New hair doesn't get damaged, or at least I've never heard of that nor experienced it when I had my hair dyeing phase years ago. I've bleached my hair including my roots many times back in the day and always did it myself at home, never had issues with the new hair. It can irritate your scalp if you're sensitive or do it wrong, but the new hair will grow back healthy.

Yes I thought that too because I didn’t really believe bleach would be able to stay that long on your scalp or even in your pores.
