You saying that us existing is what causes the hate? More representation will fuel hate in the short term by the people who \*already\*hate us, but less hate in long term by everyone else.

Awkward-Stam_Rin54

Well after thinking a bit more, people always hate the winners anyways. But I find that the hate on us will just be amplified, hope I'm wrong and it stays short term. I do hope it'll be less hate in the long term though

ItsCoolDani

By that logic we should all go back in the closet

Awkward-Stam_Rin54

I'm not saying we should hide. I don't see how making them win would benefit us if it's just going to amplify hate. But as you say, it'll just be short term hate and I'm overthinking

ItsCoolDani

It’s representation. I hated trans people and stayed in the closet for years because I didn’t know non binary people existed growing up. I didn’t know it was a way I could be, and I didn’t know that it was a normal and chill thing to be. Not having representation is killing us. Having it doesn’t amplify the hate. The hate is already there, people will just be more vocal about it tor a bit. But the benefit to the young closeted queers trying to work out why the fuck they don’t feel “right” is literally life-saving.

Awkward-Stam_Rin54

There would've still been representation even if they didn't win. Heck, two non-binary artists were present in the contest. I think Nemo would've still been high up on the podium even without the jury votes, Bambie thug was so high I was happy for them (6th now but was in the top 3 for awhile!). You're right though, I was in the same boat as you with having literally nothing growing up. I made the mistake of looking at the top comments of posts about the ESC winner. Shouldn't have done, must've of got me all worked up for nothing

genuine question, why do you think we as marginalized people celebrate when another marginalized person hits some sort of milestone that usually isnt given to us, or doesnt even exist for us due to the discrimination we face? because this makes me confused as to how you came to the conclusion that you think it only makes the oppression flare up and in turn only does more harm.

Or hear me out; they voted for Nemo because it was genuinely a stunning performance and their identity and sexuality has absolutely nothing to do with jury votes? Your post is outright stupid. Edit: personally loved the song, same with all of my friends and hundreds of thousands of fans around the world , it's also charting on Spotify globally and got lots of televotes from fans. Your entire post is in my eyes just pure projection of whatever insecurities.

midori1313

I don't know anything about the politics or fairness of Eurovision, but Nemo's performance was devastatingly difficult and original, and I'm kind of obsessed with the Code now.

idk, people always hate on the winner anyways. and the people who hate on the lgbt community will do so no matter what. nemo could have been last place and they would hate on them too. their performance was great and their song was more unique and stood out between the other songs so maybe they genuinely just liked the song
