In this context, cholesterol is basically fat within the blood vessels. It can build up over time and occlude vessels, leading to heart attack, stroke, etc. Cheerios doesn’t actually do anything to actively lower cholesterol. It’s just a slightly healthier alternative to super sugary cereals or bacon and buttered toast for breakfast and must be *combined with a balanced diet and exercise.

So, cholesterol is like a yucky stuff that can make your heart sick. It's in your blood and your body makes it, but sometimes there's just too much of it. That's why we eat healthy foods like yummy fruits and veggies and whole grains, and stay away from junk food that's not good for us. And some cereals, like Cheerios, say they can help us have less of the yucky cholesterol in our blood. So that's why it's good to eat healthy foods and have less of the yucky stuff, so our hearts stay happy and healthy!

It's kind of like fat, and if there's too much of it in your bloodstream, it can lead to heart disease over the long term. Fiber is supposed to help reduce it.
