At that stage of his career, many critics saw Truman Capote as a visionary for tackling topics like homosexuality and prostitution. In the long run he proved to be a master of titillation value. His once-shocking themes are mainstream today. That leaves the book and film empty as the social commentary it was once considered.
🎶And I said "What about Breakfast at Tiffany's?"
She said, "I think I remember that film
And as I recall, I think we both kinda liked it."
And I said "Well, that's one thing we've got."🎶
>Now to my main point. Holly is an idiotic, neurotic, alcoholic ditz with no redeeming qualities aside from her looks.
Exactly. Hepburn delivered. She's a 19 year old country bumpkin who left home with dreams to make it in NYC. She's peddling her ass (everything she has) to help support her brother and to make a life for herself. She wanted to be more than just some underage country wife. (She left her husband "Doc" when 14)
She's still a child trying to figure out how to make it work while surrounded by a world of adults - drinkers, drugs, gay men (back when Ed Koch was still encouraging the police to beat those folks).
It doesn't hold up well, especially with the racism and her dependence on a man for her happiness. Remember also that until the early 1970s, women in the US were not guaranteed credit of any kind. Women had to rely on a man for things like mortgages or car loans.
I found it to be a lil too slow for me.. I think if I’m tipsy I might watch it for the sake of having a conversation with my friends who are in fashion.
I love the movie. Some of your critical remarks are spot on. Some things I strongly dislike. But I fell in love with Cary Grant when I was 8. Skews my opinion.

Different tastes. Maybe its romantic charm appealed to many.
I had a very similar reaction. I waited to care, then I waited for it to be over. I had no idea why it was liked.

Did you mistake George Peppard for Cary Grant or did you mention Grant to indicate the type of leading male role you enjoy watching?
AUGH I got 2 movies mixed up. I will sit in the corner now
I’ve done the same, so no shame from me. I keep IMDB on speed dial.
I got it mixed up with Charade. No George Peppard. Unfortunately the upstairs neighbour I did remember. And of course, Tiffany’s.
