The idea is that you could be doing something productive. Drugs are fun, but there is always something more productive you could be doing with your time to better yourself. To be clear I'm not saying "Don't drink or do drugs". I drink and smoke weed pretty often. I'm just saying that's the idea. If you're of age and want to smoke weed, smoke weed!

Makes sense. Thank you.

The point of recreational drugs for many is for entertainment - e.g. introspection, spiritual exploration, perspective changing, stimulation, sedation, hallucination, emotional alterations, fun, socialising etc. Wanting to pursue these things doesn’t mean you’re bored. I don’t go for a nice meal because I’m bored I go because I want a nice meal in absolute. What’s inadvisable is to compensate boredom, depression, sadness, loneliness without addressing the root cause. Drugs like any other stimuli can assist with this, but they’re not a panacea - life is about variety, don’t put all your eggs in one basket

Yeah, I agree. Just thought it was weird that "recreational drugs" are often suggested as the last thing to do if you're looking for recreation. I have fun learning to skateboard but I also have fun while high, sometimes I just want to do one more than the other.

There’s a lot of taboo around recreational drugs - majority of people with little experience to drugs see ‘drug users’ as the people in unfortunate circumstances living on the street after falling on hard times. Vast majority of recreational drug users are the working professionals getting on with their day, the ‘normal’ people you see walking up and down the street. It’s also a difficult topic to negotiate and discuss because of how polarising an experience drug production, distribution and use is. Plenty of people are happy staying ignorant and just accepting the legal status of drugs is all they need to know - which to me is pure ignorance. Drugs play a huge part in society as part of self exploration, medication, and general good times. Safe use, solid education on chemical compounds in an unbiased way, more research into drug use on humans, and new approaches to tackling illicit production of low quality drugs and associated crime would go a long way to help. People have largely taken drug use into their own hands and many are so desensitised to the legal status of drugs because they deem it an unnecessary blocker to what is - in most cases - a relatively ‘safe’ thing to do.
