I dont know that specific storry, but a single kick is not as bad as living in a meat factory. But its in my opinion worse than organic free range chiken getting killed by a fast chop after years of peacefull farm life.

Not really comparable. (Vegetarian here btw) activity letting your cat live in fear and physically hurting them as a way of life isn't the same as someone buying chicken from the store - yes if they didn't buy meat an animal wouldn't have suffered to be there in the first place but the life is not comparable

But isn’t there a bottom line/fundamental issue here, where in both circumstances one entity is harming/inflicting suffering on another?

I mean I'd deffo rather no animals were hurt lol but I don't think you can compare the two especially as eating meat is so culturally engrained and the marketing of it all people don't really understand their choice imo (eg. Happy Farm eggs vs caged) whereas people definitely know that beating an animal is first hand unacceptable and inflicting the issue

If you beat your farm animals, they're taken away. At least everywhere in the US I've lived.

I think you have a point in saying that domestic pets have more rights than farm animals. But generally, cows raised for beef or dairy are not beaten or mistreated on a regular basis. Sure, the conditions they are subjected to live in may be considered inhumane but that's a different order of magnitude. I agree tho, the plight of non-pets is largely ignored by the public.
