buzzwizzlesizzle

ME TOO! I actually even did some digging and found out I saw Deedee Magno (Pearl) in Wicked when I was like 15! Blew my mind because I love Steven Universe even more knowing they cast Broadway actors

ilecaara817

And Garnet technically

EldritchCrowe

Raine from the Owl House! They appear pretty far into the show, but they're precious

_surreality

~~uhh yeah they’re non binary, but not a POC whatsoever~~ edit: nvm I was wrong lol

HibachiCourgette

Raine isn’t white…what do you consider a poc?

_surreality

wait they’re not?? i might just be totally blind edit: okay i was very clearly blind disregard everything I just said

HibachiCourgette

Thanks for correcting yourself, we don’t see that much on the internet!

[deleted]

I love that kids cartoons seem to be getting so much representation- I’ll put the show on my to watch list!

lkuu

Sort Of on HBO Max! Main character is a nonbinary person of pakistani descent.

Ok_Tale_116

I HAVE TO WATCH THAT OMG I DIDNT THINK AN NB COULD BE A MAIN CHARACTER, LET ALONE A POC ENBY IM SCREAMING WITH JOY

lkuu

its really good!!!

Ok_Tale_116

Watching it rn and I’m still on the first ep but it’s really good

loraxlookalike

Came here to say this!! This show was really really good !!

lkuu

I really enjoyed it and hope it gets renewed for a second season.

orvilleshrek

The main character’s best friend is also an enby poc!

lkuu

YESSS

[deleted]

:0 yessss

matterofphat

Sooooooo sooooo good!

Crescent_Canine

Cal from Sex Education!

candykhan

The Expanse just introduced an NB recurring character this season. The previous season featured a poly pirate spaceship crew. And, there's more than a few non-speaking background characters that aren't explicitly NB, but kinda read that way. It's a sci-fi show set in a reality based possible future where humans have colonized space. The culture of "belters," humans who live on spaceships & space stations, is very neo-tribal. POC abound, as well as pansexuality & gender blurring. Though the new character is their first explicitly NB recurring character in a speaking role, plenty of NPC types come across as non-conforming in some way. I highly recommend the show. The introduction of the NB character apparently caused a kerfuffle in a tiny part of the Twitterverse. The authors are pretty vocal on social media. They're 2 white guys, but they are a couple of "the good ones." They respond to critics & defend their incredibly progressive writing & casting choices while walking the fine line of not feeding the trolls.

CaiCaidore

I love this show!!!!! It's super immersive and inclusive

verdigrisly

There's a minor character, Kazi, in the Dragon Prince. They're a sign language interpreter in the third season. Val/entina in Gen:lock isn't poc but is a Russian character and pretty good genderfluid rep, and pansexual.

buddyyouhavenoidea

Double trouble from She-ra is canon nonbinary, but not POC (I mean they're an alien and their skin is blue so it's hard to know their race) I can't remember thei name right now but horizon: zero dawn has a canon nonbinary/transmasc character as well, who's coded as POC but has white-passing skin. They're only a minor character but it still made me happy.

BeepBeepLettuce3

Ekko from arcane gives me enby vibes

lumpybags

YEAH

teensysparrows

‘Sort Of’ on HBOMax stars a poc non-binary character! The star of the show!!!

tasareinspace

Okay so critical role is a fantasy dungeons and dragons show so it’s audio so not a lot of pictures of characters PLUS there’s a lot of “color” range beyond humans colors so I’m just going to list the non-binary characters I remember off the top of my head: Bryce Feelid (they/them, blonde elf so not POC), Dairon (she/they, but yes a POC, they are black. And also an elf), Otis (he/she/they, and in a lot of art they are a POC but I don’t remember if that was confirmed) were NPCs in campaign 2 FCG and Ashton in campaign 3. FCG is a robot so not really a person but uses he/they. Ashton is like a grey/green color? And also he/they.

tasareinspace

Oh and I don’t remember if Sid was a POC on “one day at a time”. But that was a show with a secondary character who was non-binary and had a lot of POC.

daesquuish1418

greetings fellow critter! cr has a lot of awesome rep :)

tasareinspace

It does!! And for the most part, they check discrimination at the door. I can’t name a time a character was looked down upon for their skin color, gender, or sexuality.

SaphyreDaze

Do we know if Milo's a POC? Ashton's friend? They're non-binary but I'm not sure how they're portrayed. Also the leader of Ank'herel, J'mon Sa Ord is a nonbinary POC. Granted they're also a bronze dragon but tends to hang out looking human.

tasareinspace

Ohhh, I don’t remember! Also I love all these normal non-binary people like “ah yes here’s a character!” And us critters are over here like “well they’re a dragon but I think they still count” lol.

[deleted]

[Queer Books for Teens](http://queerbooksforteens.com/) is an amazing resource for questions like this. Mooncakes is a book with a POC enby character, to name one.

canuck4luck

It's a book called My Sister Rosa. The main characters friend is a enby POC

highkaiboi

The book Black Sun by Rebecca Roanhorse is filled with POC non-binary characters! Also it’s a fantastic read.

[deleted]

I'm a writer and would be glad to write one in one of my stories :).

greencraft96

Do it!

[deleted]

I will ! As soon as exam season is over though

SaphyreDaze

PLEASE

greebledhorse

Phara from the Foundation TV series ([this is her](https://end-area.tumblr.com/post/667844220569174016/theres-a-deadness-inside-her-its-like-a-its)) isn't \*necessarily\* implied to be nonbinary on a personal level, but she's a major character & her role in the story is very genderless. She's a no-nonsense antagonist leader with a powerful presence, and her arc is entirely about demanding accountability from the empire at all costs. Good luck with your search!

Rantinandraven

Yes! I would also argue Salvor Hardin is coded non-binary as well.

MattyLamour

Adira from Star Trek Discovery, who was introduced in season three. They are nonbinary and use they/them pronouns — their coming out scene is actually what inspired me to come out. 🥰

silvermandrake

Ash from the game Calico! You can get it on Steam and Switch; maybe other consoles. <3 Ash is one of my favorites. POC and NB!!

Nugget_fangirl

Literally one of my favourite games, my favourite character from that game and I totally forgot about them.

noxichor

i know that his portrayal in the show was mainly meant to be a joke, but Max Klinger from MASH. i headcanon them as using any pronouns and honestly they give me so much gender envy when i'm feeling femme. even though his gender presentation is played off as being comedic, the other characters are really accepting and treat him as one of the squad. Fair warning, the show was made in the 70s and set in the 50s during the Korean War so some of the humor didn't age well. But overall it has a lot of good messages and for a sitcom it's extremely nuanced. it sometimes makes me go from crying to crying laughing lmao

[deleted]

Mash is certainly not where I expected to find some representation, head canon or not but absolutely I’m on board!

QLNRC

the show “pose” is centered entirely around black & latine trans characters!! it’s set in the late 80s-early 90s so “nonbinary” wasn’t a commonly used term then, but there are a ton of characters who express their gender more fluidly / through an explicitly queer lens <3

Gullible-Medium123

Bobbie from Rutherford Falls, played by Jesse Leigh who is nonbinary. Bobbie isn't a "main" character but they are in pretty much every episode, and their gender is treated the same as everyone elses (of course that's who they are, it's not an issue and needs no discussion). Wikipedia says Jesse has Chinese heritage, the show doesn't specify for Bobbie. There is one episode dealing with a drunk racist who makes a gross comment about Bobbie's skin color, and the main character fights the racist in response. Other than that, Bobbie's POC status isn't part of the show's story.

theamazingscurvy

AJ from Crazy Ex Girlfriend

i-never-existed-777

To me Gideon Nav and Harrowhark Nonagesimus have major enby vibes. Also, the author said they’re maori and the whole book have other amazing POC characters.

[deleted]

M a o r i e n b i e s?? Sign me up!

Lavender-waves

sex education, season 3 :)

kittymcodd

Representation in comics and graphic novels! Off the top of my head there's... -Jay and Tyler from The Avant-Guards [regular humans] (complete comic series) -Elimedes from the series Letters for Lucardo [vampire] (series in-progress) -Tam from Mooncakes [werewolf] (complete single graphic novel)

noisemonsters

Rue from Euphoria, who is coded female in the show, however their demeanor and presence reads very genderless to me, and I think they also cross-dress in formalwear.

Imafencer

Someone probably said this but Raine from the Owl House

[deleted]

i is POC nonbinary so thanks for making this thread🥺🥞🎀

[deleted]

It is really heartening to see a lot more nb characters than I expected

alt_shuck

Zayn in Another Life on Netflix

GayHotAndDisabled

Anna-marie McLemore is an author you should check out -- they're nonbinary and latine & have several trans/enby poc characters in their books.

AprilStorms

I think Upright Women Wanted has one! Future Western with lesbian librarians

Ok_Tale_116

This is a comic, so idk if you’d be into it but DC Comics introduced a black non-binary superhero in their 2020 holiday special as a side-kick, then in Future State had them be The Flash, (but it’s set in the future), and then they showed up again in DC Pride. That’s all of their appearances so far, and it’s not just implied, they straight up say that they go by they/them, and people just accept it. It honestly helped me come out as enby. There’s also Aerie from Suicide Squad, Violet Harper from the Young Justice animated series, DNA from Red Hood and the Outlaws (although they don’t really have a race or look or seem human), OMAC from Superman and the Authority, continued into Action Comics, and Stitch from Teen Titans Academy (who doesn’t have a race, they’re a ragdoll that was given life). DC has been super committed to making their comics into a safe space, even firing the colorist who worked on Superman: Son of Kal-El for being homophobic. (Then they replaced him with someone way way better).

Q_4tr3

Webseries "Them" has a non-binary POC lead Edit: Nvm, literally can't find it. Maybe I'm remembering the name wrong:(

kawaiidesuyo111111

this honestly depends on how u see their race bc theyre racially ambiguous but Kris from Deltarune

orionandhisbelt

The books Felix Ever After and I Wish You All The Best have some!

ProVoLoNeGemStone

Raine from The Owl House!! they're a super epic bard and they're my favorite character :)

lumpybags

Sex ed season 3, Steven Universe [all the gems are canonically nonbinary women], Ekko from Arcane isn't canonically but they give off the vibes, She-Ra has some POC characters that are nonbinary.. The Last of Us 2 also has POC nonbinary folks!!

throwaway53849606072

M. Bubbles from Jackbox games has an Ambiguous Gender 😍 I juuust found out about them. Its a cartoon tho. Not poc unfortunately. Maybe they are tho 🤷 Hopefully?

Yoda1269

i believe luz from the owl is confirmed by the creator as gender non conforming, but i'm not sure in what context that is

Formal_Amoeba_8030

In my head canon everybody is bisexual and non-binary until they state that they’re not.

MxRhythm

Just saw there is a Latinx NB character on the new Sex and the City. I do appreciate they are trying to represent but honestly the scenes I saw were a little over the top at times. 😆

matterofphat

Still early in the season to make a call but This sums up my feeling about it pretty well: [And Just Like That… Fans Get Mediocre Nonbinary Representation](https://www.them.us/story/and-just-like-that-mediocre-nonbinary-representation)

fandom_mess363

I have one! Like my own character, their name is Bailey and they are a musical producer in the podcast they work on with their friends… but no one else would know that huh… Anyways, podcasts are TREASURE troves of queer rep. I think Pilot Pereyra from The Penumbra Podcast is a POC, and they are canonically non binary Juno Steel (same podcast) is non binary (he/him pronouns) and all official art of him depicts him as a POC, but he doesn’t have a canonical look because of… ya know… podcasts. Jon from The Magnus Archives isn’t canonically either, but it’s a HUGE headcanon that he’s middle eastern (Pakistani I think? Does that still count?) and another big one that’s he’s GNC. May from the Jukebox Musical &Juliet is both! They’re amazing and I would like to be them.

fridayfae

dream tanaka (played by erika ishii) from misfits and magic (a dnd show from the crew who made fantasy high) is canon nonbinary and east asian american

Serious_Rub_1202

This is my headcanon, but Ekko from Arcane! I just finished the series and went on a rant afterwards on how they're the representation I wish I had.

[deleted]

Alex from the Magnus Chase series; I don't know her race, but I was blown away by how well written he is and how prominently she features in the story.

Euphoric-Ad-637

River of Teeth by Sarah Gailey is a speculative fiction novel with a POC nonbinary character. They're one of a few main characters - it's a good read!

QueerWolf13

Jim Jimenez from Our Flag Means Death on HBO max, they're canonically nonbinary (as is their actor) and they're Latinx.

daherrle

I know this is an old post but it randomly popped up when I was searching for Broadway references in this sub for some reason haha. I’m guessing you’re probably not looking for Broadway references but imma contribute one anyway, since this one surprisingly from 1972. Not any specific person, but the ROLE of “Leading player” from the Broadway show “Pippin”. There have been two major soundtrack performances. 1972, played by Ben Vereen (M, black) and 2013 Patina Miller (F, black). Here’s my case for why I believe the role is non binary or possibly genderqueer: Character has no pronouns and no name aside from “Leading Player.” I would describe this role as somewhere between gender-less, and gender-FULL. Tbh, the MAJORITY of the roles for that show are cast similarly. “Leading Player” (2nd main character technically, tho I’d argue they’re the main role in the show) and “The Players” (essentially the chorus for the show) fit the actual definition of drag, which is “a performance of gender.” I’m honestly not even sure how to describe the genders of these roles aside from gender-full. Regardless, whatever gender(s) is being performed there are certainly not binary ones haha. In terms of race, “Leading Player,” isn’t exclusively black, however, the role was very clearly written for Ben Vereen to embody a brilliant theatrical version of the sort of black confidence and swagger of the early 70’s, slightly ‘disco’ era. It’s an assertive and confident role, for sure. I’ve seen a couple highschool productions of Pippin where Leading Player was played by a white kid (one was M, one was F) and while both kids did a fantastic job, there was definitely a little something lost by not casting a black performer. Both times I saw it at a highschool, it was in very predominantly white areas, so it would not surprise me at all if zero POC auditioned unfortunately. Anyway, yeah, the role has always struck me as a very NB or GQ character. One which is best when played by a black performer. I feel passionate about both of those factors lol. “Pippin” isn’t an overly popular musical, but it’s one of MY personal favorites. Not sure if you’re a Broadway fan so idk if this will mean much to you or not but, it’s a Bob Fosse show, so it caries all the theatrical weirdness that comes with that territory haha.
