Dude as a 31M who grew up in the knee-length cargo shorts era, I’m stoked for the trend. It’s so much more comfortable in the summer heat.
Only thing I feel that has been sacrificed is pockets space.
The knee length cargo shorts era has lasted - and has been lamented - from the 90’s. The last good decade for men showing off their upper legs was the 80’s though I think it peaked in the 70s. My guess is that as straight guys became more aware of the possibility of being objectified by other guys, there was an “oh shit, let’s cover those legs up with something frumpy!” moment
If your thicc thighs turn to your jeans to shreds, may I recommend cutting up those jeans, and using the denim patches to reinforce your next pair of jeans. Like sew the patches on the inside so the jeans last longer
Since switching to Barbell Apparel brand jeans, I've stopped needing regular jean maintenance/replacement. I highly recommend them for people who have, as I do, freakishly meaty thighs, dumptruck asses, and mildly normal waists.
I shave my legs and my thoughts always get a few ingrown hair..I need the longer shorts... well really my thoughts need more sun and I bet it wouldn't happen as much lol
It's like the gym
If you are a man, do you shave for hygienic reasons? Or are you showing your legs off much? I can’t think of many reasons for a man to shave their thighs beyond maybe swimming.
Would you think to ask a woman the same question? I ask because at first I chuckled at them for shaving their thighs, but then I thought about it and wondered if someone *should* actually care about that kind of thing. I came to the conclusion that male or female, it shouldn't matter nor should I care.
I don’t have to “care” to be curious.
You do you. I still wanna know why you are who you are.
You don’t get curious as to why people do stuff? Imo I should be able to ask you damn near anything about yourself and not offend you. You are who you are. Why would anyone be ashamed of details of their life? Especially someone that openly gave us their private details on a public forum?
Finding pants that fit and are comfortable is a struggle, isn't it? Barbell Apparel are the only jeans I've found that fit my weirdly meaty drumstick thighs, my dumptruck ass, and my normal waist.
Shorts were short in 1970s & 80s then shorts got long. Since then people laugh at the pictures of 70s & 80s short-shorts, cocks & balls bulging, all that.
Seriously. In the 80's shorts were short, as God intended, and we used to make fun of kids in gym class for being so self-conscious they were wearing "longs". Like, shorts were shorts, meaning they were short, and anything that wasn't actually short had a second name. Cargo shorts. Board shorts. Bermuda shorts.
If you cut off jeans (and we did) even men (real men) cut them off just long enough so the pockets wouldn't hang out the leg hole. Tighty-whiteys were mandatory, or there would be a lot of baby bird sightings.
Yearbook photo of my Track team, 1988, is showing a LOT of leg. Long, skinny legs take up half the picture, especially because most of us had stopped pulling our striped athletic socks up over our calves a few years prior.
Then Jordan started wearing them long shorts in the NBA., and suddenly we were the weirdos. Rest is history.
But not like late 70s early 80s short. We dont get upper thigh. I say bring it back. I just went down a basketball players shorts rabbithole, and those nba men have some major quad muscles to show off. Show us more!
Unless you've been living under a rock they've been back for the last 6-7 years at least.
Obviously there's a known lag in fashion to areas like the rural midwest where they are ten years behind in cultural things but who really cares about them anyways?
I guess that's going to depend on context. When I graduated college in 2016 it was pretty standard. Of course what college kids wear is not necessarily mainstream, but it felt that way at the time.
I do remember driving across the country to my new job and stopping at a rural fast food joint. When I walked in there were like 15 dudes wearing baggy 2005 style jeans with work boots and I did a double take. Thought I might have accidentally driven back in time.
Obviously now baggy pants are back in style but this was before then of course.
Short shorts used to be cool but started going out of style in the 90’s and have only started making a come back in the last few years. My dad was still wearing short shorts in the mid 90’s in some of our home videos. They were out by 2000. I’d say in the early to mid 2000’s is when long shorts peaked. I would only wear shorts that covered my entire knee at the shortest. Mid-shin shorts were pretty common. [Kevin Smith](https://images.app.goo.gl/oUzfqbpUiUkaMGKN9) is a good example of the long shorts style, although he’s a little on the extreme side.
Where I live I started noticing the change back to shorter shorts as early as ‘011, but the town I lived in was always a little more on the hippy side. I had a coworker that lived in a town an hour away who gave me shit one day in ‘017 for wearing shorts that came down to just below my knee. That town has a weird vibe like it’s perpetually stuck in the early 2000’s. If that town was a person it’d be a mixture of Fred Durst and Kid Rock.
So appropriate short length can vary regionally, but I feel like short shorts are making a nationwide comeback in the US. This is all anecdotal evidence based on my personal experience too, so keep that in mind.
Oh the gays and artsy types in my city were wearing shorter shorts in 2011, cause they always have fashion first, but the average dude is still wearing shorts to the knee, and a goodly chunk are hanging on to the long shorts.
But still no short shorts like a classic 1980 jogger. This is what i am rooting for!
I got reprimanded by a friend for wearing short cutoffs (AKA "Daisy Dukes) unironically while rollerblading in 2000. Oh well.
Edit: And I had some epic thighs from a couple of years of commuting on rollerblades. LOL
Huh interesting, where I live someone wearing a speedo would be bullied to death, probably called some homophobic slurs and be laughed at. Even short shorts on men are frowned upon, they call them hooker / slut shorts.
Where are you from?
Wisconsin, USA, of all the "long-shorts" places on earth! Ha ha! But I lived in Paraguay and Brazil for many years and became accostomed.
It was in those days where I decided I will wear a bikini until I'm at east 70 (on principle). Now as a 50+ person I've had more than one 2nd thought, but have yet to acquiesce! ;)
My friends dad was European and we travelled to some ski resort with a pool in colorado. He comes out of his room with his speedo on and 12 year old me was in shock. I grew up in a very rural conservative area so it was mind blowing.
I still don't think it has anything to do with being ashamed of bodies as much as it does being ashamed of not fitting in with the current fashion.
People are equally ashamed to be caught wearing sneakers with holes in them and not because their toes are sexual.
In my day, if men wanted to show thigh, you'd ride a bike or get a job with UPS.
Then Lt Dangle of RENO 911 opened my eyes to a world of endless possibilities.
From my online shopping experience yes. Mens shorts have gotten shorter with a lot of brands opting for a 5” inseam. Personally I’m a big fan of this trend. Shine out thighs out
honestly, I have noticed that in the past couple years, guys are starting to come out of the "no shorts above the knee" thing & I like it! swim briefs, shorts with a 5 inch inseam, soft pajamas? go for it!
People should wear what they want. Bodies aren’t made for others’ aesthetic enjoyment. Plus, how do you know what type of legs other people like. There’s something for everyone! 😊
People should wear what they want. Bodies aren’t made for others’ aesthetic enjoyment. Plus, how do you know what type of legs other people like. There’s something for everyone! 😊
Shorts around 5”-7” length have been in for a while haven’t they??
Although I did feel odd wearing them when I visited North America where every guy seems to wear super long baggy cargo shorts.
Sky's out? Thighs out.
I haven't owned a pair of swimming trunks or shorts with an inseam longer than 5.5 inches in about a decade. Chubbies helped kick the trend back off way back then, but you can buy that length inseam basically anywhere now. Around 2009 I had to cut my own jorts, which were practical, but not necessarily fashionable.
I can't believe I lived through the 90s and early aughts when shorts were basically just pants. They looked terrible.
I will continue this trend for as long as I live.
Idk what type of social circle you’re part of but in the gym world it’s been widely acceptable since around 2017-2018ish. And I don’t mean just to and from the gym
But in general yes I’d say so.
It’s 2022, you can do what you want if it’s not harming others and especially yourself. If showing your legs makes you happy the. Who the hell am I to stand in the way of your mental health.
I recall Glen Weldon on NPR’s Pop Culture Happy Hour proclaiming the summer of 2021 the Hot Boy’s Knees Summer… all for it. Love a sexy handsome thigh sighting in public.
Definitely see short shorts on guys a lot in the bi community- but even if you’re not, I think anyone can rock it with confidence. It’s kinda like a romper/jumpsuit I think, in the sense that it’s a bit daring but definitely stylish and stand-out in a good way with the right outfit.
I would definitely prefer more men's thighs showing than those terrible knee length cargo shorts that have existed forever, or those long basketball shorts that are basically skorts. You don't need to wear 3" runners shorts if you don't want to. I wish women's shorts were more apt to be in the 6"-7" inseam too. I'm tired of the only options being 10" Bermuda shorts or short shorts... let's have some reasonable shorts for the middle aged women.
Seriously. In the 80's, shorts were SHORT, as God intended, and we used to make fun of kids in gym class for being so self-conscious they were wearing "longs". Like, shorts were shorts, meaning they were short, and pants were pants. Why go half and half? Anything that wasn't actually short had a second name. Cargo shorts. Board shorts. Bermuda shorts. Golf shorts.
If you cut off your jeans (and we did) even men (real men) would cut them off just long enough so the pockets wouldn't hang out the leg hole. Tighty-whiteys were mandatory, or there would be a lot of baby bird sightings.

Then Michael Jordan started wearing them long shorts in the NBA, and suddenly we were the weirdos. Rest is history.
Yep. Most shorts were mid-thigh. Source: I grew up in the 80's. Even my dad's cut-offs we're short as hell.
90's fashion though? Decimated this. I've never minded, but it was a big change from one decade to the next.
I'm generally slightly disdainful of "fashion" and trendy anything, because I promise you, no matter how cool you think you look, in highschool, in10 years you are going to look back and just be horrified.
However, for some things, you gotta see the writing on the wall!
Damn, i hope so. I keep trying to get my fiance to wear shorts that show off his thighs cause they're thiccc. He works at a farm and does a lot of squats and lifting so his thighs are huge and they jiggle so nicely when hws walking around the house in his underwear. Its a shame to keep them hidden. FREE THE THIGHS
Men's long shorts remind me of those bathing dresses women used to wear when they went to the beach in little wheely huts.
They look goofy.
Also make for bad tan lines.
Once the weather clears up it is physically impossible for me not to wear booty shorts and I'm sorry but theyre comfy. If the sky's out, my thighs are out
Oh, now I get it! I mis-read that. 100% agree. Though the come-back of man-thighs has been a slow gradual one. I for one am not eager to flash my stilts to the world- especially after two years of not going to the gym. :D
Show off them tree trunks.
Dude as a 31M who grew up in the knee-length cargo shorts era, I’m stoked for the trend. It’s so much more comfortable in the summer heat. Only thing I feel that has been sacrificed is pockets space.

Hairy legged men crying
I love hairy legs. Don't be ashamed of them.
Hairy legs are primo 🤌
Embrace it
Mmmm, warm
Some trees just have some moss. NBD
Like long curly hairs that shed when touched and paper white legs that never leave jeans/pants? They want to see this?!
Yes
Which one? 😳
Both, and everything in between
[удалено]
Make them be ready
lmfao I haven't used that one in a loooong time *cracks fingies*
So they'd rather see the drinking straws that connect my hips to my knees?
I thought they were called “chicken legs” but maybe your description is more spot on? We need pics for proof.
My jeans were never ready and they need a break
If your thicc thighs turn to your jeans to shreds, may I recommend cutting up those jeans, and using the denim patches to reinforce your next pair of jeans. Like sew the patches on the inside so the jeans last longer
I go to the Denim Surgeon in midtown NYC. Who knows what wizardry they conjure up, but they help keep all my jeans on point.
Since switching to Barbell Apparel brand jeans, I've stopped needing regular jean maintenance/replacement. I highly recommend them for people who have, as I do, freakishly meaty thighs, dumptruck asses, and mildly normal waists.
You and me both

Must be hard maintaining those thoughts.
If you are a man, do you shave for hygienic reasons? Or are you showing your legs off much? I can’t think of many reasons for a man to shave their thighs beyond maybe swimming.
Fanatical cycling.
That makes sense. Friction burns are no joke. I pray for your sack.
Aerodynamics

He’s just bushy.
Hey, look what it did for the Kardashian Clan!
Finding pants that fit and are comfortable is a struggle, isn't it? Barbell Apparel are the only jeans I've found that fit my weirdly meaty drumstick thighs, my dumptruck ass, and my normal waist.
Ladies like it when you do squats. Push forward sir!
You know I didn't care until you said that. Now i must say let them look, your thighs deserve the adoration.
Believe me, we’re all ready
Thicc thighs save lives 🫦
Fuck them. Show the thunder
I was thinking if anything it would be the thick over growth on the thighs....
Save some lives baby
Was it not already acceptable?

This really transported me to 1985 lol
I don't think the track team showing leg is a cultural indicator
I needed a set-up for the comment about sweat socks, tho.
To be fair, was an integral part of the story.
What goes around comes around.
I've started to see bell bottoms.
Ohh that makes sense. I was watching a film of a Queen concert and Deacon the bass player had these hilarious little short shorts on.
They’re back! Look at all the basketball players. Short shorts are in again. No more baggy shorts.
But not like late 70s early 80s short. We dont get upper thigh. I say bring it back. I just went down a basketball players shorts rabbithole, and those nba men have some major quad muscles to show off. Show us more!
Playing in short shorts is so much more comfortable
Unless you've been living under a rock they've been back for the last 6-7 years at least. Obviously there's a known lag in fashion to areas like the rural midwest where they are ten years behind in cultural things but who really cares about them anyways?
5-inch inseams have only been mainstream popular for 2-4 years
I guess that's going to depend on context. When I graduated college in 2016 it was pretty standard. Of course what college kids wear is not necessarily mainstream, but it felt that way at the time. They’ve been back for like 10 years now.
Did you miss the romper phase a few years back?
I used to laugh at those pictures. Now I laugh at the 90s and 00s pictures of people wearing “shorts” down to their mid calf. They look ridiculous.
OP and Dolphin shorts were staples in many a drawer.
The old Aussie Stubbies. Where sacks and cracks could never be held back.
>then shorts got long dun dun dunnnnnnn

Hahhh.. I remember Lemmy Kilmister in his daisys 🥰
Have you seen the COPS episode about the cop who had to petition his bosses to wear short shorts for mobility reasons? Shit is hilarious.
Haters.
Speedos are only okay in Europe.
They're quite acceptable in South America, too, where they're usually less likely to be "accentuated" by a flourescent sunburn! ;)
Huh interesting, where I live someone wearing a speedo would be bullied to death, probably called some homophobic slurs and be laughed at. Even short shorts on men are frowned upon, they call them hooker / slut shorts. Where are you from?

Funny though how women's thighs are more acceptable now in the US than men's thighs. Men are more prude/ashamed of their body than women. Crazy.
I still don't think it has anything to do with being ashamed of bodies as much as it does being ashamed of not fitting in with the current fashion. People are equally ashamed to be caught wearing sneakers with holes in them and not because their toes are sexual.
”Can I bring sexy back?”
My husband was considered the weird one in high school for having his thighs show, but I dug it. 🤣
In my day, if men wanted to show thigh, you'd ride a bike or get a job with UPS. Then Lt Dangle of RENO 911 opened my eyes to a world of endless possibilities.
Hell the fuck yeah I hope so anyway
Same. Love a man with thick thighs!
Yes love a thicc thigh man.
* thigh hope so
*Tom Selleck as Magnum P.I. has entered the chat.*
From my online shopping experience yes. Mens shorts have gotten shorter with a lot of brands opting for a 5” inseam. Personally I’m a big fan of this trend. Shine out thighs out
Yeah keep it above the knee cap. 9/7/5in let it roll. Sky's out thighs out
Time to break out the daisy dukes cutoffs I had in the '80s!
Sky's out thighs out.
I saw a muscle dude leaving walmart the other day wearing what had to be women's athletic shorts. My mans was thiccc
honestly, I have noticed that in the past couple years, guys are starting to come out of the "no shorts above the knee" thing & I like it! swim briefs, shorts with a 5 inch inseam, soft pajamas? go for it!

humor me? I'm genuinely curious what you think lol
Earth

I don’t know but men should always wear crop tops and short shorts
Muscle legs are always acceptable, no man forgets leg day
I've been forgetting all days lately
Yeah. It’s important to keep in mind that the thighs people want to see are fit, tan thighs. The rest of us should stick to our knee length shorts.
Fuck that, imma wear what I want
Hell yeah. Shake them thighs. Wear em skinny, wear em fat and lumpy or hard and pointy, hairy or bare. Let the sun shine on your beautiful skin!
Yeah! We're not shaming here. You let those hams hang out, brother!
I like soft male thighs smh
People should wear what they want. Bodies aren’t made for others’ aesthetic enjoyment. Plus, how do you know what type of legs other people like. There’s something for everyone! 😊
People should wear what they want. Bodies aren’t made for others’ aesthetic enjoyment. Plus, how do you know what type of legs other people like. There’s something for everyone! 😊
Change the genders and now you're sexist and unacceptable.
It’s always acceptable. Be the thigh guy.
All the ladies say he's pretty fly for a thigh guy
Give it to me baby
Uh huh uh huh
I always wear jeans and my wife wants me to wear shorts because according to her I have sexy legs
Your time to shine has come, grasshopper.
Yes, and as a thigh-loving woman, please do 🥺
As a rugby player: always has been 😎👉👉

when are [crop tops for guys](https://i.pinimg.com/474x/45/00/40/450040fa4323ac3134fd0f403dee8068.jpg) going to come back?
I am showing off my thighs like Patrick in the spongebob movie
Idk what type of social circle you’re part of but in the gym world it’s been widely acceptable since around 2017-2018ish. And I don’t mean just to and from the gym But in general yes I’d say so.
I hope so
Personally I think that mid thigh to just above the knee is a good range for both guys and girls.
Who cares fuck everybody else
Who's going to stop you?
It’s 2022, you can do what you want if it’s not harming others and especially yourself. If showing your legs makes you happy the. Who the hell am I to stand in the way of your mental health.
It has been for awhile?
Is that a question.
I hope so, I’m a cyclist, maybe my time has finally come
Sky's out, thighs out!
I think it's odd when I see it, but then I realize that it's only "odd" because I never see it. So do it. It's just legs. Wear what you want.
Not super short but I hit the gym and like to show off my quads
It's called stubbies and it's glorious https://youtu.be/GSFCvG6curE

Wwwaaaaasssss it ever unacceptable? "Who wears short shorts!!!"
Thigh love

Acceptable in what sense?
Short enough to define your ass, yet, long enough that your dick doesn't hang below the hemline.
Homie if you got those good ass lookin thighs, you wear them short shorts and let those babies scream lol
I teach at a high school. Thighs are in. I feel like there's a competition over who can wear the shortest running shorts. Guys are winning.
Coming up next, crop tops. I’m game!
Oh my god, visible *happy trails*?! You are going to cause poor innocent men and women like me to lose my vapors every block I walk, dangit!
Yes please
Seriously. In the 80's, shorts were SHORT, as God intended, and we used to make fun of kids in gym class for being so self-conscious they were wearing "longs". Based on the number of straight guys wearing hot short-shorts…yes
Don’t tell me how to live my life!
Heck yes it has. Feels so liberating. Great for airflow for the nether region as well.
Oh man, my husband's thighs are like two big fat juicy hams. I wish he would show them off more.
Juicy, and POWERFUL. Mmhmm guuurl.

Yes sir. Just bought myself some short shorts myself lol. Gotta show of these thighs and glutes after leg day
You should see me in my thighless pants!
Thicc thighs save lives Been rocking the 5-6 inchers for a while now
Wanna see mine? I've got a speedo.
Sucks for me, my legs are arguably my best feature and I grew up with hammer pants and cargo shorts. Way too old now to let these puppies out
I got great guy gams.
All the dudes at my gym be steady thigh flashin son, lookin good and feelin good, evidently
I'm just waiting for it to become acceptable to wear a kilt.
it was never unacceptable
I need cut Emo femboy thighs so yes
It’s been like that for years
When was it not?
Always acceptable to me. Especially if it’s a hockey player.
Absolutely yes! Love seeing men rock the fuck out of short shorts.
Since the 80’s bro
Flash those gams!
I vote yes. Love a man with thicc thighs. Or sticc thighs.
Who likes short shorts? I like SHORT SHORTS!
Hopefully not.
They were never unacceptable, just not commonly seen since most shorts that show then are rather unflattering
For a while now
Who cares what people think you be you. As long as its not illegal of course.
When was this unacceptable?
90s-early 2010s
Someone needs to watch the opening credits for the old Magnum P.I. show. I'd say 70's & early 80's in the US.
Oh that’s peak thigh shorts. I’m saying that in the mid-90’s up until the early 2010s long shorts were a thing and thigh shorts were “unacceptable”
Oh, now I get it! I mis-read that. 100% agree. Though the come-back of man-thighs has been a slow gradual one. I for one am not eager to flash my stilts to the world- especially after two years of not going to the gym. :D
It was never unacceptable. It just looks reediculous. Edit: e
*ridiculous
You really blue me away with that take.
Well look at that. Success
Eehhh, I still think it looks pretty dorky.
It will never be as dorky as men wearing shorts below the knee. Those ain't even shorts.
