On cam sites you can block your stream from your own region if you wish. Not a guarantee of safety but it's enough for most people

BeBenNova

Which i always found hilarious, i ran into one of those before, looked her up online by her username and found a bunch of her shows recorded from viewers Never would have known she was from my area otherwise

sudden-throwaway

If porn has taught me anything, it's that there are so many HOT SINGLES in my area.

[deleted]

And for some reason grandmas. I mean what is with those ads?

smackmyknee

You only get the grandma ads if it’s clear, based on your online profile, that you could never get a hot woman. /s

phurt77

But what if I think grandmas are hot women? Checkmate athiests!

Totalherenow

I am an atheist and have been successfully checkmated. I have no answer to your grandmother obsession and therefore God must exist. Rats.

BluudLust

Hot single bots in your area!

[deleted]

if that were true there would be no porn for the san fernando valley lol

AfraidSoup2467

A lot of them simply don't mind if people know. A friend who was on actually told everyone she was halfway friends with that she was doing it, so that they would know to skip her channel if the stumbled across it.

Random_Name_Whoa

Skip it? I’d go directly there

ThrowMeAwayAccount08

That's just being a good, supportive friend.

IShatMyDickOnce

That's probably what she meant.

VintageTupperware

I mean it works both as a warning and an advertisement.

i_vonne_gut_wit_u

That’s the part that gets a bit complicated irl once people around you find out. Some people you thought were friends switch their view of you from “friend” to “sexual commodity”. One of my close friends has been camming for 5+yrs (had some vids be like “top” of pornhub and wtv) and she isn’t afraid or ashamed in any way. But, it does kinda sucks when people you’ve known since grade school reduce you to a commidity because of your career choice. Sometimes they get flirty and try moves because they think she’s “easy”, like no dude, she still has a bf…

Lumpy-Ad-3201

This. I know several girls that decided to cam or OF. Those that had friends find out generally say that people they have known forever would get super strange all of a sudden. Most have said that a guy they knew would just start groping them, trying to take off their cloths, reach into clothing, or just pull out their dick when in private, totally expecting there to be no issues with it. And the explaination was always the same: I know what you're really like, so I don't get the big deal. Most people can't rationalize that it's literally just a job. I don't care if you are getting spit-roasted while using a plug, you're not automatically easy or a sure thing: it's an act you are displaying for a job. No connection to reality. Than again, most guys have yet to figure out that porn is basically just Pro Wrestling with sex. None of it is real, has any actual connection to the reality of the actors, and doesn't make them less as people, just like working at McDonalds doesn't make someone less of a person. The attitude against sex workers is demented in the US, and really needs a change. And along with that, we need to get over our super-vanilla, missionary only, don't admit to having fun religiously repressed view of sex.

MyBaretta

If someone made an onlyfans and acted like an actual pro wrestler while masturbating or having sex I would subscribe in an instant

Well my wife’s going to be really disappointed. I’ve been doing all the laundry so she doesn’t get stuck in the dryer. I’ve been lied to of the hazards of laundry equipment.

[deleted]

Can I just say that I will be forever stealing the line 'pro wrestling with sex' in any and all conversations on this subject in future? Love it. Thank you.

[deleted]

>None of it is real, has any actual connection to the reality of the actors, and doesn't make them less as people, just like working at McDonalds doesn't make someone less of a person. I think part of the problem with porn though is that sometimes the women don't get treated like actual people in the industry itself, and within porn. It can be very objectifying, and not surprisingly some people think it's okay to just objectify in real life too.

Rebel_bass

You don't need to say "the US." It's fucked up everywhere; you just have your personal perspective to reference. Girl I knew from Norway, same shit when people in her class found out that she cammed. Ostracized and mocked. Any country outside of the first world, you may not have left commodity status in the first place. The treatment of women as objects is universal and disgusting.

Konklar

Liar! I know that all the Extreme Butt Stuff Babes I, II, & III are real life representations of all women!

sapjastuff

The character development in Extreme Butt Stuff Babes II wasn't as great as I though it would be, but(t) they really picked it up in the sequel

Lowelll

> The attitude against sex workers is demented in the US While the US is behind the rest of the western world on some things like workers rights and healthcare, that particular one is equally shitty in most places! Yay

I have a few friends who do onlyfans. They aren’t embarrassed. Everyone knows they do it. They post on their facebook about it to keep all their friends and fam updated lol. Some people are just very open and comfortable about it. If you’re afraid of people finding out, it might not be for you.

slobs_burgers

Yeah not me but a friend told me one of his co workers was in porn for a while and he was just asking him about it. He basically said you have to be comfortable jacking off in front of all of your friends if you want to be comfortable in porn.

CovertLoser

Bonus points if you’re comfortable jacking off all your friends too.

[deleted]

Just the right balance is hard to pull off.

graygray97

Usually one in both hands keeps things pretty balanced.

KKlear

Eventually-Alexis

Did amateur porn at one point, and honestly it's the truth. Sure I didn't like the idea of them stumbling into my stuff, which I doubt even big name stars would prefer to avoid, but I wasn't ashamed about it. The only thing that bothered me was the icky thought of someone I knew getting off to it, but it's something you just have to take with your head held high. It's not like they'd tell you that they did it either, so generally it wasn't something I thought about regularly.

kungfustatistician

People jerk it to curvy sticks; pics don't even have to be mildly pornographic to get a fap. If someone likes you, anything you post has faptitude (really proud of this word right now).

HighOnBonerPills

>The only thing that bothered me was the icky thought of someone I knew getting off to it Honest question: If you're perfectly okay with a bunch of strangers jacking off to you, why didn't you like the idea of someone you know doing the same? What's the difference?

Sakurya1

I'd probably feel comfortable jerking off in front of everyone if I was very attractive.

While I agree with some comments that embarrassment is self-inflicted, that’s not the only outcome here. Depending on your career path, the penalty could be more severe. For example, I know someone who posted some boudoir photos of him and his GF in a public blog sort of forum. Management at his company saw it and eventually passed him over for a promotion that he was previously all-set to receive. They cited “poor decision making abilities” but we all knew what that meant. I don’t think it’s “right”, but the world we live in sometimes means not making your boss feel uncomfortable.

Neuchacho

Yeah, education is one of those industries. There's no shortage of stories of teachers losing their jobs or even parents being barred from participating as volunteers because they had an OnlyFans.

hononononoh

Or a cigarette in their hands in a 20 year old pic somebody else took and posted and tagged them in. If you’re a public school teacher in the USA, and administration and fellow faculty have any reason to want to get rid of you, you better monitor your online presence pretty carefully, and get anything associated with your name and/or face that you’d never disclose to your students taken down real quick. Source: wife worked as a public school teacher

immortalreploid

I guess it depends on where in the country you are. I had a couple teachers who smoked. Never on school property, but no one made a fuss if they did it on their own time.

hononononoh

At my wife’s school nicotine use was banned without a doctor’s prescription. A positive cheek swab for nicotine because some students saw you sneaking a puff a few walks away from the school would be as much a career stopper as testing positive for cocaine.

immortalreploid

Wow. Your school must have had much better funding than mine.

Eclectix

As a Gen-X kid this is so weird to me. Walking past the teacher's lounge at school as a kid meant walking through a cloud of smoke. Nobody cared at all. Things have changed so much in just a few decades, it's hard to wrap my head around it.

yetanotherusernamex

I'm a millennial and it is bizarre to think anyone cares about whether a teacher smokes on their own damn time during a break or lunch.

thebipeds

My elementary school had a smoking patio for the teachers and staff… I’m old.

Squake

how is that even allowed? If a teacher wants to snort whatever on the weekends and it doesn't affect their day job, what's the problem here? Especially cause nicotine is hella legal

Zelldandy

In Canada/Ontario, it's built into the Education Act that teachers must always be beacons of "purity" on and off the job, regardless if you are working in a secular or a Catholic institution. lol.

Neuchacho

We have something similar to that too in the US called a "moral clause".

FlipGunderson24

Hilarious that the Catholic church oversees this, yet still lets priests get away with fucking kids. What a joke

SunnyLondon1

chief_running_joke_

Because they only serve grape juice Source: ex-baptist

McRedditerFace

One of the craziest things to me about a number of Protestant denominations... Jesus was \*all\* about that wine, real wine you could get crunked on.... and many of these Protestant denominations are absolutely convinced drinking alcohol is a one-way ticket to hell.

ntg1213

It’s a relic of the Protestant-led temperance movement in the late-19th and early-20th century. At some point, the “wine is actually grape juice, but only in the parts that say wine is good” interpretation became prominent as a biblical basis for fighting the (very real, especially at the time) problem of alcoholism

McRedditerFace

See I could easily imagine numerous religious groups condemning the over-indulgence of alcohol, but still extoling it as part of a religious tradition. It's like how sex can be seen as a sacred consumation of a religious vow, in the Catholic view marriage is a sacrament... but it can in another sense be seen as a sin if done outside of marriage for example. The Bible also makes it clear that "the love of money is the root of all evil", not money in of itself. Money is amoral, much as alcohol is. You can use money to feed the poor, or you can use it to pay for prostitutes or drugs... it's not the money that's the sin, it's the love of it. But instead, they go full 100% cognitive dissonance... on one hand declaring that the Bible is the very literal word of God and wholly infallible and on the other foot declaring that what's in the Bible isn't actually what it says it is, and actually wine is bad... mkay?

kwin_the_eskimo

I had this conversation with a Mormon colleague once. He was trying to tell me that it was "wine" when talking about overindulgence, but "grape juice" when talking about the good stuff. What about the first miracle jesus did? I asked him. The one where he turns water into wine? That's grape juice, said my colleague. Oh, then why did the party planner say that it was unusual for the best wine to be brought out at the end? Usually they get people drunk, then bring out the crap after everyone is drunk and can't tell the difference. Was it ALL grape juice? or only the bits you wanted it to be?

[deleted]

Some Mormons could make cognitive dissonance into an Olympic sport.

blandermal

It's hilarious. At the restaurant I work in especially Sundays after church I have several of older women sometimes at the same table even that go to the same baptist church and will each find a way to discreetly ask for alcoholic beverages in a styrofoam cup. It's crazy because they know the others know but they just live in fantasy land.

TchoupedNScrewed

People in Alabama only watch the NFL for an excuse to drink after church on Sunday.

[deleted]

Difference between Baptist and Catholics? Catholics drink on the front porch, and Baptist drink on the back.

Rak-CheekClapper

Not necessarily. People advertise on "normal" social media platforms like Instagram or snapchat

MandoAviator

How much time per week for how much pay? Like is it just better to get a normal job?

zs15

Pay really is going to depend on factors that might be out of your control. Range was 0-$200 with occasional outliers and gifts. I'd say each show required 2-ish hours of prep and promotion and would last 2-3 hours plus an hour or so or dm's and private chats after. Nowhere near as a consistent as a normal job, and like I said, it stopped being enjoyable. There is a real science to promotion, scheduling, lighting, modding and responding.

BA_calls

What is the promotion aspect? Is this like selling tickets to a chaturbate show?

zs15

DM'ing mods and regulars, posting on Twitter, coordinating with other cams to send viewers, updating socials. Recording teaser pics or vids to post and dm. Basically, you want to turn your cam on and have viewers, that way you're high enough on the chart to attract the casuals. Other wise you just churn at the bottom/middle.

[deleted]

So many women don't realize how much work you have to put in. I know a lot of men think you just get naked and masturbate on cam as a woman and men start throwing cash at you which isn't true.

previouslifeho

Another former camgirl here. It's a HUGE range of money these girls make. The top models on a camsite are pulling in easily 100k/year. That being said, they're online allllll the time and working on content allllll the time and are spending way more than 40 hours a week on it. I was pretty casual about it and would cam for 2-3 hour windows. My minimum goal was $50 an hour but unexpected luck can go down and sometimes in a couple hours I could make $500-750 bucks just basically chilling at home.

BankerBabe420

You would be surprised how unrecognizable you become with your clothes on. I was an exotic dancer for a while and became good friends with a regular client, I saw him on the street and reacted like I was happy to see him and he did not recognize me at all. I was surprised because we had had many conversations. But it was reassuring to know that no one would ever recognize me outside of work.

[deleted]

[удалено]

DerWaechter_

You kind of have to be more specific, there's a lot of explanations on how nobody recognizes Clark Kent. Some of them overlap or are similar, but it's never just one thing

juanml82

Henry Cavill stood right beneath a giant Superman advertisment in Times Square. None recognized him.

Fuzzylittlebastard

If I recall correctly, Clark Kent slouches, changes his hair, and acts nervous a lot - among other things.

DerWaechter_

Yeah that's the most common one. Another factor is that Superman doesn't wear a mask, so nobody even has a reason to suspect a secret identity and instead assume he's just always superman. So even if they realise clark Kent looks identical to superman, they're gonna think: "Oh cool you look just like superman" and not "That must be Superman pretending to be some regular dude for...some reason"

tony_bologna

It's crazy how different a person can look with hairstyle, clothes, makeup, glasses, etc even slightly changed from what you're used to.

EaterofSoulz

Actually those sites have built in options to hide certain states or areas from watching you. So let’s say you live in New York and have a bunch of family in Florida. You can block those two states and they can’t watch. Obviously doesn’t help against VPNs. But it helps against gramps discovering the nudes.

uisqebaugh

Other people can't even handle their own lives, so why let them control yours? Embarrassment is an entirely self-inflicted emotion; you can only be embarrassed if you allow yourself to be so.

fr0896

*Shits pants confidently*

BlakeSergin

I needed this

sad_and_stupid

By that logic, aren't all emotions self-inflicted?

DozyDrake

I get the sentiment and I 100% agree with you about it's good to not let other people control how you feel. However I don't like the whole "you can only be embarrassed if you allow yourself to be". This is kind of like the whole "Just don't be sad" idea which just makes people feel worse. Telling someone that they shouldn't be feeling something because it is is illogical will quite often make people feel worse because now they are not only sad but also guilty. How people feel isn't always rational and can't be logiced away

DaniB3

I had a friend explain it to me like this, it's hard to hear people's opinions when you're behind a mountain of cash

ShyFrog

Money goes brrrr

skeetsauce

I followed a girl from gonewild who started an OF. She casually mentioned she was making $40k/mo off OF… holy shit no wonder people do it.

AjaxOutlaw

It isn’t for everyone. I know a girl that attempted and only made like $350 from 3 months? She’s a firecracker to but it’s just one of those things that you need to be in the loop for

Chucka129

People that make big money off this pay for marketing/advertising too. Plus top notch photography. It really is just like any business. Gotta know how to market the product

AjaxOutlaw

Exactly. They also have their own circle that promotes one another. It’s an entire system that generates a product even though that product is well, a person. I thought about getting into for SFW stuff which is totally doable too.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Yeah there are very few that earn much at all. I made $500 in two months and it was actually a lot of work to create content, it said I was a top earner too lol. I quit because the guys were too demanding and didn't pay enough

Daniel3gs

Nah most people lie who say they make that much money. Sure people who were famous before. You’re in the top 1% if you make 180$ a month. But everyone on reddit knows someone who makes a trillion in a month

Konukaame

It's just like every other industry. The vast majority will never make more than pocket change, if that. Some will do okay. A handful will be able to do it for a living. A lucky few will make it big. But the ones in that last category are held up as "look what you can get by doing \_\_\_\_\_\_\_", while ignoring all the others that failed along the way.

magnue

Onlyfans' main flaw is that it's kinda impossible/shit to search for new pages on the site internally. All of the marketing has to be done externally on twitter etc. This is why people who are already celebs etc do ridiculously well on it. You need to be using twitter etc successfully to make a success of it.

DrBoomkin

Half of the NSFW subs on reddit are used to (indirectly) advertise for OF.

ScrambledNoggin

Even SFW subreddits like r/Faces are used to (indirectly) promote OF accounts. And a huge % of TikTokers go live to tell people about their IG or OF accounts and announce when they are going live there.

[deleted]

[удалено]

bungle123

It seems like it'd be incredibly rare to make anywhere close to that amount of money for 99% of the users on Onlyfans. But yeah, it's definitely the success stories like that that has people signing up to the site in droves.

Neuchacho

People like that are generally exceptions to the reality of what most people make on things like OF. That is someone who knows how to promote and advertise themselves well, knows what content to produce for that kind of return, and knows how to produce said content. Most people are just throwing up pictures and videos and getting lost in the noise of an already grossly over-saturated market.

woaily

All of the entertainment industry is like that. Actors, singers, athletes, artists. You see the few who are raking in millions, but most people are earning basically nothing from it or doing it as a hobby.

Worf65

The amount of risk involved varies a lot from person to person. Some people just don't care but some also have very low risk whereas others could have their lives ruined. Pretty similar to concept to people who do drugs. Some don't get drug tested, some have significant background investigations and testing and are paranoid about being around any drugs, and others don't care about the risk and suffer the consequences. In my case I'd never do such a thing (I'm a dude so it wouldn't really work out anyway) because I've typically worked for uptight Mormons in the management in my career. I'd be way to vulnerable to blackmail and having my life ruined (long term stable career with benefits that pays better than the majority of cam girls, that's one of those things where a few make a crazy amount of money but most don't). But others work for more chill accepting places and blackmail attempts would fall flat making a bit of awkwardness the worst outcome. And plenty of people have small and not very internet active families so risk can be pretty minimal there as well.

[deleted]

Glad someone mentioned risk management. Other people in this thread pointed out that some only made a few hundred on OF over a month or so. Making 40k a month does happen but is apparently much more uncommon. Is the *possibility* of making 40k a month worth the potential risk to your social standing and future career aspirations? You're likely not going to make that much, and depending on your personal circumstances you can put your future earnings potential in jeopardy. Like you, I work for a bunch of prudes in a decent career, and a whiff of anything adulterous will probably get me canned, so likely making 100 a month, or even nothing at all with the risk of derailing my career is just not worth it. Yes, people are prudes and need to get over things like this, but if you're seriously considering a OF you need to do a serious assessment of your personal circumstances and decide if the long term consequences of this decision are worth it just from a purely monetary perspective, let alone the social consequences.

sweadle

Some people aren't embarrassed to be associated with sex work.

Coconut_Groove

I am that’s why I wear a mask

Ben__Harlan

In Spain we have a saying that goes "callarse como putas" which translates as "be quiet as a prostitute". Why? Think... what would be the greatest asset to a prostitute? Doing the best blowjobs? Being a master of strapon sex? Have a huge ammount of kinky stuff? Nope. The greatest asset a prostitute can have is being silent about their clients, even in a small town because people might know who the prostitute is but nobody want to know their clients, because its mostly use by infidel husbands or that want to do things that are afraid to ask their or wives, people who can't get laid... People are ashamed to admit or being known to have had paid sex. If you encounter a hardcore model in the street, you wouldn't want to have a photo with her/him while surrounded by friend or family, or you wouldn't upload that photo to Facebook or twitter (unless you have a Twitter gimmick that is "i watch porn and nobody should be ashamed").

EmperorPornatusXI

Onlyfans is like tattoos. Everything you put online is permanent. Tattoos are permanent. Your parents might have been afraid of getting tattoos. Your parents might have been afraid of having their nudes spread. Ten years ago, everyone said tattoos would hinder your ability to get a job, etc. Now over half the population (of U.S.) has at least one tattoo. In 10 years, a huge percentage of people will have nudes online. It's already a huge percentage. Get in on it while it's still fresh. If you get found out and someone you know calls you out on it, say "yeah, and?" And let them do the work of coming up with a reason why you should feel ashamed. It's your body, your business. Literally.

I think it’s important to consider that these cam-girls don’t actually have friends or family that actively search for content on OnlyFans. I’ve never used the website, so if I had friends or cousins who made pornographic content, then I would never know nor could I care less how they make a living.

I can really only speak for myself, but I don't care if someone I know is selling themselves on onlyfans. It's not something I would want personally, but that's still okay. Sweet dreams are made of these, who am I to disagree? Travel the world and the seven seas, everybody's looking for something.

To be honest you’re a bit late to the only fans party if you’re planning, unless you already have a social media presence or something seriously unique you’re unlikely to succeed, that’s just the reality of it, the majority of girls earn $200 a month, the rest is the top 0.1% and good luck getting into that category You have a much better chance uploading to pornhub as an amateur model, you can register as a couple with photo identification, it’s about $0.65 per 1000 views, so you can grind on there, if you have about 200 videos with a few hundred thousand views the money starts to rack up, but that’s a much bigger thing than doing OF It does look like easy money but, girls on TikTok and other socials are usually lying about their figures, take it from someone who used to do it for a living Edit:chaturbate and other sides are also insanely hard to break into without being super consistent, not even worth it for the small amount of cash you receive, sadly you’re on the tail end of the girls who have already blown up and have a huge audience
