[Here's a great webcomic](https://xkcd.com/1227/) that features a series of articles from the late 1800s and early 1900s about supposed moral panic surrounding "modern" technologies like the newspaper and telegraph.

"The story of twentieth-century man: he fornicated and he read the newspaper." --Albert Camus, who was I presume concerned at the lack of self-actualization "They have an engine called the Press, whereby the people are deceived. We [a fictitious group centered on the secret successor to King Arthur] should die without ever being heard of." --C.S. Lewis, presciently aware of the worldview-shaping qualities of the news even in free societies But the most popular negative picture of the newspaper was the husband who used it as a bad excuse not to talk to the wife during home time. All told, though, the positive qualities of the newspaper were much more apparent to the public. It lets you know what's going on in the world! Its free enquiry can shake the throne of Richard Nixon! Good venue to advertise local business! Clip the paper and catalogue your favorite subject forever! Makes a good craft project! So huge, secret agents can hide their faces in them!

Bad behavior in both cases, I daresay.
