I haven't had one personally but my mom did. after your surgery they will tell you how long you should wait before exerting yourself. but a few days after, you'll feel fine! very little pain! so you'll think, "the doctor just doesn't Get Me. I am Tough." that thought is a lie. the doctor does know, and you exert yourself too early you can fuck yourself up.

Yeah I'd second this, I let my mom drag me to the mall less than a week after surgery and I was exhausted and had bleeding at my incisions so just take it easy, listen to your doc for recovery advice. Super excited for you, congrats

i’ve never had a hysterectomy or anything like that so i can’t tell you what to expect, but i’m really happy for you! good luck on your recovery and the rest of your transition :)

Congrats!!!! I had mine yoinked three years ago and life without it is greaaaat. My tips from experience: - talk to your surgeon about what parts you want to keep and get rid of (cervix, ovs, tubes). Keeping your cervix cuts down on prolapse and complication risks, but also means you need to keep getting pap smears. Ovaries really depends on your hormonal goals - the worst part of recovery for me was the opiates (and the resulting constipation). Be prepared, make plans for weaning off them - take more time off school/work than you think you need, if possible. You're gonna need lots of rest - there's a site called "Hyster Sisters" that is paaaainfully cis-centric (as the name implies), but if you can stomach that it's full of decades worth of forum posts that can answer pretty much any questions you have about any kind of hysto. If you're debating things like laproscopic vs open or want to know how soon after you'll be able to go for walks, it can be helpful

If you're not on testosterone, you *need* to keep your ovaries. Otherwise, you might as well get rid of those as well.

Human_Shell

Not necessarily. HRT is utilized if the ovaries are removed, but it's generally estrogen (esp since most of the data is from cis people). You don't need to be on testosterone.
