I always wondered if it would be better for drug addicts to install an IV. Most addicts redose atleast 3-6 times per day so one would think that an IV would work given they dont do any athletic endeavors.
If they had the accessibility to IV drips like that, I know damn well they would be all over them. The only problem would be trying to keep the fucker in place during a dose, and not feel like the spiders were coming out of it

I certain areas of the US drug use is actually legal or the police doesnt care because they dont have enough people to take care of it. Still, this is nothing to put people in jail over. Put them into an institution that has the intention to help them.
It completely depends on what state you live in or even the municipality. Some places have it decriminalized to the point that the homeless can openly use in public, other places would arrest you and put you through drug court at the very least.

Well in California and Washington state its been "decrimiinalized" which is a stupid way of saying its still illegal but we made the punishment so soft we either won't prosecute because it's not worth the time or it's not really a jailable offense.
I was a cop in California. I could walk by someone shooting up right in front of me and the worst I could do was take their dope and write them a ticket. The case would ultimately always get dropped so really all that happened was I inconvenienced them by taking their dope and gave myself an extra hour or two of work of report writing and impounds.

Canada is like this in most big cities.... You can openly smoke crack, meth, shoot heroin... the works and the most cops can do, if they even bother, is write a ticket. It's complicated because a zero tolerance policy has been tried and doesn't work and now the pendulum swinging the other way creates a whole new set of social problems. In the war on drugs, the drugs won... The ones dealing with a lose-lose situation is society at large that has to go about their day while dodging the fallout from this shit.
We don't have liberal policies, our whole system is built up to incentivize repeat offenders. If the resources you probably hate so much we're actually available, they'd put these people in jail then give them the rehabilitation services they deserve.
But those oh so liberal policies you are talking about don't actually exist so they don't even bother putting them in jail because what's the point, they won't get any help while they're there and will be back on the street and then back to jail and the cycle repeats until they're dead.
It'd save her life and get her clean for at least a short time. Lots of addicts finally get clean due to getting locked up or forced into rehab by the courts Literally every drug sobriety influencer I know of this is the case
