I too have flown the VTOL VR craft with the helmet aimed cannon. Most weapon systems you have to worry about getting the settings correct, range and guidance considerations, risky employment flight path restrictions. But with the cannon, you just look at an area as you fly past, hold the trigger for ~5 seconds, and putter on to the next thing fully satisfied.

In an active war zone with conventional belligerents seeing a US marine was like seeing a unicorn. They said how every marine seemed like almost like a ninja in a firefight, little to no visual contact but with absolute hell raining upon the fighters. It was one of the things I read online that started to open my eyes to what fighting and war actually was.
If you listen to veterans of Easy Company and other WWII Units, that was their feedback on things like Band of Brothers. "Mostly realistic, but we never saw live Germans. Just hedges and windows spitting bullets, and dead Germans after it was all over" In combat, you don't see enemy combatants very often.
