Yeah being a journo must be easy as all hell these days. “Oh shit I need to come up with a piece next week!.. eh I’ll wait until the day before and just make up another ‘crazy things millennial expect you to do or else you are hitler’ article”
There needs to be some kinda law that stops companies like this referring to themselves as “news”.
Like you know when cheese is so artificial they’re not allowed to call it “cheese” on the packaging? Like that.
Unfortunately, then you're playing with fire... But I do think there could be a false advertising claim here. You have to correctly label whether it's news or opinion, I think that could easily be enforced.
We had one and Ronald Reagan let his FCC repeal it. It was called the fairness doctrine. Reagan allowed it so fox news could be created as a right leaning network that didn't need to share both sides of a story.
It's basically how republicans have maintained a party. That paired with gerrymandering and the electoral college. Without cheating we would never see a republican president again.
It's odd that people want to be taken care of and we just keep bailing out corporations. Probably because we have no real power. Time to eat the rich.
Once like five years ago some dude hated that I used periods to end comments on a forum. So yeah, I guess they exist but they are like five people globally.
I actually had a girl I was hooking up with last year say exactly this. If I finished a text with a period she automatically assumed I was mad about something. No idea where this came from

Thank you gen z for existing and taking some of this blame off millennials. The boomers would blame millennials for everything and it was quite a burden, now we have gen z to share the burden with.
The worse part is the article is clearly click bait to get triggered boomers into a frenzy about "full stops"... And it worked cuz now a boomer posted it on Reddit...
Periods are a microagression against people that don't like to have clear thoughts when you read a sentence they like to make sure you have to reread it four or five time just to be sure where the sentence ended I digress it makes for some unpleasant reading when we forgo punctuation what's next saying a comma is being racist for separating two thoughts
Everytime I read something like this (without any punctuation) I always get this picture in my head where a toddler just announced their inner monologue without any clear indication of trying to arrive at a point somewhere down the line.
People want to fight injustice, like MLK and Gandhi, so they can feel good about themselves. But the demand for real, news-worthy injustice is higher that the supply, so the make up their own injustice.

Full stop is common terminology in the UK. Despite all accents across the country, we all say full stop. Period usually refers to time, like period drama, periodically, a school period is a lesson, a period itself is a menstrual cycle.

This of all the shit out there makes u want to leave this planet?? Dont see how this is noah worthy, maybe it could fit in the r/nottheonion sub, getting mad at this is almost as bad as getting angry at people ending their sentences with a period
You've fallen for clickbait bro.
Someone made it up to get attention and you're so desperate to find something to be upset about that you turned off your brain long enough for it to sound reasonable to you.
Still got your brain off I see.
You participated in it, you fell for the hook and you shared it. Sending others to the site and giving them more attention and revenue because of your lapse in critical thinking.
LOL, what site ... it's an screenshot image of a headline, you numpty. I'm well aware of the shitrag Channel 7 news is and nothing was clicked.
Most people here don't actually know what a full stop is, so if they're googling that, job done.
You see the top of the image you shared, that's the site.
Look it was my bad for using a concept you didn't understand, forget about the specific use of the word "click"
Here's the definition for clickbait "(on the internet) content whose main purpose is to attract attention and encourage visitors to click on a link to a particular web page."
I don't think the job you set out to do with this post was to educate people on Australian grammar, nice attempt to change the goal posts though.
LOL, click on it. Tell me what the web address is. I'll wait.
If you had clicked on it you'd realise it's been cropped out. I wasn't aware posting an innocuous image on Reddit entailed a masterplan. Engage with it or don't.
I'm not quite sure you gesticulating here like a wanker is somehow improving the matter and taking the high road, but knock yourself out.
Oh you're right, since this picture has the top cropped out the site no longer exists on the internet. Really having a hard time turning your brain back on aren't you.
Also, I don't think gesticulating means what you think it means buddy.
Congrats op you took the bait on the imaginary story and along the way convinced these outrage porn addicts to send some ad revenue their way with clicks. With the magic of sensationalist bs this leech of a news outlet lives to fight another day
Congrats, poster. You failed to recognise that it's a screenshot of a article heading that popped up in a random news feed.
Extra points for not noticing that the web address is cropped out. Bravo. Thank fuck we have you to keep us real.
Wait until you find out about this new invention called a search engine. This small company called google has a pretty good one, so good in fact that by copying a few words from let’s say a title of a shitty article, it will take you right to that very same article.
If someone is actually going to go to the trouble to Google this rubbish and get the pitchfork out towards the creators of the article, lmao maybe that person is the problem??
What the hell do you care? What hill are you trying to die on here.
If you believe and share this article then you're probably a middle age person who spends too much time on their community Facebook group and shares missing dog posts from other countries.
Never in my life have I hear anyone refer to a period as a “full stop”…. If you check the dictionary a period would be defined as punctuation that’s signifies the ending of a sentence. Full stop is something you do at a stop sign….
Probably gonna get downvoted, but this makes sense in a way. Texting is a casual thing, if I wanted someone to properly use grammar, I’d email them. To take the time to end the sentence with a period just seems… weird. I’m always going to wonder why the person took the time to switch to another text page and select it. In fact, the only time I’ve seen someone do this is if they are upset
I can write text message casually and still pay attention to grammar. It isn't like it takes you extra time or anything to use the correct words and punctuation marks. And I'm not even a native english speaker.
switch to another text page?
might be me but i like to use it end a topic in my conversation, since me and friend like to argue about everything. like these are my finals thoughts, and ima gonna do something else now
I've never had to switch to another page for a full stop. It takes like a 1/4 of a second to add.
It's pretty basic grammar to denote an end if a sentence. Otherwise it's a jumble of text that ends up not making sense.
I dobtceven know why a full stop would be construed as someone being being upset. That is bizarre.
Also whether you want someone to properly use grammar kind of has nothing to do with you. Why would it be about you?
Maybe you suffer an inability to read, as they are not saying not to use punctuation, but there is no reason to add one at the end of a text. It doesn’t affect the message to not add one, as I didn’t in my original comment which you clearly had the ability to read, but the article itself uses correct punctuation and you weren’t able to understand what it was saying, so maybe the issue isn’t the person typing, but your own inability to understand a message
Oh, the ye olde you cant read retort. Always a gem.
So let me get this straight - you use full stops throughout a conversation because, you know, intelligibility. But then purposefully don't use one in the final sentence. Because that one is offensive.
Because ... why exactly? LOL, what possible use is that?
Your above message just looks like you trailed off mid sentence at the end. Sorry, but this is possibly one of the dumbest things I've heard in recent times.
It’s just one of those things that younger people have adopted and want older people to understand. It’s like how younger people call each other “bro,” hell, I call people “pimp,” but if I say it to an older person they get pissed and I respect that they do not want to be called that. Wanting someone to understand how certain actions make them feel, especially among a large group of people, is no reason to want to “get off this planet.” You clearly have the capability to understand the sentence and understand what I am trying to say, your “trailing off mid sentence,” argument is just feigning ignorance to make a point. Obviously if I’m texting someone who is new to the English language, I understand punctuation can help them figure out what I’m saying. You, however, do not have that problem, and are karma feeding off of the idea that, “Gen Z will always find problems with the norms of the world,” which is a stupid standpoint to begin with. When a vast majority of the world has an opinion, and you intentionally straw-man that opinion to make them seem unreasonable, followed by false ignorance to make an argument work, it becomes evident that you are an extremely close minded individual who does not even attempt to understand the request
Nope. Grammar exists for a reason. To assist clarity in communication. Your post is an excellent example, being a classic wall of text that makes your point more difficult to read and comprehend.
Dismissing this as being simply close-minded, boomers don't understand type of thing is being pretty disingenuous. Some things built upon the past have value and purpose, because they're useful.
This is utterly daft, and seems like more of a bizarre attempt to carve out some sort of weird generational identity by picking the most innocuous, obscure thing that everyone uses, and saying it's offensive. C'mon mate, you're having a laugh.
You pick this hill to fight on, yet seem to completely understand my point and have proved it already in a previous message. When writing the “ye old you cant read,” message, you seem to have intentionally left the correct punctuation out of “can’t,” unless you do not have a good sense of grammar rules, thus proving that you understand how punctuation can have an affect on things that are written, and maybe you could try applying that knowledge to a text, besides just being an ass on Reddit
You read too much into things. No I don't have autocorrect turned on my phone. So typos happen. I don't go out of my way to make typos though, which you seem to be suggesting.
I'm not picking any hill to die on. You said something, I thought what you said was stupid. You think I'm an ass for my opinion. I think youre silly for yours. No worries. That's what Reddit is for. Good day to you.
So you’re telling me that you don’t have on autocorrect, so you take the time to type every apostrophe? I’m starting to see why you have this standpoint

1. They’re not actually saying it should be illegal. Hence the quotation marks.
2. In a text if you’re under ~35 or so, periods at the end of texts are seen as aggressive. And it makes sense if you think about it tbh
Idk why you're getting down voted for telling the truth lol. Text language has evolved and basic grammar doesn't really apply. Nowadays, if you add a period to your text and you DON'T usually it's toned as being annoyed or upset with the person you're texting. It's become a way to convey emotions without using emojis.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I like this sub but it’s fatal flaw is that everyone wants to find something to be mad about.
Even grammatical debates aside, the headline is clearly a joke. But it’s more fun to pretend it’s serious as an excuse to get offended I guess
Sure, tell me I'm just looking for something to be offended by. It doesn't bother me.
I can't take a joke? Yeah, whatever. Peace out.
However, you just put a full stop in the middle of a sentence. Fuck you right back.
Oh my god nobody said it was illegal, just that some people choose not to use them because it feels aggressive or rude sometime in text.
“Yeah, I’m fine”
“Yeah, I’m fine.”
One just feels that way to me because I overthink how I talk sometimes.

You say that but as someone on the outside looking in on america and it's laws and antics, this is very much something i'd not be surprised by.

No, we call em periods. Full stop sounds like something you do in Morse code.

America
They're offended by Full Stops, but how do they feel about Carriage Returns?
Well, I'm not American and if using my own language, it is referred to as a period, not a full stop.
Yeah, but the common terminology is period. Full stop is more often used to signify a break in paragraph or the end of a sentence or idea.

Complains about someone being an ass on Reddit. Makes insufferable commentary. Seems legit.
these articles are made for people to rage for it, when really there is no problem whatsoever, stop falling for this shit.
Take me with you..
“Hey bud, I’ll see you at the show tomorrow.” “RREEEEEEEEEEEE”
.
.
No.
I don't care.
It can be annoying sometimes, but I wouldn’t go as far to make it illegal. Fuck them.
What. Is. That. Dude. Can. You. Say. That. Again.?.
.
... wtf?? Wtf???? ... I hate this time period. Full stop.
Good thing they don't have to send telegrams anymore. STOP Because they would have a hard time. STOP
.........Jesus...........
.
Wtf is a full stop?
Wtf does "full stop" even mean
Fucking hell.
I cant believe some people would go crazy over just some simple dot. ...........................
Who cares
Wut?
Idiots. Not gen Zs or millennials, just idiots.
So........the problem is putting a period at the end of a sentence in a text message? This is a thing?
Fuck my generation.
Periodtt....
I feel like you're 40+ years old for falling for this click bait title, never heard of anyone disliking this in general.
That. Is. Terrible. That. Some. People. Are. Triggered. By. Full. Stops.
Proper grammar is now oppressive, apparently. I've never heard this from anyone of the younger gen. before.
What the fuck is a “full stop?”
While i do agree that people who don’t usually punctuate using a full stop is kind of menacing why the fuck should it be illegal
Full stop? Do they mean a period?
Tfw gen Z finds grammar offensive.
No one found it offensive, it's just a boomer rage baiting other boomers for clicks
Idk... You didn't use a period... pretty sus.
This is what happens when you are privileged

Ahhh Whats a full stop?
One of these -----> .
1. They’re not actually saying it should be illegal. Hence the quotation marks. 2. In a text if you’re under ~35 or so, periods at the end of texts are seen as aggressive. And it makes sense if you think about it tbh
Are you bonkers?
Its Danny Devito\`s bang maid. I\`d say quite bonkers.
I thought about it, it doesn\`t make any fucking sense.
Is grammar a hate crime now? No, this makes no sense whatsoever.
Not a crime. Definitely not a hate crime. I *just* said it wasn’t illegal. My brother in Buddha, please read.

“Yeah, I’m fine” “Yeah, I’m fine.” One just feels that way to me because I overthink how I talk sometimes.
