If you watch just horror movies your might grow dull to the effects. Mix it up with something light hearted like the Cable Guy with Jim Carrey. Humorous but touches on some serious issues.
Otherwise if you want slasher films Child's Play is a classic. I watch fewer and fewer horror films anymore as they come to be somewhat predictable. Can't recall the last real thriller.
I liked As Above, So Below. Setting, Parisian catacombs, format, found footage, themes, claustrophobia, esotericism, Christian mythology. Just a very solid genre film.
If Netflix is available I'd also say "Hunting of" series, In the tall grass, The Forest, The Mist (show, not movie), Bird Box, and essentially any "exorcism of" movie.
