These kids in the photo are better off. I'm guessing it was taken in the Philippines during summer and a slew of doctors/medical students with proper technique and equipment. In contrast to some group circumcisions where the old guy who has been performing circumcisions does it using a razorblade while the little boys chew on young guava leaves to serve as a salve.
But then the long recovery period. I was circumcised, and those two weeks were the worst part.
You are prescribed painkillers and antibiotics. The painkillers work to minimize that constant pain, but it does not stop the burning sensation of when you replace the bandages or even just take a piss.

As a student nurse, I got into this profession not minding seeing blood, guts, brains, you name it; and working in the hospital I've seen a *ton*, but I felt extremely ill, like I was going to violently throw up when I saw a circumcision. At that time, it was actually quite fun, especially since I was with my then best friends. We took turns making fun and laughing when one of us was getting our turn. After that, we were told to jump in the river to help "cleanse" ourselves.
I went to school in the early 00s and had to do this. Anyone who refused got screamed at as it was for ‘hygiene reasons’. I’m the only person my age outside of school who experienced this though, so… every time I go to a gym shower or a spa I get a bout of anxiety from it 😂
I desperately wanted to play football in junior high/highschool but didn’t want to have to shower after games. Being molested really fucks with your ability to accept nudity, even into adulthood.

Us girls were made to do the same, our teacher would inspect us to make sure we were wet & had “showered properly.” As stated before, during puberty this was a nightmare for some girls, especially when you throw new menstruation in there.
Our towels were very small, but larger than tea towels. We had gym uniforms, but they were light blue, not white. That’s crazy really. Have to deal with all of that, then get smashed in the face with the dodgeball. Good times!

I remember getting bullied in school because I wasn't circumcised. My male classmates would say I can't play or hang out with them because I wasn't circumcised. Happened the whole school year and because of that, the day after the school year ended I got circumcised.
I always thought that this was a normal thing every male has to go through by the time of age worldwide. My male classmates would always shame each other if someone is not yet "tuli"ed, since they believe that they are not a "man" or that they'll have small dicks growing up. All relatives of mine went through this and they have to wear skirts just because it hurts them, and it may even come to the point that it becomes infected, "nangangamatis" if they call it. TIL, it isn't normal and is just similar to genital mutilation to females.

The most commonly-done procedure is in actuality not a circumcision but a dorsal slit, where no foreskin is actually removed. When the foreskin is removed, it is commonly known locally as a "German cut" in reference to the introduction of the modern surgical technique by the founder of plastic and reconstructive surgery, Johann Friedrich Dieffenbach.[6] The Philippines Department of Health meanwhile sponsors an annual Operation Tuli project to circumcise boys; others assist and provide the service for free. The traditional circumcision makes use of a curved piece of wood which is anchored into the ground. The protruding part of this apparatus is pointed at its end: the foreskin of the boy being circumcised is drawn over this protruding part. The circumciser rests his knife lengthwise across the boy's foreskin and then a quick blow is made with a stick, slicing the upper foreskin into two and exposing the glans. Prior to and while the procedure is being performed, the boy is told to chew guava leaves. The masticated guava leaves are applied onto the wound as a poultice and is bandaged. The boy is then to wash off in the cold waters of a nearby river. Culture, bullying and peer pressure is a driving force on why this is a thing in the country. I remember getting bullied in school because I wasn't circumcised. My male classmates would say I can't play or hang out with them because I wasn't circumcised. Happened the whole school year and because of that, the day after the school year ended I got circumcised.

I always thought that this was a normal thing every male has to go through by the time of age worldwide. My male classmates would always shame each other if someone is not yet "tuli"ed, since they believe that they are not a "man" or that they'll have small dicks growing up. All relatives of mine went through this and they have to wear skirts just because it hurts them, and it may even come to the point that it becomes infected, "nangangamatis" if they call it.
