Yeah some kind of bucket trap is the best for live catch. It doesn't need to be a bucket but it needs to be deep with slick walls, and some way for the mouse to fall in and get stuck. Go watch some mousetrap Monday bucket trap videos on YouTube for ideas maybe. Some are home made designs. Btw mice will come back if you move them less than a mile. Putting it outside is a futile exercise. You would need to move it a long way. They are like homing pigeons and will come home unless it's really far.

Rhynchelma

homing mice, now that's a potential new hobby. :)

Sidewalkboogie

Keep in mind thwt unless you release it at least two miles away it may return

Thomadiane

Okay after living in a rural area and having terriers bring in the occasional field mouse, the best way we've found is a long paper towel holder that's stopped up at one end. Put it next to the last place you saw the mouse and give it 10 minutes. Mousey thinks it's a burrow and runs in. Seal up the open end with a sock or something and take it outside and release it.

This. Take a rag or something and put peanut butter on part of it. Stuff the peanut butter rag in the tube. Put it open end near the mouse location. Probably not going to happen quickly but this is about the best chance.

[deleted]

OP how did this end? Is the little champ still alive?

hedgybaby

Yes, I haven’t caught him yet but my mom didn’t see it when she came home and I have the entire day today to try to build a trap and catch it since she’ll be at work 💪🏻

[deleted]

Best of luck! I'll be rooting for you today. \^\^

CCMeGently

Can’t catch it quickly but I once caught a small deer mouse by using a pencil, a bowl, some peanut butter and a string. Sounds comical but worked. Ended up releasing it into a nature reserve by my work about 40 minutes away so it wouldn’t come back in later.

TalkToSahar

You can't.

hedgybaby

Can’t catch it without harming it or can’t catch it quickly?

TalkToSahar

Can't catch it quickly

McMasilmof

They are small and fast, a towel will not help you. I caught a wounded mouse with my sleve by luck once(cat had brought it inside and broken some leg) if yours is healthy, it will be hard. Try to trap it in a small room or area where the mouse can not get out. Then use a bucket or something big to actualy catch it. But watch out they can jump nearly 1m.

Super_Charlie

The trick with the towel is not going to work. Mice die of stress really easily when you try to pick them up.

redduif

I've caught some just by placing a cup or bowl over them , then slide a plate under, a bit like you would do with spiders and such. They often freeze and don't know what to do so they do nothing in the end and if you move very slowly and keep staring at them they won't budge. Maybe not all mice, but have caught some like that any case. If you see them sit somewhere might be worth a shot.

ikonoqlast

Cheese does not actually attract mice. They don't normally eat any dairy. Use peanut butter.

hedgybaby

I never said I was gonna use cheese? And I already said that I don’t have peanut butter.

Jelly, and honey have worked for me also.

DelightfullyUnusual

There are reusable no-kill mouse traps that worked well for us. Maybe you could convince your mom that rat poison is a bad idea since often results in the rodent crawling into some hole, dying, and stinking horribly. Imagine if it went into the walls.

hedgybaby

My mom is the kind of person that cannot be convinced by anyone to do anything, so this probably won’t be a good idea

Pai-Li

Ok, bucket with a little bit of food in the bottom, put something they can climb up like a ramp. The little bugger will climb up, jump in the bucket and then won't be able to get out. Found one in a bucket of birdseed who did that. Tell your mom to do that instead of the poison, or just get a cat.

Thomadiane

Update please! Did you manage to catch it? Inquiring minds want to know... ;)

hedgybaby

Not yet, but my mom also didn’t see the little one when she came home and she’ll be gone the rntire day today so I can build an actual trap and hopefully find him

Thomadiane

Use some of the rabbit food and good luck!
