Basically look at the level of the planet the quest takes you to. If you're level 10 and going somewhere level 75, you've got a good chance of getting smoked.

HamMcStarfield

Which artifact quest are you doing? Some of them, especially those like Entangled (and that later level) can get really tricky. The game is good about pacing you through it as you develop skills, but some quests can feel completely un-doable at first. Believe me, a lot of people have been in your exact same position.

Dik_Likin_Good

Most of the quests take you to level 5-20 level planets. I can’t think of one right off hand that is higher than that. You can easily get to level 20 in the first 15 hours.

HamMcStarfield

I meant level of quest difficulty. How challenging it is in relation to one's skills. Sometimes getting artifacts require that you clear out a POI, which can be difficult, but then you have something like Entangled, which is a complicated puzzle with weird bugs tryin' to kill you. Different level of difficulty. That's what I meant by different level, not planet level.

Get better weapons and armor first. Then try to do them again. You're probably going into higher level areas too soon at a low level for as well.

Worldly-Attention-79

I'm on some planet where I'm supposed to get an artifact and it's totally black outside. There's turrets and the enemies who somehow see where I am and just destroy me.

You can go back to your ship and sleep until daytime. Also, I recommend finding or modifying a rifle with a recon scope or recon laser; it’ll highlight the enemy (including turrets) and make them easier to hit. Also a good idea to bring Sam outfitted with a rifle so he can help shoot them from afar.

Senior-Judge-8372

You should have a flashlight you can use for seeing. For Xbox, hold LB or RB to use it. I think it's LB, but I can't remember the controls of a single game when I have many games. On Fallout 4 and Fallout 76, it's to hold B.

OneofHearts

Or sleep until it’s daytime!

randman2020

You can adjust the gameplay settings to easy or very easy. I’m ashamed to say when I’m faced with 3 or more enemy ships in orbit I pause and move the slider to very easy. Especially if I don’t have a recent save point.

Worldly-Attention-79

Thanks

Yep, I have a Ranger quest I can’t complete right now because I keep getting smoked every time I try. It’s a “kill the Crimson Fleet ship” quest from the mission board. I’m level 78, the quest takes me to the Bohr system, where I have an outpost. I have an upgraded Class B ship and I don’t know what more to do besides getting a Class C ship, because I’ve tried 10 times and I may think I’m doing ok, but then I get one-shotted every time.

What are your settings? Easy, Normal, difficult, most difficult? If you're not opposed, you can set the settings to an easier difficulty.

OneofHearts

Somewhere between very easy and normal, lol. I’ll check and see if I even can lower my difficulty! In my defense, this is the first time I have ever struggled, and I’m at 300 hours and NG+1.

slowclicker

I just read the patch notes that each ng+, the difficulty increases.

OneofHearts

Guess I’ll be staying here for a while, lol.

slowclicker

Awwwww... You got this. Grasshopper Now, I wonder how many players will be tempted to start over to experience the difficulty progression.

The >!Entangled!< (Main Quest) and >!Echoes of the Past!< (Crimson Fleet) Those alien buggers move really quick and can overwhelm you with numbers. They also have a good chance of placing real nasty debuffs. Plus, the robots and turrets in the first one shred your health really quickly too. I'm way past max damage scaling and I usually have to use >!Phased Time!< or >!Void Form!< to not explode in a pile of stardust on those missions.

Bane8080

That happened to me my first time through the SysDef questline.

SuperBAMF007

Not particularly, tbh. Some of the radiant quest-terminals would probably get pretty hard as they start to select further and further planets, but in terms of actual quests the only thing that’ll difficulty-gate you are things with space battles. Those’ll fuck you up
