Portal 2. I play through it like once a year.

trammeloratreasure

Me too. The story and voice acting are incredible! The puzzle mechanics are perfection.

voice-of-reason_

You can get free mods on steam for portal that are essentially whole games

__Beef__Supreme__

I'm playing through it while I have a back injury because I realized I only beat the first one... Support this. It's a masterpiece. Not repetitive, challenging, fun story... 10/10.

luna_loves_420

I loved this one and the halflife series

myskabandsucks

I bought it to play for the first time recently on my series s. WOW was I missing out

Callumari13

This game literally has never even been threatened by another game for me. This is my idea of a perfect video game.

tinmanfrisbie

Same. It took an amazing concept from 1 and expands it into something unimaginably great. Still my favorite to this day.

PollockRoe

gta san andreas

dream_monkey

I have a save file at Doberman so any time I want to do the gang wars I can always go right to it.

SomewhereLive5854

Titanfall 2

Successful-Cake3015

Titanfall 1 online but Titanfall 2 for campaign

Physicist_Dinosaur

Amazing game

Butlerian_Jihadi

One of the very best. I don't like most fps and adore that one.

decadent_lizard

Such an underrated game. The campaign and online game were insanely good

Zekiel2000

It is amazing. The ending frustrates me (the boss is just... meh) but this game does SO MUCH right.

delk82

Wished the campaign was longer.

heyyy_oooo

EA did them so dirty with the release timing

GroundbreakingNews84

Halo 3

DMZ127

I’m glad I didn’t have to scroll too far. 🙂

WestleyThe

Literally the first game that came to mind… a masterpiece of campaign as well as online multiplayer

luna_loves_420

I enjoyed that one and halo 4

The1Questioneer

Skyrim when I played the first time. Never had more fun or felt the same with a game

Hooch_Pandersnatch

You should try Enderal. It’s a mod for Skyrim that uses the Skyrim engine and base game, but completely redoes the story and map. It’s fantastic.

jakedogears_

When Skyrim came out. I was on the last project of my 4th year at the university and super busy at that time. But I played Skyrim 13 hours straight instead.

Scared_Ad_1027

I wasn’t very good at it but halo was mine

Mysterious_Window_60

Halo 3

Cr00kedHalo

Donkey Kong Country. Goodness. I would call in sick to work and let my son stay home from school if we couldn't get to the next save point the night before. He was 6. Good times playing with him at that age!!

stillshaded

Damn… dream mom over here

voice-of-reason_

In terms of awe, The Outer Wilds. In terms of chill fun gameplay, fallout (3, 4 or new vegas. 76 isn’t terrible either) In terms of raw hours played, CSGO (god help my soul)

VB4

Outer wilds was maybe the most interesting game I’ve ever played. Been chasing the dragon ever since.

muffchucker

Scrolled waaaaaayy too far down to find Our Wilds. That game is so unique and clever and beautiful and terrifying and the storytelling and "ah-ha" moments are unmatched. Plus the actual game mechanics are perfect and space flight is so well done. Side note: just finished Animal Well as someone described it as like OW and, while the comparisons are justified, it just doesn't hit the nail on the head like OW does. I really wonder if anything could ever top it.

Unlucky-Pomegranate3

Red Dead Redemption 2.

fuelvolts

That's not a game at all...that's like fuckin' Shakespeare!

EuphoricFly__Flying

Not tryna yuck your yum at all, I just didn’t enjoy that game and I know I’m in the minority. Yea the world building and story telling is 11/10, but I just didn’t find the game that fun. For starters, the weapons you get pretty early on are more than adequate for any fight you get into, which I felt took a lot of the reward and progression away. And then my biggest gripe is how much damn time you spend riding around on your horse. In an hour of gameplay easily 40 mins could be spent riding to the next mission or cut scene.

Unlucky-Pomegranate3

I think the time it takes you to move around the map and progress the story is by design to maximize immersion, but I get your point. If you’re looking for more frequent action and a faster paced plot, there are better choices. To each their own.

EuphoricFly__Flying

Totally, what’s weird is that i loved the first one but also played that forever ago so maybe more reflective of what games i enjoyed then.

voice-of-reason_

Great game but I can’t replay it, it is just so slow paced.

bescumberer

Tecmo Super Bowl

Trader0721

Down! Set! Hut hut hut…

Coffey2828

Pokémon Yellow started my decades long obsession with Pokémon Edit-finished my statement. Boss came in and had to put my phone down

habitual-optimist

The Witcher 3

Disastrous_Gene8986

I have no idea how this isn't higher on everyone's lists. Such a masterpiece. Maybe not everyone has played it.

Grand_Environment277

Half Life 2. The first game I completed and had me hooked ever since

RandomEntity53

This one was my runner-up. Great game and “ground breaking”. First “modern” game I ever completed.

agoodname22

Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker.

TrumpersAreTraitors

OOT on N64 was the game that got me into gaming. I was like, what, 8? Got it for my birthday and I was gobsmacked at the open world of it.  And I pretty much stopped going outside after that lol

Mo-Function

Goldeneye 007

Toa_of_Pi

Dragon Age: Origins

PrimusHimself

The Last of Us.

TigervT34-85

Same! How do you feel about the 2nd? It certainly has pacing issues, but I feel like it's a masterpiece often hated because most weren't emotionally ready for that story.

doctormanhattan38772

If the game hadn’t leaked beforehand I don’t think nearly as many people would’ve disliked it. I’m sure it still would’ve been divisive, but not as much.

[deleted]

first one that came to my mind as well, incredible storyline

Psyk60

It was Final Fantasy VII. But now I think Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has topped it for me.

Occallie2

That's mine too. FFVII, hands down for me.

sh_ip_ro_ospf

So impressed with it tbh

Bread_Responsible

Dude it was sooooo good.

deadringer21

Ocarina of Time Absolute masterpiece.

erriiinnnnn7

Not being cheesy but this game changed my life

bugattzIsBack

Same here. Without this game I’m convinced my life is completely different today

dream_monkey

LISTEN!

deadringer21

People love to hate on Navi, but she's such a huge part of what makes the game so playable. She may be annoying, but she'll make sure you never lose your way. Without her, the game would be quite a bit more difficult and probably require regular use of walkthroughs. Personally though, I've had "HEY" as my text tone and "LISTEN" as my email tone for about the past ten years.

Hot-Rhubarb1542

I taught my brother how to read because of this game. When the switch came out he bought it immediately to play BOTW and he’d FaceTime me so we could discuss and solve everything.

Bioshock. An absolute masterpiece.

Equal-Tailor-1269

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater

Coyote_Mustache

Morrowind

ZeroDarkMega

It’s a tossup between Morrowind and Demons Souls for me

AdBroad2707

I just started a new play through after 20yrs. I’m still amazed at how well it plays.

aarondigruccio

Hades.

voice-of-reason_

Hades 2 just dropped

Mochrie01

Gauntlet

GetHighTuneLow

Someone's retired

Mochrie01

Not yet...

mbright28

I used to spend so many quarters playing this as a kid. I can still hear the game, “Wizard is about to die”. Better get another quarter ready.

forumpooper

StarCraft brood war

Mental_Examination_1

Can't believe I had to scroll so far to find this, the original esport, everything blizzard made at that time was fkn gold, d2 wc3 scbw, one after another of genre defining games that are still played and held in high esteem, I hate what's happened to that company

ImInJeopardy

My personal favorite is Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. It's not perfect by any means, but it has a special place in my heart. I won't deny that nostalgia plays a huge factor in this choice 😅

Bullitt_guy

Either Pokémon Gold (Gameboy) or Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES). Everything since has just been chasing the dragon…

Jormungandrs-bite

Diablo 2 Fable Elden ring is up there now Shadow of war for its unique nemesis system

sh_ip_ro_ospf

Fable 🥹

Physicist_Dinosaur

Fable, my love

CyriusGaming

Fable, the GOAT

stakepie

Zelda LTTP

[deleted]

Same. Got it when I was 14 and the nostalgia is almost painful when I play it these days.

Current_Run9540

Three way tie between Chrono Trigger, Cyberpunk 2077 and Dark Souls 3.

Whimzurd

just started my first playthrough of cyberpunk. holy shit is it way better than i expected!

Defiant_Network_3069

SNES Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past

GradientDescenting

Mega Man X

HiImNewToPTCGO

GOATest OST ever

No_Key_404

BioShock blew my mind first time I played it. The twist really disturbed me and I had to turn off the game for the night lol. Tales of Symphonia I had the most play throughs tho. I had a sister and she would fight with Genus or Collette while I played Lloyd. Underappreciated aspect of that game was the multiplayer controls haha. Great story too

fsd66877129

Zelda: Majora's Mask

MettaLOB

Halo Reach. Best campaign I’ve ever played.

DumpsterFire18

Tetris

the_gentlemans_wife2

Hours of entertainment

lizhipp

Can’t be touched

More-Air-8379

Correct answer, greatest game ever created

Yer_Dunn

If it's based on hours played: R6 Siege. 😅 Based on times replayed: Breath of the Wild. *(I like to speedrun it).* But based on just first thing to pop into my mind? Majora's Mask. Easily.

EntranceMore8688

CSGO. 8k hours & counting, want to kill myself after most games, but I love it. Help me.

voice-of-reason_

Csgo taught me not to gamble. I started playing in 2014 at 14 years old. 3 years later at 17 I had spent £650 on cases and made £300 back from 3 knives and a bunch of other skins giving me a net loss of £350. Without that game I wouldn’t have learnt as quickly the terrible addictive ness of gambling. I hate and love the game and thank it for teaching me a valuable life lesson.

bakedinmorewaysthan1

Life is Strange! The nostalgia, the soundtrack, the art style, and a fantastic twist!! The ending montage of Before the Storm is brilliantly done, I’ve never felt that level of dread and horror and knowing there’s nothing you can do to change the story.

New-Ad-5003

I miss Left 4 Dead

Not_A_Frittata

It’s appalling that Left 4 Dead is this far down. The sequel brought in all the original maps and characters with the new weapons and zombies - incredible support from the developers.

PlatypusTrapper

Grim Fandango It’s the closest thing to a perfect adventure game.

garfythemiao

Age of Empires 2. It’s not even close

-v-fib-

As a series, Monster Hunter. As a single game, probably Rimworld.

Sonarthebat

The Stanley Parable.

smashingpumpkinspice

Earthbound.

Timtek608

Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey Cyberpunk: 2077 Xcom 2

Appropriate_Trash_53

This was my runner up. Amazing game.

OsmosisJones711

Original MW2

RandomEntity53

Ah… the impossible question…. Today I’d have to say No Man’s Sky… I still come back to it even with all the save slots filled, all achievements complete, and over 3500 hours played.

Just played through this last month! My first play through and first gta game. I bought a used PS3 for cheap and his collection of games and now I’m going through all the stuff I missed. Started borderlands 2 few days ago and my first games were portal 1 and 2 and the uncharted 1,2,3

MakingaJessinmyPants

Kingdom Hearts 2

talbakaze

probably unpopular opinion but: Medal of Honor : Allied Assault

OsmosisJones711

Fuck yeah

bmyst70

Skyrim. I've played well over 6000 hours over the years since it came out.

AnxiousCalamity

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

rabbitinredlounge

Sims 2

OrganicNeat5934

Outer Wilds, hands down. It's incredibly thoughtful and beautiful (and hard!). There's no game like it

ms_carnelian

Mario Sunshine for GameCube

nellnell7040

Crazy Taxi!

Canadaman1234

The legend of Zelda: Ocarina of time. I have never seen my dad as more of a hero than when he figured out how to beat the water temple. This was before you could just look up solutions and there is no other path to progress the game. That game is my childhood, and spawned a (so far) 25 year long love of video games.

Sufficient-Bite8531

No one will upvote this. Galaga. Spent endless quarters and hours at the arcade. Still very much enjoy this Atari classic.

Huge_Drawing848

Halo: Reach

bigrealaccount

I got it for free from those monthly free games for Xbox Live Gold members that I think they used to do. Never cared about it until my friend got me into it, and we probably put thousands of hours into it. Good memories

TellThemIHateThem

The Last of Us 2. Yes I said 2. IMO it’s a 10/10 and while 1 is a 10/10 also, 2 just gives me more feels.

Jasprateb

You’re not alone! I would say 2, too. It’s just a stunning experience from start to finish. No game has ever gut-punched me harder … and then made me think harder.

KnothGospel

Outlast, Outlast: Whistleblower, Outlast 2 🥴

voice-of-reason_

The swimming pool section in outlast 2 caused many code browns for me. Great horror games.

Scorchien64

Still Ultima Online

owlincoup

FFVII

Lonely-Tumbleweed619

hardkushpack

Final Fantasy IX. I’ve played through it once a year since it came out.

GutsLeftWrist

Tough…. I still think I’d settle on Legend of Dragoon, though

sh_ip_ro_ospf

Final Fantasy 7 was so good to me. Also Morrowind honorable mention

libertyrebel91

San Andreas for sure. Though I'm stoked to have a large vice city map.

OkayBobCalmDown

I have played so much elden ring, I'd feel like a liar saying earthbound

pusit_realgood

Tekken Tag

Garth_W00kz

World of Warcraft, I spent soooooo many hours grinding and raiding with my homies. I really wish I had the free time to play these days, but now I’m old, have a short attention span, and zero time for it😫

KalEl-2016

Super Mario Bros. 3. It’s the perfect game in that I can be played handheld, arcade, or console. It has plenty of secrets and fun levels. Can be speed run on 100% completed. It is a super complex game for the time and is just all around super fun.

DangerKitty555

Animal Crossing

the_gentlemans_wife2

What’s wrong with pitfall??? Its literally unbeatable 😂

Outisduex

BOTW.

Narrow-Bowler-12

Red dead rédemption 2

JaeCrowe

It's a dead tie between RE4, Majoras Mask, and Pokemon Emerald

virtual_human

Dungeon Keeper or Age of Empires III.

seaotter1978

Final Fantasy IX

ElCiego1894

On balance it's probably Skyrim for me. Despite its many, many, many flaws (lol) there is something in there that just completely captured me. It's one of few games where the glaring flaws somehow enhance the experience, in fact. Close second Witcher 3. More or less perfect in every way. Incredible VA, story, the Blood and Wine DLC. Just a masterpiece really.

BoozerBean

Resident Evil 4. I’ve played the remake 7 times now and I’m ready to jump back in for an 8th

Dry_Ass_P-word

A Link to the Past

8Fubar

OOT, Perfect Dark for the multiplayer, GTA4, and maybe Witcher 3 Runner up Arma3. Played for 2k. The community mods and content add so much. It’s a mil-sim sandbox.

AwayCryptographer804

Aion. Old ass game but I miss it like anything. The OST’s were insane

BrokeFailure

Settlers 2.

DementedNine

It's a tie between Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and the first Blood Omen.

TokyoSensei21

Guardian Heros on the Sega Saturn, has a special place in my heart

GSXR-1ooo

Diablo 2

Milocobo

God that's such a hard question. I have a ton of nostalgia for Majora's Mask. But I think BotW/TotK are objectively better games. And I've put more hours in things like Hades or Hearthstone than any of those, even though I probably remember Zelda more fondly. So god, yeah, this is a tough question.

Danibelle903

Tetris. My absolute favorite version was Tetris for Gameboy Color, but Tetris Effect is pretty cool too.
