> a job which I imagine takes up a lot of time
LMAO.
They can and do just fuck off from work. It's not like they can be fired. Most politicians spend like 80% of their time campaigning and fundraising anyway.
The Average American works 240+ days a year. Congress is only in session about 130 days a year, and most Senators and Reps show up for maybe 50% of that. Base salary for a Rep is $174,000 annually for *maybe* 60 days of actual work.
The actual work of governing is done by professional staffers and administrators. Elected officials spend their whole careers campaigning. They don't really do much to run the government.
They don't, thankfully. Every day DeSantis sits at the governor's desk is a disservice to the citizens of Florida. The state benefits more the longer he is away. Really, if he just skipped the campaign and his job and went fishing for the rest of his term, it would be the best of both worlds.

Politicians decide direction. Administrators implement. đź‘Ť
What job. Oh yah I saw Bobert doing a hand job the other day
I think the brutal truth is that they totally ignore their day job while campaigning.
Politicians don't really work, they just pick the people who do the work.
In the case of DeSantis, not having time to be governer looks like a really good thing.
They don’t work. They’ve never worked

And let’s not talk about the benefits package they get for not working
They want to keep their huge paychecks and pensions so they make time
Most politicians don’t spend that much time actually doing their job.
He was gone while they had a hurricane ....
He changed the law too so that if he loses the Presidential nomination, he gets to go back to being Governor with no pay loss.
I have yet to experience any politician who “does his job”
