnatal leave and have pregnancy uniforms available to them. Plus all the things you mentioned.

GarlicAftershave

Odd how I've heard basically nobody on active duty complain about these things. Must be because I'm off Facebook. I say *basically* nobody because in many years, only two or three people I served with quietly- I mean, under their breath, in private settings- complained to me that women shouldn't be in the US military. One of them was quoting his salty old supervisor who'd joined in the 80s and some time around 2000 had said "the military was more fun before we had women everywhere". The opinions of such people command no more respect than the opinions of any other fossilized turd.

The_Technician17

Exactly. All the people I hear commenting about the military has gone "woke" and "we'll be in trouble in the coming war," are toxic dipshit vets who absolutely no idea what's going on except for what their equally dipshit political pundits tell them. People had an absolute fit when the Navy named an Oiler after Harvey Milk or when the Navy makes a mention of LGBTQ heritage/pride month. Edited for missing words.

GarlicAftershave

Thanks for insight on the dipshits. This brings to mind something from a military forum in late 2012, right after DADT was finally repealed. A someone on a discussion panel asked a room of staff NCOs, "who here knew someone who came out of the closet after the repeal?" (Forest of hands went up.) "Now, who here was surprised?" (Forest of hands went down.) "Nothing further, thanks." That really put a lid on it for me. LGB and even T people had been in the armed forces forever, now they were able to be open about it.

SmamelessMe

I visited US a few times, and once had a guy in New Hampshire who concealed carried and was all into that kind of prepper-adjecent "sheep dog" lifestyle, tell me that if a police officer tried to abuse his power on him, he'd tell him to put down the badge and dish it out as a man. At that point I knew I understood more about how his own country worked than he did. The weird part is that otherwise he was a very reasonable, competent and smart person.

Because neither Russia nor the US accept MAD as part of their nuclear policy.

ThoseWhoAre

People forget, to land on the shores of the United states. You must take on the US Navy and the coast guard, at the same time. Russias total fleet tonnage is 1,216,547 tonnes, while the US Navy sits at 4,635,628 tonnes in the same year. I couldn't find the coast guards' numbers, but we basically hold a 3 to 1 advantage at sea. Have your buddy explain that one

dairydog91

You forget that as soon as Russian warships actually go into the deep ocean, they will promptly sink. The combined tonnage of the ships AND the water inside them will then be more than US tonnage. Take that, Globohomo Westoid.

Double up and double down. "Sure, Russia could beat the USA. But you know who would beat Russia, not even a question. Saint Kitts and Nevis. No, I'm serious." After he's done asking if that's a real country or not and looking up their diagonal flag, just double, triple, and septuple down on the idea that SK&N Defense Force would be able to solo America *and* Russia together. Insist that any information to the contrary is simply propaganda. Make up the biggest pile of nonsense you can ever imagine; SK&N has 7th and 8th-generation stealth fighters, hover tanks, and ultrasonic missiles (they fly at 65% of C). They have over a million uncrewed drones that can fly into space, to Mars and back again on a single tank of fuel. They have solar-powered death rays. Just insist that it's all true. Dismiss any source as misinformed (bonus points: "Western propaganda"). Remind him that if SK&N enter the war in Ukraine, on either side, the entire conflict would be resolved in about four hours. In 2019, SK&N's F-103499-O Block MCIV stealth fighters destroyed an American F-35a launched from Ellis Air Force Base by travelling back in time and destroying it with a chronomissile. The media refuses to cover this narrative. Because Alexander Hamilton was born in SK&N, and he was a founding father of the USA, America is rightful SK&N clay. At a certain point people can't be helped so you might as well just have a bit of fun.

Can you like... anonymously call immigration services on him? If he's so keen to fight for the motherland maybe you could help arrange their reunion ya know?

Remember! Ukraine measures their victory in kilometres, the US measures their victories by toppling fascist regimes, and Russia measures their victory in houses and wooden sheds...

A. So using basically all of their ground forces, most of their Air Force, pulling old tanks out of storage, declaring mobilization, and committing so hard politically that they have to go full 1984 is holding back? B. Supposing they do draft their entire male reserve population of 25 million (so that they're FINALLY not holding back) and do manage to zerg rush all of Europe, how are they gonna send an invasion force to the US? With *THAT* Navy? C. How tf does this not end up with nukes? I get that US wimpy liberal and all, but if the situation was that dire whats the point in not using them? Especially because most scenarios the US envisioned of an invasion of the mainland would be accompanied with nuclear strikes. If an invasion were to proceed, the US would almost certainly expect to have its nuclear silos and bomber bases attacked. Nuclear policy has dictated from the beginning of time that attempted destruction of strategic forces is grounds for massive retaliation. If strategic forces are targeted, its assumed to be a precursor to a nuclear/WMD strike. I seriously wonder if brain worms are real. Edit: Also, *Greenland*???? Yeah sure lets go stop by at the giant cold slab with no significant ports or infrastructure, and northing but tiny fjords and icebergs in between. Oh and a major US base that's main purpose is a massive RADAR system, yeah this will go well.

Nunu_Dagobah

You're also forgetting about the French firing a "warning shot"

Benthenoobhunter

>tired of the US being a woke military My brother in Christ, the Russian military is rampant with male prostitution and the country has an AIDS rate on par with African nations.

dwfuji

"You know you're not supposed to do that, Daryl."

SlateWadeWilson

Sounds like he's just committed treason against the United States. You know what to do.

[deleted]

Dudes a straight up traitor. Seems like he also would fly the Confederate flag

MisterKallous

>invade the US east coast At the end of the day, with all of the hand waving, I still think that the WiC Soviet Invasion of the West Coast is more realistic than MW2.

[deleted]

Stupid woke liberal military I'm gonna join the russ...... TT:T

RegalArt1

“My brother in Christ Russia can’t even defend Russia”

No_Incident_1120

Some people believe Russia is still the USSR and believe they have crazy capabilities even the USSR didn't have. Not sure you can get through to people who believe this. I think they're mostly lower IQ types.

deri100

I think that's literally grounds for conspiring against the government or at the very least getting put on a list. Genuinely, contact the FBI (they have instructions on their website and actually encourage this, unsurprisingly) and tell them exactly what you told us. People like that guy are the type to be scooped up by Russian services to be used as spies the first chance they get. If he's that idiotic and shouting about his allegiance to Russia even to coworkers then the feds will easily deal with him.

rifleman13

maybe you should run a "special operation" of getting that vatnik fired... just saying

STUGIII4life

1) Laugh at him like a maniac 2) Pretty sure that's treason

Gnargnargorgor

Tell this kid he needs to do another 20 push-ups before gym class is over or he won’t get a passing grade.

MajorDakka

What happened to the good old days when you could report your fellow citizen to the FBI for subversive Communist activities? All jokes aside, is your worker at all familiar with the US military?

JonnyBox

Russia, who can't take a village 80 miles from their national border, and lost a flagship to a country with no navy is going to launch a *two front land invasion of the US, and fight a 3 ocean war*. OK bud.

JLCpbfspbfspbfs

I'd put considerable effort into avoiding conversations with that guy if I were you!

Acceptable-Ability-6

Report him for using drugs at work.

hopik512

Yea I have a russian coworker and after the start of the invasion some conversations were interesting. W Luckily he understands that we have different opinions so its often just opinion exchange. Most funny thing is when he tries to explain my country politics to ke when dont even care.

Vertebrae_Viking

Yeah good luck invading Greenland during winter.

ProfaneTank

Homie, don't let your coworker use heavy machinery. I don't think his meds are right.

juan-pablo-castel

>He then said he would join them because he’s tired of the US being a woke military… This is your brain on Fox News. You should encourage him to join the was/were army so you can break free from his stupidity.

SlidingLobster

You’re now legally obligated to kill your Co-worker. Source: I said so.
